  • That's no C-130

  • music to my ears

  • Engine at 1:02 start to probably fail but they sad it's going to land

  • The most unmistakable sound there is. You do not even have to see the aircraft to know whats above you.

  • Used to see them at Pope Air Force bas when I was a kid awesome plane

  • its a monster!

  • That's my home town!!! I love those planes

  • Sounds like a 747 taking off at my house!

  • wow sounds just like the ships from star wars

  • It was only able to accomplish that type of short take off because it was empty; all the power behind those turbofans makes that possible. But with a full load? Not a chance.

  • I'm amazed something that big can stay aloft at such seemingly slow speeds!

  • I cant understand way u take videos of planes and u cut it off way didu not keep tapying the video was goog but u shood have kepd it rolling.

  • @caucus100 Maybe it was fully loaded with inflated weather balloons.

  • Anybody else get goose bumps?

  • It might as well should just hovered above the ground and then took off.

  • You can see these flying over when you are at Six Flags Great adventure in NJ (McGuire AFB) Loudest plane I have ever heard

  • It looks like it is going sooo slow yet it has enough thrust to take off

  • Today I got to sit in the cockpit of a C5 at Stewart during a tour :O

  • short takeoff? need to know how EXACTLY short it was to consider it short

  • The concorde is more awesome than this

  • @wild1heart Probably the most stupid comment on regarding aircrafts this year. Concorde is a completely different aircraft, and while the concord could, while it still was operational, do things the C5 can't, the Concord definitely can't take off like that.

  • Actually the C-5M Super Galaxy is the biggest U.S. Airforce plane but whatever, Still an awesome plane, Then the Russians Antonov An-225 Mriya is much bigger if you like big planes.

  • @GWOTdisaster this is 2003 the C-5M didn't exist

  • Actually the C-5M Super Galaxy is the biggest U.S. Airforce plane but whatever, Still an awesome plane, Then the Russians Antonov An-225 Mriya is much bigger if you like big planes.

  • Actually the C-5M Super Galaxy is the biggest but whatever, Still an awesome plane, Then the Russians Antonov An-225 Mriya is much bigger if you like big planes.

  • that sound is so SEXY!!!!

  • amazing... this is power!

  • the sound. the beauty... i came

  • The aircraft is so massive, it looks like it gets airborne at 70 kts ground speed! its just an illusion---probably closer to 120 kts

  • good pilot llok how sharp that turn was

  • You just witnessed an apartment building taking off in a few thousand feet.

  • holy shit!

  • when it takes off it has a little trouble, like a fat guy getting up from his seat

  • That sound gives me an airgasm

  • I can only think of the reaction of our forefathers, were this plane simply thrown back into time. They would see this plane and thereafter shit their pants with fear.

  • ahhhhhhhhhhh :D the sound of a 100000 dieing screaming catsXD

  • ooooooooooooooooo yyeeeaaa!!!!

  • I hear this every summer. I life in Stuttgart (germany) near the airport and when the galaxy starting, he´s fiying over my house ca. 300m high. The sound is awesome.

  • @townstar1 I couldn't agree with you more! The sound of this gigantic machine is nothing less than awesome during takeoff! Great point!

  • I hear these everyday i live next to a Airforce base

  • what an aircraft

  • That is wayyyyyyy coool!!

  • 22-24 second rollout, even empty, that is awesome.

  • great vid. great plane.

  • What amazing planes !! I live near an Airforce base and have the joy of seeing these periodically. They are so huge that they look as though they can't possibly take off and fly that slowly, the sound is incredible to aircraft buffs and the angle of climbout is obscene.

  • Nice video , Very clear and nice Sound

  • funny

  • wow that baby must create a shit-ton of thrust to take off in such a short distance!!

  • @cajmjb 44,000 lbs of thrust per engine, to be exact. :)

  • Who ever gets to fly one of these beast is lucky as shit

  • That's a big ass plane.

  • I have seen these take off and been next to them, the shear size of these girls makes it hard to get your mind around the fact they fly! I have seen 2 take off at civilian airports, 1 in Erie PA the other in Catasauqua PA, both times they shut off the road for this thing to take off, I was in my Jeep for the latter wondering WTF they stopped traffic, then turning to my right I seen & heard what looked like land mass take to the air. Very short take off, fight or flee noise!

  • it amazes me that things that big can actually get off the ground ... ... gotta love it !

  • No other plane sounds like this, its like Its like screams emanating from hell.

