  • amazing !!

  • @bigstevecw Thanks.

  • Cool list. I enjoyed DK2 as well, it certainly divided fans but there were some awesome moments in it that really had an impact on me.

  • @davidgrantlloyd In spite of the lousy artwork I really liked the satire on media and war on terror.

  • IMHO, Batman: The Dark Knight Strikes Again is one of the worst comic books in the history of ever.

  • @supermark420 Matter of opinion.

  • @DrGull1888 I did not mean to sound upset. I merely wanted to state my opinion, hence "IMHO" (or "In My Humble Opinion"). I've written a review on it. It's seething, and I'm sure you won't agree with it, but hopefully you'll find it entertaining.

    Also, great soundtrack.

  • @supermark420 Oh, yeah IMHO. Sorry, I'm not so accustomed to internet abbreviations. The only things I know is lol and rofl.

Where can I find your review?

  • Ì read Give me Liberty a few months ago...i didn´t like it and i don´t know why, perhaps i should read it again jejej...everybody hates DK2, i haven´t read it yet so i can´t say anything about it...so im going to read it, i wanna see why everybody hates it.

Cheers from Argentina! (excuse me if my english is terrible :) )

    Great video!

  • @inchains02 No excuses necessary. I found Give me Liberty pretty prophetic Exaggerated but prophetic. At the moment we can witness the issues shown in that series like destruction of the environment, unemployment and social distress, firms dictating politics and a political disintegration of the US.

Many fan were disappointed by the weak artwork of DK2 and the book being more a Justice League comic than a Batman story. But I liked the satire on the media and the war on terror

  • @inchains02 All Star Batman and Robin is much muh worse than DK2. Fortunately that pile of crap didn't make this list.

  • Ì read Give me Liberty a few months ago...i didn´t like it and i don´t know why, perhaps i should read it again jejej...every hates DK2, i haven´t read it yet so i can´t say anything about it...so im going to read it, i wanna see why every hates it.

    Great video!

  • u put dk2 there?

    have u no shame?

    it's a blister on batman s reputation

yes i know this is opinion based, but this is my opinion as well, and i think a good bulk of fan's would agree

  • @redrasegarden Shame for what? Because I like a comic some hysteric fanboys are disappointed about since they expected s.th. as dark and gritty as Dark Knight Returns? Granted it's inferior to the original and the artwork is a bit lazy but you still have a good satire on politics and media, decent action and a dramatic "superheroes must save the world" story. It was and still is a rollercoaster of a comic..

  • @DrGull1888 like i said, your opinion. and mine r different, please forgive the outburst, i just now a days find it bad

  • The Big Fat Kill is a work of genuis.

  • I enjoyed year one more than DK2

  • @hogy33 Sorry, I didn't but to each his own.

  • @DrGull1888 oh i wasn't saying you should have put it higher, it's your list, i was just saying :)

  • @hogy33 Me too. ;)

  • cool list,great books :)

  • what about robocop vs terminator???

  • @MrNintendoo64 Not read yet and out of print.

  • 1.) The Dark Knight Returns

    2.) The Hard Goodbye

    3.) That Yellow Bastard

    4.) Hell and Back

    5.) 300

    6.) Batman: Year One

7.) A Dame to Kill For

8.) The Dark Knight Strikes Again

    9.) The Big Fat Kill

    10.) Ronin

  • @Salonci Pretty "Sin City-heavy".

  • Sin City is his masterpiece. If I counted the books all as one Sin City would be #1

  • Man you have to be out of your mind if you put DK2...the art sucks..so the script...really a shame..a big stain in Millers Career

  • Good list. I consider Born Again to be the best comicbook story I have ever read - period. Mazzuchelli's art is wonderful in it. I read it when it originally came out, so had to wait a month between issues. I like Miller's Daredevil, DK Returns, Ronin, etc, but Sin City is too violent for me. Around this time his art style also changed to drawing heroes with large, club-like hands and a looser ink line (not like Janson used to do). I do like the B&W chiaroscuro look of Sin City but not stories.

  • @da5idnz Hehe, I read Born Again the first time during the late 1980ies. It was a German paperback in which they also put some namor stories. The paper size of the German issue was unlike the American issue half as big and paperquality wasn't good either.

Mazzuchelli's artwork is nice and gritty. I also like his artwork in Batman Year One and I even have some Star Wars and Indiana Jones Comics drawn by him.

