depending on your status as a geisha you may have 2 or 3 line marking on your neck. Your kimono must reflect the time of seasons that you are in japan. such as if you were going cherry blossom viewing you kimono would relate to cherry blossoms or spring, but for geisha there's reflect on were they are going and who they are entertaining but the kimono choice still apply.
Ok it is not true that Geisha are trained in flower arrangement, they entertain men at parties. You cannot sit down in front of a man and begin arranging flowers, you will find that he has gone to sleep!
They need to do more studying than what they have. And if they think Memoirs of a Geisha is true IT'S NOT! IT'S A FAIRY TALE STORY WRITTEN BY AN ARROGANT MAN WHO DOESN'T KNOW WHAT HE'S DONE TO THE GEISHAS' REPUTATION!
The geiko has way more say in what she wears when she becomes a geiko than what a maiko does. And SistaMac525, currently, I wouldn't listen to what this person has to say. dfghjkkliytg doesn't know what they are talking about. I've been studying the ways of maiko and geiko for most of my life, and I will be living with them as it is.
i beg to differ. Geisha are taught what is called Ikebana, meaning flower arrangement. The face that you think this is completely wrong dfghjkkliytg. You need to do a LOT more researching and spend a few YEARS on learning about maiko and geiko. Also, maiko and geiko are trained (YES TRAINED) in matching kimono and obi with motifs and seasons as well as occassions. They HAVE TO BE ABLE TO DO THIS especially if one woman decides to open her own okiya.
@WolfLuvStar it was in Kyoto at Maiko-Henshin Studios. You can probably find them online and get pricing. We were very lucky and a good friend had gifted this to us, so I don't know the cost.
@WolfLuvStar It costs 6500 yen = about 85$ usd for 2 pictures in there studio OR 16000 = 210$ USD and thats for 6 pictures taken outdoors in various nearby areas. Both Packages include all the makeup and kimono.
Great video. But there are some mistakes here. Geishas are note trained in kimono (they have people who dresses them) and they are never trained in flower aranging. As for the neck, it always has that one design with two points, expet for special ocasions when theres 3.
@darkjapanesegirl18 Thank you for responding to assroads comment and the kind words. Amazing how some people are so ignorant and shallow that they miss the whole point. This experience has made my life richer anyone else who dares to try, something that people like assroads will never comprehend. So sad for assroads.
@SistaMac525 It really doesn't matter what people like assroads think, it matters to mainly you, it was a fun experiance to you and wanting to share that experiance is not only thoughtful but fun to everyone else who wants to do what you did. The main reason they make tourist attractions like that is for tourists and probably some locals to have a feel for the ancient tradition of the country and for locals to get in touch with their heritage. I envy you because you got to do that :D
@darkjapanesegirl18 I couldn't have said it better! You are wise beyond your years and its been a pleasure communicating. I like your poetry and your dark interpretations. They are very beautiful. I am also a huge animal lover, (having animals all my life,) and appreciate your video on the horrible abuse. It needs to be put out there for people to see so it can be stopped!
Wow...I went to a place in Kyoto 3 years ago where myself and a friend were made up into Maiko`s...It was worth every penny to see my husband`s reaction. You make a great looking Geisha also!
@geishastace Thank you so much for the compliment! I agree it was well worth it! My husband's had quite the reaction too when he finally saw me. Actually I had quite the reaction when I saw myself! LOL! A wonderful experience!

@HammerBirchgrove Hmmmm, I know they dress the men as warrior or samuri. I don't know their policies for men dressing as Maiko. It can't hurt to ask.

Great video. But geishas are not trained in flower aranging, that is just a myth...

@dfghjkkliytg Thanks for the information. Corrections noted. :) Glad you enjoyed the video! Cheers.

@dfghjkkliytg Its not just a myth, its called ikebana, and the maikos and geikos are not trained in it, but educated in it.
Why would you say its only a myth?
SauryGirl1 1 year ago 13
@dfghjkkliytg actually, they are trained in flower arrangment. It is called Ikibana or Kado.
