@EasyAccessBeauty Funny you ask! Yes, this has happened to me before. I usually try to really find out what the client wants/needs beforehand to avoid this problem. I had a big issue one time for an event that I had to take over bc the hired artist couldn't make it and they refused to pay me. Let's just say it got ugly for a second and a week later I had a big check! If they refuse still, you wipe off half the makeup and/or stop and leave without finishing. Sounds harsh, but you have to do it.

I'm lucky to have been able to land a job at the clinique counter. Always wanted to work at a cosmetics counter and I am definitely getting experience with working on customers. I am hoping that I am going in the right direction. I want to be able to go back to school though and get a degree that compliments what I am wanting to do...which is makeup. And if I want to change someday I need to get something that is versatile. Not that I don't want to do makeup but always want to have a back up.

this was so helpful... i just recently started getting into makeup and i love it... I would love to make a career of it, like u said in ur 1st video, who wouldnt love to do something they love and get paid for it? I just feel very self conscious about doing make up on other people, because everyone has there own taste and they might not like what i like or how i do there make up. any suggestions on how to get over that?

Makeup is part skill, and part confidence. If you are confident and proud of your work, your clients will appreciate what you do. Also, communicating with your clients is important. Get a clear understanding of what they want. Remember to practice whenever you can. With more practice, you will become more confident and your doubts will subside!

I am not sure what the state law is for makeup in California, you would have to check with the state office of professional and occupational licensing, since the laws do differ from state to state. You are required to have a license when you work doing hair, skin care procedures, brows, and nails. Just doing makeup applications alone in many states does not require a license, but I recommend that you check, just to be safe!

Yes, its just a certificate of completion that says that I took the course. In contrast, if you go to cosmetology school for example, you get a license. I basically got a piece of paper! :-)