  • "Jim Cooper, Chuck Youngblood,"

    "More dead men."

"They were all alive until they met you, Frank."

  • Hello me again. I don't suppose that you have a top ten Will Eisiner List? I just read "A Contract With God" and was wandering if you had any suggestions for me to read. Still love your count downs by the way and your cool facts about random stuff like "The History of Gum" vid.

    Interium Blancum

  • @InteriumBlancum80884 Thanks a lot for your compliments. I haven't read that much Eisner so far. I read "A Contract with God", "Invisible People" and "Dropsie Avenue: The Neighborhood". All very well written. I like Eisner's combination of caricatured character design with sad, socio-critical stories. Concerning the Spirit, I only read the realy nice Batman/The Spirit crossover by Jeph Loeb.

    Yours sincerely,

    Sir William Withey Gull

    1st Baronet of Brook Street

  • in your list isn't there the spirit and watchmen!!!

  • @EverbestGames Droll!

  • in your list isn´t there the spirit!!!

  • @EverbestGames Thats because Miller NEVER wrote story with him.

  • @EverbestGames To be fair, Frank Miller's attempt at the Spirit was due to the fact he directed the film adaptation. Plus, lets face it, only Will Eisner can write about the Spirit with any gusto.

    Interium Blancum

  • I would change DK2 (which is garbage in my oppinion) with hardboiled. But great list!^^

  • @StubenhockerElite Yes, perhaps.Or perhaps not. When I made this video I hadn't read Hard Boiled.

Now, that I removed that deficiency, I''m not sure. I found the artwork by Darrow breathtaking. And the Android-Messiah thing which starts in the last part of the middle was nicely executed with an interesting end. But I still dunno. You have several connected pages with no words spoken but groaning and onomatopeia. And sometimes I was wondering what's going on. And thanks.

  • I guess I should have checked your channel out b4 asking my last question, lol!really good vid's BTW.I've always loved the song on this vid',it gives me chills everytime I hear it.

  • @socillizt4life I love this song, too. It's the perfect track for a showdown. First I wanted to use The Good, the Bad and the Ugly but I came to the conclusion that it would fit better to a Garth Ennis top 10 list.

  • What song is this? Could someone let me know, please/ thank you.

    Great list by the way:D

  • @InteriumBlancum80884 The soundtrack's name is "My Name is Nobody". In Italian it's "Il Mio Nome è Nessuno". The song's title is in Italian "Se Sei Qualcuno E' Colpa Mia". It's the track to the duel scene between Henry Fonda and Terence Hill. I lack the English title.

  • @DrGull1888

Wow, you actually know that other people knew about OUATITW. I knew it was on that soundtrack but didn't know its name.

    Thanks, Interium Blancum

  • @InteriumBlancum80884 No problem. But I'm not familiar with the abbreviation "OUATITW." And thanks for commenting.

  • And Batman beats Supermans ass !! " i WANT YOU.. TO REMEMBER, CLARK..IN ALL THE YEARS TO COME..IN YOUR PRIVATE MOMENTS..I WANT YOU TO REMEMBER..MY HAND..AT YOUR THROAT..I WANT YOU TO REMEMBER..THE ONE MAN WHO BEAT YOU.." !!! CLASSIC FRANK MILLER !

  • @kurt30001 never read d.k.r. but interested 2 know how the hell batman beat superman??? kryptonite???

  • Comment removed

  • @cordsman I'm sorry that I ruined Ronin for you but that picture isn't from the end it's from the first act and it doesn't tell anything about the end at all. I suggest you read the comic book anyhow.

  • Comment removed

  • @cordsman It's ok, dude. Except the books on my list I can recommend Hard Boiled which has outstanding art work. Robocop and Dark Knight strikes again are very disputed among fans so perhaps you can borrow it from a friend than buying it.

  • @DrGull1888 Sounds good. Have you, by chance, read 'Wanted' by Mark Millar?

  • @cordsman Yup, 4 weeks ago. Well to read, exciting, with a lot of black humor. Reminded me a little bit of "The Boys" by Garth Ennis without the sexual overkill. The only criticism would be that Millar concentrates on the main protagonist while a lot of other interesting characters remain fragmentary.