  • @kd4pba Thumbs up. It definitely sounds haunted.

  • @kd4pba thats the pussy chinies crieng because they want a cargo plane like this so they could ship whordes of asians

  • @kd4pba to me it sounds like a thousand dieing screaming cats xD

  • @kd4pba the c-5m now sounds like a 747 :(...... but i miss the old scream from the engine of the c-5 :)

  • @devastationz12349 Those old Rolls Royce turbines had that one of a kind scream. I miss them too.

  • @fermie125 yeah. and another thing, Rolls Royce didn't make the turbines that goes in the c-5, general electric did. just to let you know

  • @kd4pba Really? I think its more of a loud whine.

Now a B-52...there's screams emanating from hell. =)

  • Gotta love them TF-39s!! Shame we'll no longer hear that turbine-like sound when all the C5s are re-engined to the C5M Super Galaxy.

  • holy u know wat that is some powerful engines

  • I've seen a few of these take off in person and empty or loaded, it's always impressive to see that bird fly. Thanks for sharing....

  • cool..when no cargo ,,and minimal fuel,,,

  • That thing - AirBUST calls a plane, the A400M, could only dreamof doing this!

  • @onecunningfox no,the a400m is actually more agile than any other cargo plane.

  • @keili1212

It may be (and I belive that it is). But the fact remains that it is an overrated pice of crap, like every AirBUST plane (except the A300 and A330). Please see the C-17. The A400M is still unproven in the field and until it is, please hold your tongue. The C17 can do things no other plane can dream of. Wait until the A400 has to land and takeoff on a crater ridden runway with at MTOW. Then you can talk. But that may be never, so save it for now please. No EADS Koolaid here!

  • @onecunningfox You've never seen the a400m,but you say it's bullshit.Just wait ,yes it's still unproven and it's expensive.

Why do you think the a380,and a320 are crap?

  • @keili1212

Look I am sure the A400M will be a good plane, I even said so, but like the 787 we will be waiting for a long time to see this one prove itself. You will beacuse you are in Germany. However. you should be glad the USA build the C5 and C130 and C17, they moved US Troops/Supplies to Germany during the Cold War and protected Germany from DOMINATION by the USSR. So much for being grateful...

  • @onecunningfox The problem with the new Airbus is simple...how is it supposed to carry a tank? It looks like nothing more than a C17 with a refueling probe in the front and turboprops. At least the C17 has proven that it can do multiple roles. That's my view of it anyway.

  • @336kgf

The problem with the "new" (remember it took 20+ years to develop and build) A400M is that it is made by lazy Spainards and striking French fellows who work for a jobs club called AirBUST. Need I say more???? No one builds planes/defense weapons like the Americans do, it is something the Chinese, French, Brazilians, Candians or Russians will never be ale to do better than America. There is NO arguement to this point, Anyone who does is ignorant and does not know an ass from an elbow.

  • @onecunningfox Thumbs up. EXACTLY. If they really wanted a good cargo plane, they could have done what the RAF did and just buy C17s from us. It's a proven airframe that more than does the job. I'm sure this new Airbus is great for troop transport, light armor, replenishment etc. but other than that I don't see it doing much. If Lockheed, Boeing, General Dynamics, Grumman etc. had been building garbage, they wouldn't be serving with so many other nations besides just us and Canada.

  • Nice vid, you know that thing is dead empty too, probably only enough fuel on board to fly around for the crowd

  • @KimmurielBaenre no they take off about the same no matter what unless they really got a load on them, i watch them do this every day

  • @KimmurielBaenre I doubt if they would let a plane with actual cargo fly around and do a demo at an airshow. I know Fat Albert performs for the Blue Angels, but everything is out of the cargo hold.

  • @336kgf Oh no doubt you are right. The point I was making was only that an empty plane will always be impressive versus one near its MTOW. Commercial airliners are no different, empty = rocket :D

  • Full Flaps plus a full throttle while standing on the brakes will get you places fast!

  • this is where your tax money is going

  • @21boxhead Better this then shaniquah whos robbing the welfare system.

  • @21boxhead and it's completely worth it.

  • Words defy me...

  • shit it didnt seem like it needs allot of runway

  • mmm i wanna see the antonov 225 do tht

  • awesome what a sound

  • i love those engines

  • Nice shot. When they fly over my house it seams like it's going to fall out of the sky

  • How did he not stall?

  • Nope, haha C-5 is the biggest plane in the U.S. Air Force I promise.

