This is one of the best parts of the DVD and yet the editors have committed one of the worst editions in history! It would have been better to edit the part where Gloria Stefan is a horrible fight with her scarf!
Honestly, this is no manifestation of evidence of Dion's talent: merely her juvenile character and insecurities, being mortified of the potential circumstance if she were to be delineated as a weak singer amongst the other vocalists. It's the time for all six to shine, perhaps more for Franklin given her respectable status, but definitely not a Dion-only show. Real vocal talent emerges once the mouth is opened. Take Mariah for instance: I think she was seamless, delivering august performances.
It's a good thing Aretha scooped Mariah out from the back, otherwise we'd probably never hear much vocal contribution from the rest of the singers (save for Celine 'Showoff' Dion). All six singers here are endowed with stupendous vocal capacity - part of the outstanding few who have graced this world with their divine gift. Thats why it had to be edited so much for the televisation.
Aretha may be a good singer but she can't sing WITH people. She doesn't give anyone a chance to sing until right near the end, there's a full 8 minutes of just her. This would have been much better if we heard more of everyone else, especially Carole King who was the SPECIAL GUEST and therefore deserved a little bit more of a chance to sing then she got.
It's funny how everyone say's that Mariah didn't sing out of respect, but we all know see just couldn't compete against Aretha and Celine if it would have been anytime before 1996 then you know Mariah would have tried to out do them.

I'm actually white and am not a believer you have to be black to sing good. I enjoy the music of Tom Jones, Barbra Streisand, Carole King, and others. None the less, I think Aretha's voice possessed a very mature, strong power to it. Her voice was most versatile in the mide 90s and throughout the 70s, and has possessed a gritty experienced tone in the 80s, a majestic tone these days, and a very young tone in the early 60s. I respect Aretha for her style through all of her vocal periods.

That was the best divas show i have ever seen, although there was shania twain, gloria estefan and carole king who people quickly dismissed them as wannabe or too grumpy or below the diva requirements but anyway they're good on their own craft. Aretha wouldn't be associated with A Natural Woman, without carole who wrote it. I was particularly amazed and applauded with celine's ability to deliver a beautiful song and take note it was not rehearsed. She is very versatile.
Celine had showed everybody how to sing a song. She not even impressed and surprised aretha but everybody else. The rest of the divas are just merely background singers. Celine hand so much power and control in her voice that she sung it very well. Aretha was even shocked that celine responded on her invitation. Like she couldn't believe a white girl can do it.

Mariah Carey could not over shadow Aretha Franklin NOR Celine Dion. She can only out power sing the others. Aretha Franklin has a range and depth that has not been matched by any living singers. Aretha may be a good singer but she can't sing WITH people. She doesn't give anyone a chance to sing until right near the end, there's a full 8 minutes of just her. This would have been much better if we heard more of everyone else, especially Carole King who was the SPECIAL GUEST and therefore deserved a little bit more of a chance to sing then she got.

It was obvious in this that Aretha wanted to end on a note belittling the other women .. and wanted to show that she could BELT better than them..
Well it is true she can belt better than them.. but honestly her voice isnt sweet...... its good for gospel but thats about it ..

I'm actually white and am not a believer you have to be black to sing good. I enjoy the music of Tom Jones, Barbra Streisand, Carole King, and others. None the less, I think Aretha's voice possessed a very mature, strong power to it. Her voice was most versatile in the mide 90s and throughout the 70s, and has possessed a gritty experienced tone in the 80s, a majestic tone these days, and a very young tone in the early 60s. I respect Aretha for her style through all of her vocal periods.

That was the best divas show i have ever seen, although there was shania twain, gloria estefan and carole king who people quickly dismissed them as wannabe or too grumpy or below the diva requirements but anyway they're good on their own craft. Aretha wouldn't be associated with A Natural Woman, without carole who wrote it. I was particularly amazed and applauded with celine's ability to deliver a beautiful song and take note it was not rehearsed. She is very versatile.

Mariah Carey could not over shadow Aretha Franklin NOR Celine Dion. She can only out power sing the others. Aretha Franklin has a range and depth that has not been matched by any living singers. Celine Dion has a saprano that can only be rivaled by certified opera singers; and while I do indeed agree that Mariah has a beautiful voice, she is out of her league against Aretha and Celine...at least she realizes this even if you do not.