  • @DrGull1888 Great! I actually went to the store to pick 'Wanted' up but got 'Ronin' instead when I couldn't find 'Wnted'. But that will be my next pick! Thanks for the help, dude. Nice video

  • @cordsman You're welcome and check out my other videos.

  • @DrGull1888 Will do!

  • Do you have to read frank miller's earlier daredevil to read born again or just read born again?

  • @Prestige1994 Nope, you needn't to. Born Again can stand alone as a graphic novel.

  • @DrGull1888 thanks

  • @Prestige1994 No pro.

  • Sorry, I can't stand dysfunctional artwork... This stuff is pure junk, Miller never learned how to draw, how in the world he made it we'll never know.

  • what album is this song on?

  • @Prestige1994 The Best of Morricone

  • @DrGull1888 Thanks

  • 2:52 LOL this is sparta !!!!!!

  • Miller sucks.

Most of these comics here werent written by Miller by himself, Dark Knight Strikes Again was just stupid and poorly drawn, and need I bring up how he pissed all over The Spirit?

  • Strange, i went around Beemp3 for hours and every other site for musical mp3's included and I typed the same name with the same author you gave. It came out with a happier more... not the samurai oriental strumming mixed with a Quentin Terrintino type of vibe splashed with abit of Batmanny vide in the background. (Iunno, it sounded mysterious and you did have some batman comics on this list from Frank)

  • Well I see the author but the song Im getting sounds completely differnet. Can you please give the correct artist or music?

  • @Gjkl345 The soundtrack's name is "My Name is Nobody". In Italian it's "Il Mio Nome è Nessuno". The song's title is in Italian "Se Sei Qualcuno E' Colpa Mia". It's the track to the duel scene between Henry Fonda and Terence Hill. I lack the English title.

  • Can you please tell us the author of the music u used? All i'm getting are different songs.

  • where's all-star batman and robin god damn it lol

  • @carnage247mayhem I'm not sure if it was already published when I made this video.

  • @DrGull1888 really wow it's pretty much a frank miller book thats bad lol i just joking around lol

  • @carnage247mayhem No you are right. I received criticism for including DK2 and Robocop which aren't too good while I excluded Year One and Hard Boiled which are so treasured. Perhaps Frank got completely insane after entering the new millenium. That would explain the one or other bad comic.

  • Hey if they ever make a Martha Washington movie, you know you should play her is Jayda Pinkett, talk about typical hah

  • the original fm run on daredevil is not only his greatest work it is one of comics greatest works

  • a agree, DKR is his best work, and im my humble opinion the best and most influential story of batman ever.

DKR and Ronin are timeless masterpieces

  • Agreed.

  • I didn't like FM's Robocop. But, I his Robocop VS The Terminator was awesome. Check that one out.

Elektra: Assassin and Born Again, right on. But no Man Without Fear? It's just so good.

  • Haven't read Man without Fear yet. To be true I'm not so deep into Marvel comics. But Born Again was amazing. It's one of the first comics I read as a kid, besides Asterix and Mickey Mouse.

Thanks for the recommendations. I'll check them out.

  • oh wow, you must read Man Without Fear. I say it's just as good as Born Again. The best "year one" story around for DD.

  • Yes, why not. I always try to complete my Frank Miller collection. By the way, Robocop vs Terminator is out of print. A pity.

  • batman year 1 is ten times better than dk2

  • Sorry dude, but I found year 1 dull. Just another origin story in spite of the prizes the comic has won.

  • DK 2, should not be that high on the list. Well higher than Year One, that's for sure.

  • Hard Boiled should be there.

  • Yes, perhaps.Or perhaps not.

  • @DrGull1888 Hard Boiled is actually connected to the Martha Washington comics. The "Behemoth" super market is in there.

  • Yes, there is also this nightmare sequence where Nixon/Seltz wears a PAX uniform and Martha's hair. And you can see a PAX ad on the bus when Seltz chases this grandma.

  • @grendeljack Yeah, it should have been there.

  • @grendeljack Since you mentioned Hard Boiled I want to point out to you that hard Boiled is actually connected to the Martha Washington comics.

  • Thx for the videos and debate

  • My pleasure.

  • i'm reading -martha washington -give me liberty- and it is awesome

  • I really like the surgeon general.

  • Haw, haw. And "Donald Duck Finds Pirate Gold" isn't also on the list. Sorry to disappoint you.

