  • To keep goooing* ...

  • I adore this song. It's amazing. I've got goooing be strong! Must be so determined and push myself on!! Gah, I feel like such a loser putting the lyrics.

  • It sucks that this song was played only once on opening night of the Somewhere On Tour. This song rocks. Up The Irons!!!

  • Not a fan of the lyrics in this, but it's still a fantastic song. :)

  • perhaps my favorite iron maiden song

    the outro is great!

  • the end part is awesome

  • my garage band pulled this song off damn good, back in the day.

  • sounds like someone was sitting at the back of the venue recording this on a taperecorder witch is why its awesome

  • Going to see Maiden live for the first time tomorrow night at Nottingham here in the UK. Really looking forward to seeing them at last! :)

  • @LEK7686 fuck you! english asshole! faggot!

  • @DOitHAAAARD That was a bit un-called for now wasn't it? Go back to the hole you crawled out of, troll.

  • @DOitHAAAARD iron maiden are english DUMFUCK!

  • @DOitHAAAARD

WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU DUDE?

  • Highly underrated song.

  • Lovely song , pity you recorded it in the jacks out side the band hall! Muppet

  • Is there a specific reason why Somewhere In Time is the "forgotten" album? It seems like a huge marker for them creatively. Sea Of Madness and Caught Somewhere In Time were vicious tracks. Adrian really proved himself as a lyricist as well.

  • @bdogg38128 It's more than likely because both the Somewhere In Time & Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son albums were the short lived "experimental" era. As after these 2 albums, Steve Harris wanted and changed the band's sound in 1990 to a more "back to basics" theme. The Seventh Son album was more commercially sucessful than Somewhere In Time too. Bruce has stated before as well that he hates singing Caught Somewhere In Time :(

  • I forgot to add as well that it's been noted that Bruce was never happy with the production & the synths featured on the Somewhere In Time album :(

  • @LEK7686 Oh! Man! Could you please get me where is that stated? That's just one of the saddest news I ever heard.

  • @bdogg38128 I think somewhere in time is the greatest album of all fucking time

  • @AsDayBurnsNight aww yeeah!

  • Epic song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • it sucks that iron maiden can't play every song they have when they play live.

  • @heavymetal7080 ummm that would be like a 12 hour concert

  • Oh my fucking god, this is amazing, one of the best and most underrated Maiden´s songs, don´t realy know why they don´t or didn´t played this masterpiece more times, but it would be awesome to see them performing it just once¡¡¡.

Thanks for sharing this, this is funcking heavy metal ando fuck the rest ¡¡¡¡

  • Oh my fucking god, this is amazing, one of the best and most underrated Maide´s songs, don´t realy know why they don´t or didn´t played this masterpiece more times, but it would be awesome to see them performing it just once¡¡¡.

  • Oh fuck what a masterpiece, this album is really classic, too bad they didn't play this song in this tour again or in somewhere back in time tour. I have to thank you mate for uploading this video.

  • @t4sos1234 Your welcome! From what I have gathered though, they only played this song for the first 2 gigs of the tour and this is the only show that was recorded where the song is played! :(

  • @LEK7686 My mistake actually, this song was only infact played live once - at this show. Therefore, this is the only live version of this song playing by Maiden themselves in existance!

  • why this song is not popular as aces high or the trooper? this is fucking great song! up the irons!!!

  • fuckin' Maiden man...

  • This is definitely one of the songs I missed in the Somewhere Back in Time World Tour, alone with Alexander the great, Déjà Vu and Infinite Dreams.

Perhaps those omissions were for the good, because after seeing a concert like that I don't see the point of going to see ANY other show by ANY other band!!

I hope however that they change their live repertoire from time to time replacing a few "live classics" (eg.: The Evil That Men Do, Iron Maiden, etc.) with some of these lost jewels.

