  • I love the Isley Brothers. What happened to good music?

  • THEY PLAY THIS AT MY JOB LOL

  • @MISBENITEZ Lucky...I wish they played it at MY job. In fact we don't get any music.

  • If this doesn't make you want to get off your ass and get to work, you are not a man!!

  • tenatu awb wrote this bac in the day

  • "Hey Charlette! Remember when you hit the back of the garbage truck jammin to this in the brand new Deuce and a quarter you had for 2 days? We laugh now but it wasn't so funny then......why can't we be young again?"

  • Going to work...perfect song to listen to (:

  • I LOVE THESE GUYS I WOULD JUST LISTEN TO THERE ALBUMS AND THE MUSIC WOULD TAKE ME TO ANOTHER PLACE GREAT VOCALS, BEATS, GUTAIR LICKS AND GREAT MUSICANS, AND WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE FOR ME.

  • This is the original version of the song- There are good covers by the Average White Band, Vanessa Williams and the Main Ingredient.

  • Although time is of the essence, let us not be pressured into the rush state. With the work that follows, let us evolve from its higher meaning.

  • Super Tune

  • Such a perfect song. Love this. Cheers! ;)

  • A wonderful wife who supports her man won't need to hear this song..A thoughtful husband won't overdo the overtime...

  • @BrankNapptism

A wonderful husband who supports his wife won't have to hear Vanessa sing this song! A thoughtful wife won't overdo the overtime! The wise father won't let his daughter near a man who sings this as an excuse!

  • @Truthnuff

    OK...

  • Men, do your best and try to avoid this situation. Even if you mean well, it's the beginning to the downfall of your relationship/marriage.

  • my azz need a job sheeeeeeit!

  • n 2012 we all got 2 do,that right

  • Average white band kilt dis song... #RT

  • The song "Summer Breeze" was done by Seals & Crofts and later redone by the Isleys. "Work to do" was an original by the Isleys. It was written and produced by the group. Just some food for thought!

  • Lost for words and thats rare for me. They just dont make them like they used to im telling ya.

  • Private schools, viet-nam, first girl and the Isley Bros. pulled me through all of it.

  • I got to get a job, this music encourage.

  • my god, i loooooooooooooooove the isley brothers !!!!!

  • @TitusSviatoslav Pretty accurate ratings.

  • @TitusSviatoslav I have to agree with you! The 70's especially.....some unbelievably creative songwriting came out of that era.

  • @TitusSviatoslav I agree with your ratings largely, however I would have rated the 90s onward even lower, and maybe give the 70s Pure Gold LOL. Also wikipedia lists this as written by the Isleys, but the other versions are good too. AWB's may be my favorite. wish I could find the Isleys Live version of Love the One You're with. It was much better than stephen stills version, which was also good.

  • Thank you Mayer Hawthorne for making me discover this song!

  • alot of good music was out in th 90 in the early 2000 but after 04 thats when music started getting bad

  • @TitusSviatoslav epics monumental lol, new born babies feel it !

  • @TitusSviatoslav lol indeed so true

  • ....another one I remember...I was 16 years old, just got my driver's license drivin my dad's St. Moritz blue firemist 1972 Cadillac Sedan DeVille......couldn't tell me "nothin".....where'd the good old days go?

  • I remember when I heard the version The Average White Band did back in the 70's , and it was good , but when I heard the ORIGINAL no contest . Pure gold !

  • Nothing else need be said!!!!

  • no better way to say it

  • listen to mayer hawthorne's version his is just as good

  • this is one of my favorites by the isleys in a list of 20 songs its true i got work to do sometimes 96 hours a week and as usual no understanding in the family but i love it

  • Those basement parties were great. Kids today can't enjoy themselves like we did without someone acting crazy.

  • @iseeu36 Not only basement parties, all parties have great mood those times,I speak from my time and that's mid 80's and early 90's,todays kids are diferent, bye from Macedonia!

  • LIXO LIXO LIXOLIXO LIXO LIXOLIXO LIXO LIXOLIXO LIXO LIXOLIXO LIXO LIXOLIXO LIXO LIXOLIXO LIXO LIXOLIXO LIXO LIXOLIXO LIXO LIXOLIXO LIXO LIXO

  • @Biglitllemlkzika Também acho ! Furacão 2000 e proibidão é q é bão !

  • We used to ROCK this when I was in high school.... Quarter/ fifty cent basemet parties....

  • @TitusSviatoslav So in your world people would still be producing 70's rock and r&b for the next 500 years and nothing else. Time moves on, live with it.

  • work to do?

  • @TitusSviatoslav: I AGREE!!!

