Thank you for posting these lovely pictures of Paris--definitely a place i intend to visit. I'm from Ontario so this song has special meaning for me. Neil is definitely a national treasure--along with Joni, Leonard Cohen, and Gordon Lightfoot. If you want to see an absolutely dazzling performance of this song take a look at k d lang singing it at our 2005 music awards. It's posted on youtube. The richness of k d's voice, backed up by an orchestra is so appealing that I keep going back to it
Being from Ontario - I've related to this tune and the North as a place to think - a solemn place with deep blue skies and rugged rocky grey one-ness, where sheer scale of empty terrain brings both peace and a feeling of helpless recognition that the land is too big too forlorn to change - it changes you (all my changes were there).
Let's not get into comparison, it debases the fact that this is ONE TERRIFIC COMPOSITION, that has traveled time, place, and venue ... I relive my life when I hear this song. Neil is a master songwriter, of the highest level.
Actually it is about OMEMEE where Neil spent his formative years...even contracting Polio..but it is where he developed his love of music and trains. Beautiful song for sure!
this song reaches inside me and tugs at my soul......i love my music and there will NEVER be a more meaningful song for me. just close your eyes and drift away...... amazing!!!
I'm not going to lie hundreds of thousands of prestine and secluded lakes in all directions is pretty sweet. I would still seriously consider spending money to go to france.
rugerzandlugerz: I've been to France and I liked it. You should see atleat 3 cities. But keep in mind that most restaurants don't open until atleat 6pm. Unless you go to McDonald's.
Well, I live in northern Ontario, and the images it evokes for me is a mid-January cold clear winter night here, far away from Paris or anywhere else.
Give the guy a break. It's an image of Ontario, but it's not about Ontario. It's about how you can never go back. It's about how home is never the same once you leave it. It's about change and inevitablity. It's about how the past is only a memory, but one that we need and can't live without.
Thought I play in a power metal band and primarily listen to heavy metal of all genres, Neil Young is my all-time favorite songwriter and this would have to be my favorite song.
Everyone here sounds helpless

I hate it when they do that. Try uploading it to Clipser (dot) com they don't seem to remove the music.
HellN0Kittee 2 years ago
i have my YT channel, and i will stay with that.
But i hope one day it will be possible to reload all the copyright claimes videos the Warner Music disliked
prosepp 2 years ago
Aww Well I wish somebody would upload a lot of these songs to Clipser because for now that seems to be one of the only options there is.
HellN0Kittee 2 years ago
the question i, how long this option will exist
prosepp 2 years ago
I have no idea. Hopefully for a very long time.
HellN0Kittee 2 years ago
That's fine ~Take the music,,~I'll make POINT nwver to buy it

i understand your anger on that. But YouTube has no choice when a copyright claim comes.
I wish you a good, healthy and peaceful year 2009
prosepp 3 years ago
Well I enjoyed your video and the music.
Thank you for both.
grazon 3 years ago
thank you very much.
I hope some day things will change so that i can upload the videos with the great music of Neil Young again.
prosepp 3 years ago
well, its not on YT. Someone made a copyright claim, i don´t know who its been (sometimes they tell, sometimes not.
I am not happy, but i had no choice than mutin or deleting the video.
I choose the mute option, so that people can recognize these facts
best wishes for 2009 - i specially wish you that you´ll learn to avoid that f.... - word

Prosepp,
as I mentioned really like your video.
Of course this is what you are relating to - thats what makes music (like Neils) so great.
Paris looks great - inspired backdrop to you material.

thank you a very lot for coming back and telling me.
and you are soooo right that i´d like to say:
That´s what makes the internet such a great thing:
It brings people from so very far away and their sight on things together.
many greetings

Thanks for this.
Never would have thought of Paris - Nice work.
Barn1900 3 years ago
sure. Think this might be the better place to think of. But you have to have a relation to the place.
Living over here in a different continent, it is far too abstract, if one has never been there.
Hope despite all that locational question, i have been able to get a little bit of that feeling into the video
lots of greetings to you

electric guitar with sligh, is used with a table. Maybe you did it in videos of country music. And my english is poor to explain.
Hope this help!!
VIRGILIOVIEGAS 3 years ago
i'm pretty sure it's a steel guitar. almost positive. it's used in other neil songs such as "old man", right at the chorus. if you want to listen.
kinder1990 3 years ago
wish i could make a sound like that
mushy85 3 years ago
Pedal steel guitar.
It may even be Jerry Garcia, tho' I don't have the liner notes.
He did pedal steel on another tune from Deja Vu (album).

You can also get the same effect with a trebly Fender strat and a tremolo while using your pinky finger to adjust the volume knob.