  • @cristianfcao I would love for Maiden to play more songs from the Somewhere In Time album on their tours, but sadly it looks unlikely as the Somewhere In Time album is considered Maiden's "Forgotten" album from their 80's era as they only really play Heaven Can Wait mostly from that album and then on some tours Wasted years too :(

  • I know this song is awesome (one of the best duel guitar melodies) but playing it live it's killful! Not only for the guitars, but for the whole band! That's why I think they thrown it away from the songlist.

  • @BartSmith85 I think it's probably because this bootleg recording is not the best compared to others out there, that lets down this live version. I think if they kept this song on the setlist, at least throughout the European leg of the tour then we would of much appreciated this song more as it would of appeared on much better recorded bootlegs i.e. the Bristol Colston Hall show & the Sheffield shows. Search on YouTube for the Sheffield 1986 show then you will see how good the recording is.

  • @LEK7686 I've got both Sheffield shows on dvd, from 1st gen copies & only the first show was great. On the second Bruce has throat problems so his singing is far from good. Chicago '87, Paris '86 & Gothenburg '86 were also great. It's not the recording, but the song. That's why I think they didn't play it more. They have also gave up Sea Of Madness after the European leg, as it was also exhausting, but was probably more popular at the time (?). PS: I've got to watch the movie of the same title!

  • @BartSmith85 Yeah I've seen a couple of the videos of the Sheffield 2nd night gig on here as well. Another couple of favourite gigs from the 86-87 tour was the Bristol & Leicester gigs. The Bristol show, the band played absolutely fantastic and I think the Bristol show is generally considered the best bootleg from that tour. The Leicester bootleg, the quality is excellent (also on par with the Sheffield 1st night show). The only let down with the Bristol gig is the slightly lower quality.

  • A good song, but Maiden played this song live and didn't play Alexander The Great or The Thin Line Between Love And Hate!? :/

  • The intro to this song is just a fucking masterpiece!

  • i think this is THE best maiden song ever

  • The atmosphere and song iself worth the opportuniyu to overcome difficulties!

  • UP THE IRONS from TEXAS!

  • UP THE IRONS fron Campinas/Brazil...Here we plays IRON MAIDEN with INFINITE DREAMS band...watch owr videos on youtube, please...magnozornchanel...thanks!!!!!

  • increible !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thats how my phone rings! UP THE IRONS!

  • @metalheart1987 Mine too!!! :)

  • @metalheart1987 Mine too! :) UP THE IRONS!!!

  • thanks a lot for this version, I remember steve harris saying in an interview in "Kerrang" magazine, that they had playing "the loneliness..." once on the 1986 tour, but they wern't happy so they dropped that off the set....it's really pity - they should try to play this now with the three guitarists

  • I` from Serbia and i`m proud they started they`re Somewhere in Time tour in Belgrade,i think it`s the only place they have played The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner!!!!!

    Up the IRONS from Serbia!!!!\m/

  • great maiden tune off somewhere in time....my fav maiden lp!!!!

  • Thanks for the post. So rare and awesome to share..

  • If only i were born earlier... I'd easily go to the show. :(((((((

  • @SegaMaiden i was 17-- my first iron maiden concert. in denver. vinny vincent invasion opened....they sucked. maiden's show was fantastic though.

  • Muchas gracias por publicarlo!!

  • Oh my Childhood...I´m crying like a kid now...

  • this is the best song from somewhere time..

  • @TheBarrett93 bruce doesnt like this song , he finds it very repetitive , i like it :)

  • i heard this is the only time they performed the song live.

  • A forgotten treasure.

    One of my faves

  • lucky people on this show. i'd go to the end of the world to hear this song live.

  • I believe they played this song live for a grand total of one time, back in 1986 in Belgrade. next show they skipped it and played Wrathchild instead...

  • One of my fav maiden songs ever , and they have played it once in their entire history ,why ?, it's amazing

  • I believe they only played this live once which is a complete shame, by far one of their best off SIT. Also another shame they played rime again instead of adding alexander. It's a good thing they didn't make a live album out of this, wasn't worth it even though the stage set is fucking amazing lol.