  • @TitusSviatoslav Even though I wasn't around in the 60s and 70s to enjoy great music like this, I agree with you.

  • @TitusSviatoslav Mayer Hawthorne's version of this song is better. And he released it a few days ago - in 2011.

  • @MorfeBD

That's a good cover, and I'm just happy to hear a classic like this done well. Maybe Hawthorne will write something of similar magnitude!

  • @MorfeBD no it is not better.

  • "Keep your loves lights burning and a little food hot in my plate"...might be home a little late....LOL I'm working and I got "Work to Do"

Yes, yes! Lovin another true. blue CLASSIC!

  • They played this song on "The Bernie Mack Show" today (or at least some of it

R I P Bernard Jeffrey McCullough (Bernie Mac)

  • @TitusSviatoslav What about the 50s when it all started?

  • @dalosophy - perhaps you're thinking of Summer Breeze written by Seals and Crofts

  • I'm in my mid 30's now and I still remember listening to this when i was a baby...this is still good music.

  • Fell in love with this song as a 12 year old back in '72 and still lovin' it nearly 40 years later. Timeless!

  • TY PalmBeach1028 - I was running on presumption. As a youngster I (didn't) thought the S&C version came out first and afterward the Isley Brothers. My bad indeed.

  • This is to my babies mama's loves u and I handlin it the best I can for us

  • This song will not shut all wives up! But nice sentiment. Seals & Croft wrote it, but this version and AWB rival each other. Each with a different pace and a different vibe. All good...

  • @dalosophy On AllMusic.com, songwriting credit is given to the Isley Brothers.

    allmusic.com/song/work-to-do-t1560079

  • @dalosophy Seals & Croft did not compose "Work to do" They're two talented fellows. But they did not write this particular piece of music. Although it has a chordal progression akin to "Summer Breeze," Which is a Seals, and Croft melody. Beautiful rendition from both groups(AWB & The Isleys) as far as I'm concerned!!!

  • @dalosophy I was thinkin that when I heard Vanessa Williams say the same thing! This will not shut the husbands up! I like her version best!

  • Comment removed

  • @dalosophy Seals and Crofts wrote Summer Breeze (another hit for the Isleys). They did NOT write this one. This is all Isley's!

  • A"W"B sound better!!

  • LOVE IT!

  • I COULDNT SING BEFORE HEARING THIS!

  • this song is making me go NUTS, my neighbors are calling the COPS!

  • or shut your GIRLFRIEND up! EVERYBODY THUMBS UP SINUOUS HE SPEAKS THE FUCKIN TRUTH!

  • Dead Ass.

  • This this S H I T right here kid...... i bake to this all the time... my my the times.. B)

  • Everytime I hear the beginning of this song I think it's Mercy Me by Marvin Gaye

  • @TutsRevenge so right

  • Although duplicated sooo many times, this original still stands tall all on its own. Luv the Isley Brothers & thanx for this!

  • This really great music that today's

    musicians can never beat.!

  • JAMIN!!!!!

  • ROFLMAOOOOOO

You guys are hilarious with these comments!

    Thanks for the laughs!

    Great song!!!!!!!!!!

    ONE LOVE!

    I'm out!

  • 3 people dont have work, a job, or a girl

  • I'm a big Isley fan (yes, it's their song), but I happen to also like three other versions of this song because they all offer something different. AWB upped the tempo, Vanessa Williams of course, gives it a woman's touch and a lesser known version by the Main Ingredient puts another spin on it. I enjoy remakes that don't just copy the original arrangement. Long as the original gets it's props.

  • this song has been sampled soooooooooooo manyyyyyyyyyyy timesssss lol

  • killer song.

  • I don't know about shut'in your wife up but it will certainly make her DANCE!!!

  • Are the Isley brothers in the Rock and Roll Hall of fame ? They should be.

  • @Fairexchange41 Yes, indeed, The Isley Brothers are in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. They were inducted back in 1992, the same as Johnny Cash, Sam & Dave, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Booker T & the MGs, and The Yardbirds. Quite a class, isn't it?

  • Wooooaaa! I can fell the groooove baby!! Awesome song!

  • With all due respect, it was when AWB covered this song in '74 that it really began to get noticed —And, it's easy to see why —I mean this is nice. What's not to like? It's the Isleys. But, next to AWB's it's rather tepid —AWB's blistering funk rhythm, soaring horns and powerful vocal attack bring out the magnificence...