  • He didn't write Watchmen

  • Nothing about Miller original run on Daredevil , it has some superb issues "Russian Roulette" , Elektra issues as well.. Ah you also forgot Elektra Lives Again. I believe Born Again is Franks best work, but his Batman works had more repeercussion because it is an iconic character. His stories in Daredevil are beter though.

  • I haven't been a huge Daredevil fan and collector whether it's written by Miller or Todd McFarlane or anybody else. What impresses me is the martyrdom of Daredevil in "Born Again". King Pin's plot is well-conceived and not too much over the top like other retaliation schemes. And you can really empathize with every stroke Matt has to suffer.

By the way thanks for not complaining that I haven't included Year One.

  • Aw, stupid me. I included Year One. I didn't include it in my Batman Top 10. So just forget the last sentence.

  • I knew Dark Knight Returns would be number one before I click the video lol, but it has reason to be it

I've went into the comic shop atleast 5 times looking for Born Again and they never have it:(

  • Yes, searching for a book out of print sucks. Even if you can get one you have to pay a furtune.

  • great picks. dark knight is one of my all time favorites. i also love martha washington. - what did you think of jim lee frank miller Allstar batman and robin- i loved it ! i know most people hated it but i thought it was really great !

  • I think Robin sucks. Can't they let him get killed by the Joker or someone?

  • Did they not do that in Death in the Family

  • Exactly.

  • I know you said not to be upset but... Hard Boiled? *Tear*

  • I haven't read it yet but the synopsis reads interesting.

At least you read the video description.

  • The Dark Knight Strikes Again? Really? Really?

  • Yes, so what? Miller wrote much worse comics.

  • When the atom is in the microscopic world in the petri-dish i really was enjoying it, but the rest of the comic was a bit of a mess - some of the ideals miller set up for batman in dark knight returns were seemingly without reason thrown out the window in DK2. Also, while i was sometimes with some of the ADD random ideas and forty million stories floating around towards the end, it definitely lacked focus. That's a shame because it had such potential after the ending of the dark knight returns

  • The story wasn't so bad in my opinion. I had to get used to the simple designs and drawings. I think another problem was that it had a simmilar story like Kingdom Come.

  • awsome list keep doing vids

  • Thanks. I've a scanner which doesn't function. But when I alter that, I'm gonna bury my viewers under comic vids. Muha ha ha ha.

  • aw my favorite comics is the twilight zone & it was his first comics he ever did special hints to collectors #83 i think im grabbing doubles ;D

  • They all started small.

  • ~▲~

▲ ▲ may the triforce be with you

  • utrum iubet

  • I´m not complaining or anything but i read Robocop and it was quite bad in my opinion. DK2 wasn´t as bad as most people says it was. I´m glad Born Again was included is my favorite superhero storyline (at least mainstream, i don´t consider Watchmen as mainstream but Watchmen is my #1) because i see that not many people consider it as one of his best.

  • I agree in 100% with DK2. Actually I read it twice a year. I think the problem with Robocop is, that it was released several years after the second movie and people just didn't care anymore.

  • DK2 should be taken off and I don't know how you could actually read Ronin and think it's not better than anything he has ever done.

  • I must confess that I'm a huge Superman and Batman fan and therefore I'm biased. But Ronin is good. Don't be upset it didn't make my number 1.

  • tough call for the number one spot this will keep me awake . sin city or dkr hmmm

  • I thought Frank Miller's robocop was a piece of crap. I felt ripped off after I read it.

Though Born Again is my all time favorite superhero story. I think it surpasses DKR in fact.

  • Oh yes, I heard about fans who were disappointed about Robocop. I think it had potential and I like bizarre scenes like the burning Elvis. Born again is indeed great. It was one of the first comics I bought as a kid, in German language of course. I couldn't believe how the author let the hero suffer. I, as a kid, couldn't believe something like this was possible. But I still prefer Batman, he has the most interesting rogues gallery.

  • Well my problem with DKR is it takes Ranian philosophies far too literal. Ranian as in Evil only Triumph if you do not fight back. While I agree with that, Miller often takes it to an unrealistic extent.

I like the first part where Batman was just struggling to do good in the World(much like Daredevil) but later he just beats a few people up and suddenly everything changes.

  • I think your point fits for all kinds of heroism, real or fictional. Why do we consider some deeds as heroic and people who do stuff as heroes? They and their doings serve us as inspiration