  • Awesome! To bad theres no video :(

  • My fave IRON MAIDEN SONG! WHOOAAAPPPOOOO WAHAA YIPEE

  • hey man...wtf was doing a grl to sing Alexander the great?..it was with members of Iron Maiden?!..I dont understand whats goin on...

  • beautifull song

  • this song was played in Belgrade, Serbia in `86

  • I dind't even THINK it was ever been played live... thanks a lor

  • My live whises are: To tame a land,Still life,Prodigal son,Deja vu,Only the Good die young,The Prophecy, Losfer words-Big orra, Flash of the blade, Distance Runner (or Caught SW in time),Infinite dreams, 7th son of, Nomad,Thin Line between love and hate, Out of the silent planet, Strange world, Sea of madness, Clansman, Out of the shadow, Paschendale and Blood brothers (for the end of the show)! ...ha ha too many to mention all..... by the way I follow maiden from 1985 and I saw them 8 times....

  • Comment removed

  • LEK7686 thanks for this big rarity. I read all comments and I'd like to say hello to some true Maiden fans: TheTrooper9169666, Bertrand50120, krakoniks and especialy to cvelbx who was there (Pionir, Belgrade, 1986)

  • best album, sound , picture,

and best epic song "alexander..." !!

  • Caught Somewhere In Time

    Stranger In A Strange Land

The Loneliness Of The Long Distance Runner

    Sea of Madness

    Alexander the Great (356-323 B.C.)

Why this songs aren't recorded live? I mean Heaven Can Wait & Wasted Years are awesome but those ones are awesome too! Somwhere in time! What an awesome album! We want them live!!!!!!!!!

  • ive heard all of them live?

  • Yeah I said "recorded" live, like Rock in Rio etc. I'm in Greece and they come here few times... And one motherfucker stole Adrians guitar! I hope they will come again in Greece. Anyway...

  • makari rr file... twra na doume mpas kai er8oun sto rockwave....

  • @Kaste11 Don't forget Deja Vu! Imo the best song from somewhere in time \m/

  • @Kaste11 you wont have them buddy, yeah they r very cool but too progressive for their public expectations.. no show class songs

  • @Kaste11 stranger in a strange land already has a live video up on youtube bro

  • @Kaste11 and Deja Vu

  • @Kaste11 Caught Somewhere In Time,Stranger In A Strange Land and Sea of Madness were recorded live, you can find them here on youtube. Most of them were played in Paris 1987...

    Up the IRONS!!!!\m/

  • @Kaste11 bingo !

  • @Kaste11 And don't forget the song Déjà Vu!

  • anyone knows who plays each solo?

  • wish they played Alexander the Great live, that would be AWSOME!!!!!!!!

  • I much prefer Sea of Madness (its a masterpiece), but this is good too.

  • A fine Adrian Smith song.

  • wow they did it live!!!!!!! great

  • Wow what a pleasure to hear this awesome song live! I think it's time for an online petition to get Maiden to play this one and a few other rarities on their next tour.

They should just do a medley of all the regular songs and this way safe some time for songs that rarely or never get played life. Maybe they should even let the fans decide a few songs for the set like for the reunion in 1999. I bet quite a few rarely played songs would make it on the set list...

  • seriously, maiden needs to drop songs like the trooper, run to the hills, the number of the beast and MAYBE fear of the dark and replace it with songs from this album and seventh son. maybe even flash of the blade (powerslave) if we get lucky. :D

next tour should be called, "songs never yet played live" where they play alexander, flash of the blade, etc.

  • This song is awesome, but they shouldn't drop songs like run to the hills and number of the beast and such, because they're the fucking classics!

  • I agree...the problem is, Dickinson's vocals are a bit shot. There is no shame. He was insane for SO many years.

  • bruce sounds better now than he did twenty years ago. . .

  • What the hell are YOU listening to?

You can't even hear Dickinson on some of the high parts. He sounds like he's constipated or something. There is NO shame. He's been doing it EVERY night for a LONG time. Don't get me wrong, he still sings well....

But honestly....he's passed his prime. HE would tell you that too.