  • C 17 IS BIGGER

  • @Millard97 C-5 specs - Length - 247 ft. Wingspan - 223 ft. Weight empty - 380,000 lb. Payload - 270,000 lb. C-17 specs. Length - 174 ft. Wingspan - 170 ft. Weight empty - 282,500 lb. Payload - 170,900 lb.
  • @Millard97 ah no

  • c-5 galaxy is not the largest aircraft in us air force!

  • @Leeanmarjon Then what is?

  • @Leeanmarjon

    Then what is?

  • Dam, this baby sure gets into the air FAST! for such a big plane!

  • Head Wind? How was that massive of a plane lifted off so fast? That is pretty amazing. in person or video!

  • crazy!

  • Those things are so big they mess with your sense of scale and speed. At Bragg they look like you could knock them down with a brick from the parking lot as they fly overhead. Very distinctive sound and will never be mistaken for another plane.

  • @duanedragon2 so true... I love by dobbins air force reserve base in marietta georgia and you can always tell when these bad boys are near.. Those turbofans fill shake the panes of glass in the windows of your house. The screaming those engines make completely separates it from the others, there is also a lot of f-22's, c-130's and c-17's that fly over my house on a daily basis

  • @notredame2191 I stood inside one of these beasts at an airshow at Scott AFB in the 80s. I felt very very tiny, like I wouldn't be able to walk to the other side because it was too far away.

  • Hard to believe such a monster could fly;) amazing plane and sound of engines.

  • I was there! Trust me,It was WAY more amazing in person!!!

  • Pure thrust from those four engines is what's lifting that enourmous thing off the tarmac.

  • I've seen them take-off in east Mesa, Arizona coming out of Wiiliams- Gateway Airport.

  • a little to steep for my taste

  • USAF=AIR POWER

  • Are those the same model engines that are on the 747?

  • haha from the tail marking it looks like a dover plane xD

  • Its so big that it looks like its hardly moving when it leaves the ground.

  • loud takeoff.

  • That was badass

  • Flying Whale

Now a Days U can make anything fly

The Plane must be empty for the show

If Pilot do the same TO with Full Loads then It is Jessica Time Again.

    G

  • I love the engine sound. It sound like a combination of a V8 and a Jet engine.

It sounded like a V8 going from 8500 RPM going down to 6000 RPM when it flew by.

  • Awesome ! What a sound !!!

  • I lived near these planes for 20 years! They used to scare me when i was little.

  • Where was that at?

  • God I LOVE the spool, and whine, to these behemoths engines...!!! The only commerical aircraft, that i can think of that comes close to this, is the Airbus A340.....

  • couple things to ask, did the c17 globemaster replace this? and did the russian antonov 124 get its inspiration from this?

  • The C-17 will eventually replace the C-5. The C-5 has been around practically the same time as the 747 and production has stopped quite some time ago out of Marietta. You can still see them in bases such as Kelly and Warner Robbins. The AN 124 was probably copied in a way from the C-5 just like they have copied lots of other planes like the B-1 and Space Shuttle.

  • @ExterminatorOfEnemy i hope it dosent

  • @ExterminatorOfEnemy Have they made a final decision on going all c-17? Reason I ask is they now have the C-5M.

  • The C-17 continues to be built but I think they intend to keep some later model C-5s in service because of the new engines. I don't think they will build the C-5 again, though. The C-17 is more maneuverable and fuel efficient. The C-5 is aged and stress factors come into play because of its long life. Still amazing aircraft, though.

  • @ExterminatorOfEnemy the c5 has a life service expectancy until the year 2040, the c5 m models are very fuel efficent, and while the 17 may be more manuverable, it cant haul what a c5 can, and sometimes its now how well it moves its how much it holds, and the maintenance the air force stresses on their aircraft is amazing, itll be around for a while simply because that plane can do so much

  • @bc1969214 c5s will be around until 2040, thats the life service expectancy of them

  • thats not real. is it?

  • Watched these behemoths take off near Travis AFB...it's really incredible.

  • magnifique!

  • absolutely stunning

  • I'm gonna miss these things when they retire them. i've gotten to see them several times in person before and man what a treat.

  • makes you wonder if they're gona go bigger. I've seen them fit planes in that plane. The engine itself is big enough to throw a party in.

  • That was impressive, wow...

  • I can't believe how short of a takeoff there was. At the bass I used to live at those things took up the whole runway. And they broke easily.