  • @AwaTu you know nothing about music

  • @boostmeup Now that's an intelligent response —Something you'd never say if we were face to face in conversation —I know enough to articulate an opinion in a meaningful way. What I stated is, in part, fact, as the commercial success of this song was much more far-reaching with AWB —And, the rest are my feelings about the song —How music comes to one's experience is subjective —You ought to know that. I've been playing for 55 years —I don't think I need your approval...

  • I've always been an Isley Brothers fan and have always loved this tune. I never heard Vanessa Williams or AWB sing the song until just now. Their versions are good too (except for the rap interlude in Vanessa's piece--I HATE rap!!). I don't think that the AWB version is markedly different from this one. Ppl who prefer it must have a preference for AWB is all. I love the original.

  • Big tune!

  • LIFE ANTHEM

  • Some of their best work...

  • I love this song so much!! vanessas williams also has a nice version of it. Great song. I love it.

  • Hey with all due respect to the Isley's cause I klnow they wrote the song, but compared the AWB version this sounds like Brazilian elevator music!

  • @Thopter Whatever you're smoking has killed a few brain cells. AWB version is tight too but the Isley's got it

  • 0:47 ♥

  • So good...

  • The Tsley Brothers uno de los grandes grupos desde los 50.

  • this song will shut your wife up

  • @sinuous88 - that is the greatest comment I've ever read about anything. Ever.

  • @sinuous88 - that is the greatest comment I've ever read about anything. Ever.

  • @sinuous88 lol

    omg

  • @sinuous88 dats why I play it lol.... for all the women

  • @sinuous88 and vannesa shuts up the husbands then i guess...and if that's not enough you may not be able to play the song for her cause she's out cheating from neglect...

  • @sinuous88 :Yeah back in the day. Now women have work to do also.

  • I used to work in a little office and when this song came on I was pyched to work natch!

  • The Isley Bros. are another band this is so underated, there's absolutely no words for it. As far as rock, R&B & pop markets, the Isleys have contributed emphatically. They got no accolades.

  • Can you believe that the isley brothers have been makin super hits since the late fifties, and have some the best rock stories in the Rock genre. Such as influencing the beatles to discovering jimi hendrix and yet they are not anybodies top 100 artists or guitarist list for that matter. Just saying.

  • @joshua626 PREACH

  • I love this song!!!! Now this is music.

  • great tune. similar beat to webster lewis's elbobo

  • i'm playing this song right now for my fiance.

  • Hearing this and AWB version is like eating a the identical dish both tasteful but offered in extra spicy or extra smooth!

  • @missmadison08 madison girl i'm trying to tell you. i've been blasting it all day lol. it empowers men. they always played the instrumental on the show but i never thought it was an actual tune. you know that opening song with the trumpets they play whenever they come from a break is a song too? you should check it out. its so cool lol. ts monk - bon, bon vie (good, good life)

  • This is the song after the pistons win the nba title in 2004.

  • my unofficial theme song right here!

  • During youth in the Bronx, Bro Marvin dated a very nice woman in my building. Coming around in his 'pimp style, rust colored LD (Eldorado) with the diamond in the back and the fake wheel on the back :-), he always, always stopped to give autographs and speak nice and gently to all of us. No one bothered him or showed disrespect. Diabetes is nothing to play with so if some if you have this challenge respect it so you can give yourself the best chance to overcome it. Peace. Two fingers!

  • Great Song! RIP Marvin! Great Bass line!

  • so simple ... but powerful ... excellent song

  • one of the best songs ever

  • this is how i was feeling bout us and i loved it good dawm song!!!

  • I was lucky enough to see the Isley Brothers with ther Chambers Brothers once in Los Angeles. I think it was 1974, great show.

  • this song fucking rocks oooooooooohhhhhhh yeeeeeeaaaahhh.

  • @playboygirlsrule

    definitely!

  • I love Vanessa Williams version.

  • Average white band is good. This one is more soulful than AWB's which is just a bit faster than this one. What do you think?

  • AAAAAOOOOHHHH! Top 5 all-time stuff!

  • HUH! GREAT SONG

  • love this......thanks sooooooooo much for posting this tune!

  • this is the song for whenever your wife or girlfriend starts to complain, when they do, get the biggest stereo you can find and play it so loud so you can tune their voices out lol

  • Lost in the shuffle is the Isley Manifesto, that the world is a dog-eat-dog darwinian dystopia up for grabs to anyone with the moxie to take it. Just throw a quite glance at their discography, with song titles like Climbin' Up the Ladder, Winner Takes All, Go For Your Guns, Fight The Power.

  • wow they had the nerve 2 play this while those men built cross country rail roads?whoa they def had alot of work to do

  • the railroaders national anthem, should be played in all locomotives :)