  • he's much more consistent when he sings live than he was back in the day. and his tone is much richer. i'm surprised; every time i watch a youtube video with bruce in it, everyone comments on how much they like him better now than before.

i understand why you think he was better in the day, but it's really just preference. i found his younger voice, although amazing and better than pretty much anyone else, a bit out of control. he has much better control now.

  • to be fair, the male voice dosnt actually reach its prime until the age of 50.....

  • Gracias por el video.....up the irons

  • why do they never play this live apart from this one time?

it's one of the best maiden tracks

  • Thanks for posting this! WOW, first time i've ever heard a live version of this... I'm glad you posted such a rare bootleg

  • Your welcome :)

  • @NickoMcbrainRules its the only time they ever played this live, but i can't see why, its a brilliant song

  • i hope hear it some day!!! its the best song ever created!!! (:

  • damn , you can tell it was tight !!! what a fucking shame man

  • it sucks. this is such a better song than sea of madness. i love this song. one of my all time favorites

  • hmmm, i see no video.

  • As described this is an Audio only video. There is no proper video footage of this show unfortunately, only a bootleg audio of the show.

  • Well what the hell do you expect?? its from a bootleg! Not exactly a mastered release is it? Go read up on what Bootlegs are before posting stupid comments.

  • Not a stupid comment, just a fact. Don't get so butt-hurt.

  • Not really a fact is it? Why would I want to to take this video down?? 32,000+ video views from Maiden fans and still growing, I wanted to share a piece of rare Iron Maiden history, if you do not like it (well you seem the only moron who doesnt) then you know where to close the browser window.

  • @LEK7686 Don't take it down! I love that it is up here; this song is very special to me. Very close to my heart, a source of strength and inspiration when I'm working out or just when I've got my own "long distance running" to do in life.

And it is just a beautiful, awesome, powerful song from the greatest rock band of them all. I've wanted to hear it live for so long. Thank you.

  • IMO, Maiden is the greatest rock band of all time. But, not everyone has to agree with me. There are many great rock bands. In my book, Maiden is the greatest. Powerful, inspiring, philosophical...they have songs that are as uplifting as Stan Bush or Survivor, songs that are dark and melancholy, songs that are intense and aggressive...songs that search deep into the relation with man his Creator, religious songs, love songs, historical songs...sometimes songs weave all of that together into one.

  • kforcer - Don't worry I'm not taking this down :)

  • @kforcer I love this song, too. In fact, I kind of consider it the most sorely underrated song of theirs, and the way it exudes such ferocious determination really fires me up in a similar manner as it does you.

  • lets hear your world output album, i bet you suck. in this day and age - irons gonna kick your ass all over back and forth, on and on. so nag to your mirror and in your head.

  • Upload the whole gig, if you can

  • please please please play this song live...i dont care where you play it...i will find it

  • this whole album kicks fuckin ass

  • Wanna hear this song again : D Come on Maiden, play it! Or some other good songs, drop Run to the Hills, 666 and Th Trooper out!

    UP THE IRONS!

  • Exactly as you said. I would prefer pretty much anything from Somewhere in Time and 7th Son of a 7th Son (except the ones they already play, Heaven can wait and Can I play with madness which are the weakest songs ine each album imo) over Run to the hills, Number of the beast or Trooper any day of the week.

  • I totally agree i would much prefer to hear this song and many others from this album and others that havent made it into the setlist since them days, and gladly trade them in for the ones that are expected to be played each show.

  • i never thought this song was recorded live..

    fucking great!!

  • where did you find this at?

  • I've got the whole show on bootleg.

  • Amazing! One of the rarest stuff all around the internets!Thank you very much for uploading LEK.

  • Your Welcome :)

  • Nearly 25,000 video views in just over a year of this video! I'd like to thank everyone for there viewing contributiion on here & making sure that this very rare piece of live Iron Maiden history is kept alive! Keep viewing, commenting & rating Thanks all!

  • OH MY GOD!!!!

I want to see this live!!!! THIS SONG IT'S FUCKING AWESOME!!!!