  • Oh I forgot to mention, LOL at this crew hotdogging it in a fred!

  • Dear God. That takeoff looked as unnatural as a fat chick running the 200meter dash.

  • @migkiller001 That has got to be the funniest phrase I have ever heard about the C-5. That familiar whine is now gone with the new engine on the C-5M Kinda miss hearing it.

  • @migkiller001 lmao!

  • You can tell it's lightly fueled. If it was fueled for long range it would sit much lower on it's landing gear and the wings would droop a bit more. Too bad it's retired now.

  • @Chuckjagermeister retired? I believe your getting confused with the C-141 sir....and it was sad to see her go...first aircraft I worked when I came in

  • I really thought it was. Either that or it's about to be. With any similar vintage, large plane there is an issue with wing fatigue. I know the difference between the two.

  • They have started retiring some C-5's to the boneyard

  • huh? this plane isn't retired.

you're thinking of the c-141. it looks like this plane but it's smaller. :)

  • I thought I cleared this up. Read the last post. Wing fatigue (cracks between the wings and wing roots) is an issue with the C-5. The C-17 was designed to replace the C-5. The C-141 is older but smaller and doesn't suffer the same massive wing-flex that the C-5 does. Still, it does have wing fatigue cracks as well and is being retired in larger numbers.

  • aw darn. :/

  • All the C-141's are retired or on display, I do believe NASA still has theirs stored.

I'm curious, where are you getting the wing fatigue being a big issue on the C-5's?

The C-17 was more of a replacement for the C-141. IIRC, it takes approx 2.5 C-17's to do the job of one loaded C-5. The C-17 is excellent for what it does.

As of right now, there are 14 C-5's that have been retired and there aren't more scheduled to be retired. That may change with the 2010 Defense Bill, only time will tell!

  • when a high wing aircraft such as the beautiful C-5 you get a flex of the wings upward and this causes extreme stress.

I think they fixed all of the by adding ionized aluminum?

  • Original C-5 had problems with the wings flapping (oscillating) like a bird. Eventually, all these things were corrected in the design.

  • Comment removed

  • The ALDCS system stopped the flapping

  • whoa. yeah dude. they're only retiring the A Version of the C-5 Galaxy.

Why would they reitre a plane that just came out with a new model a few years ago? The C-5M or the C-5 Super Galaxy? c'mon bro. this plane isn't expected to even be NEAR retirement until 2040.

  • Yeah it would be a waste to retire the new version which I didn't really know much about. I was misinformed.

  • hey dude. it's fine. :)

  • 1. ALL C-141's are retired.

    2. A few older C-5's have been retired.

    3. The rest of the C-5's in the fleet are receiving a thorough upgrade of the avionics and engines.

    4. The C-17 effectively replaced the C-141.

    Hope this clears things up.

  • this plane C-5 need to add 6 powerful jets than 4 jets

  • Yeah, I think you're right. If the runway markers are 500 meters apart, he was wheels up before 3000 meters. With reference to the AN225, the Russians only build one, and have a partially-completed one in a hangar. We built lots of C5's.

  • Five hundred FEET apart... not meters...

  • D'oh! You're right. Geez, what a cherry mistake.

  • Comment removed

  • wow that plane could stalled

  • daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn, that's impressive! beats the crap out of all those little corporate jets!

  • thats nasty

  • wow

  • Where can I buy one?

  • Ebay

    Bids start at 1 dollar

  • this vid is good, but it does no justice . you have to be there with. because you would not belive how loud that bird is.

  • you should hear a B-1B

  • dude fuck all of the russian aircraft, all they fucking do is copy the american's designs and make them bigger. Other than the Tu-95, but still the B-52 owns it anyway.

  • Those sound like the old engines, very impressive! The C-5 fleet has been going through a very expensive engine upgrade, which gives it 747 efficiency and power! Remember those C-5 engines were developed for this plane before the 747. The 747 has had the benefit of upgrades in engine technology over the last 40 years. The C-5 was still running the same engine from roll out!

  • The C-5 was built before the AN-225, it has always had mid-air refueling capacity, and it has regularly carried a group of up to 21 crew members to switch out during extended globe-spanning flights. It also has standard seating for 80 troops and their equipment alongside equipment that has to be stowed in the main hold.

  • AN-225 can't take off as short of runway as the C5 can :)

  • well, the C-5 is more of the size of an AN-124, and AN-225 is still bigger than the C-5

  • uhhh, that was sick

  • ahh awesome shit
