i used to drive a 95 toyota pickup with a 22r in it on 35's.. i always thought it still had all the power to go anywhere, but then i took that out and dropped a chev 350 under the hood. Its really no comparison.. the 22r or 22re both suck dick with anything over 31 inch tires.
@malecki1887 I was talking about the gears in the axles, when you put tires bigger than 33's on a Toyota with a 22R, it will have no power unless you lower the gearing then its good as new
@wheeler8801 Should of said Diff gears, or 3rds, or something along those lines, makes it a little more clear. My bad. I know all about changing diff gears and such, 35s no turn on 3.70s haha i went up to 4.56's but prolly shoulda went 4.88 but i plan on a dual case and a V8 swap so not to worried about it.
whats your MPG like? does that 4 cylinder engine having a hard time pushin those 35's? i'm thinkin about 35's on a yota but i dont know if they are just to HP robbing to that 4 cyl
its not the hp you need to worry about its the torque. throw some gears in it man. the biggest yota i had was on 33's and it had no issues whatsoever and believe it or not i could still run 70 mph down the interstate and knock down 20-25mpg i dont imagine there is much difference in 2" plus the newer the yota the better the torque
@jleemer get some 4:88 gears out of a later model 4 runner of the same era with a 3.0 auto with 31's or if you have the money get it geared to 5.29's and throw a locker out back!!!! id rather have stock gears and 31's locked then 35's open diff. ill never go back to open diff.

@thehuntman47 ever heard of changing the gearing?

@wheeler8801 Ever hear of hill climbing? Not supposed to change gears with a stick, kills all momentum no matter how good of a shiftier you are.

@overdosed51 my 93 on 33's does it no problem but def a loss in power and mpg's before gears

hxcmexi Toyota never put the 20r or 22r engine in an MR2 The fast mr2 had the 3sgte engine. Not the R series

Best engine Toyota ever made!!
Perfect for the little MR2s back in the day.

(peenywise) not exactly right, but better than makin it a low-rider! Way to get the power out of it though

if your going with 35's then get it geared or your going to get about 15-20 mpg thats what i get with stock 4:10 ratio and 35's