  • Caught Somewhere In Time, The Loneliness, Stranger in The Stranger Land, Deja Vu and lastly Alexander The Great. Why they didnt play all this song anymore???

  • One of the greatest metal songs ..... ever.

  • true!

  • Yeah, I wonder too why they don`t play this song more often! Best track of album "Somewhere in Time". They could`ve played more songs from SIT and SSOASS albums like this one, De Ja Vu, CSIT, Only the Good Die Young, Infinite Dreams.Or even occassionally in tours.

  • At the time the Band did not think it would be well receivd by the fans. But in more recent years the songs from the Somewhere In Time album (including this song) have became so much more popular with the fans & its still a shame that Maiden don't play these songs today.

  • I love this song and espiecially Deja Vu, way more than Wated Years!

  • and alexander the great. love that track.

  • For me, the best song of Iron Maiden , music and lyrics.

Why they didn't played this song during all the "Somewhere on tour '86"? My God, I wanted to saw it on live at Bercy, but no... it wasn't on the set-list!

  • Too bad they don't play this song more..it kicks ass and pumps me up for races..

  • Dude, awesome! Someone else who likes running. Personally I use this song commonly for the finish; I don't know why, but the second verse, the one after the solo, just drives me to run as fast as I can and beat anyone in my immediate area.

Now, I'M pumped for running; jeez. Up the irons, guys!

  • thanks!!!

  • Your welcome :)

  • This is the best song ever !!!! of iRON MAIDEN

    UP THE IRONS !!!

  • For sure in my top 10 Maiden Songs

  • It was in Belgrade, Serbia, in 1986...I was there...beautiful memories :)

  • what a shame for maiden!

this is easily one of my favorite maiden's songs!

  • OK,I have information that Maidens played this song only in Belgrade 85,or 86,if anyone has info that this is not true, pls reply to me,but only if you are 100 percent sure...

  • i think that this song is fuckin awesome. to tell the truth i think all their songs are awesome. UP THE FUCKIN IRONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • bruce's voice reaches the limit in this song

  • Just to be Technical about this awesome song...

The song was dropped after a few gigs and was then replaced by 'Sea Of Madness' and when 'Sea Of Madness' came in this setlist, Maiden replaced it later with 'Where Eagles Dare'

  • Sea of Madness still remained in the setlist throughout the tour even after Where Eagles Dare came into the Setlist, Sea Of Madness was the 3rd song on the setlist for the "Somewhere On Tour 86-87" and Where Eagles Dare was the first song for the second part of the shows on the tour.

  • bastards! why did they dropped it??

one of maiden's best in my opinion..

  • They said it didn't flow with the rest of the songs on the setlist. Something like that.

  • in this concert, maiden plays deja vu?

  • They never played that song live.

  • FUCK, Deja Vu is my favorite Maiden song!!

  • no actually theyve never played deja vu live...that song fuckin rulz

  • Im sure they did play deja vu, I was there, on one of the Newcastle dates back in '86 It wasnt part if the set list and I dont know why they changed it, I only remember the song coz I bought the album shortly after. Sadly I cant prove it either way...theres no video footage of either Newcastle gig :-(

  • They never did play it unfortunately RoaryUK, I've listened to the bootleg of the Newcastle shows and sadly is does not have Deja Vu, You might be mistaken for the guitar solo by Dave Murray & Adrian Smith "Walking In The Air"?

  • Ahhh ok fair enough... I was at the 1st Newcastle date BTW and would love to get hold of anything from that. Hope thats the gig you mean LEK7686!!!

  • I didn´t know that they played this song ever live. One of the best songs of that album. But unlikely they never played Alexander the great. The somewhere back in time tour would have been the chance to do that, but who knows why they didn´t.

  • i´m almost sure they played this song live only once.

i thought i would never listen to that version.

    thank you very much.

  • Your Welcome, Yes it was only played once sadly :(

  • OH MY GOD. where did u found this song live? first time i hear it live. do u have all the concert? its AWESOME

  • Yes i've got the whole concert - though this song is the best part of the concert.
