The problem here is that he's let you cross face him in the first place. Saulo Ribiero says the biggest mistake most people make is not blocking the cross face before it happens. If you never let anyone cross face you they will never attain a good side control position. Just sayin'.
Good point Kanguesso, a good teach must articulate his message, and do it slowly, and deliberately to allow the viewer or student enough time to download. That is such a nice comment that rings true regarding teaching a technique as if you are writing a childrens book. Awesome point!
WOW, One of the best side control escapes i have ever seen. What makes it one of the best is how well it is taught and how well it is articulated. I love teachers who teach you a technique as he/she were writing a children's book. Not all of us are blessed with the ability to get things right away as if we were all black belts to begin with.
Very good teaching I am a beginner and have been doing this with my bro have learnt alot from this vid it didn't just show one move but how to get out and what do do if they try and get out :)
Love the threading of the arms on drills like these. Side mount escapes are difficult when forcing the scoot out or back to guard drills. Controlling the neck and hips are paramount to manipulating the body to move. Nice.
Some very nice details here. I use Saulo Ribieros advice of always blocking the cross face with a hand around the biceps and it has helped immensely. I like the "look at your watch" point. I will try this next time I roll. Thanks!
Too much talking? I actually think this is good that the instructor is not just covering the one technique, but also some of the pitfalls to look out for and how to avoid them.. He's also not just teaching the details, but explaining WHY each one is important. I think this can be more valuable for the student, it gets them thinking more about the concepts behind the techniques. Patience.

bos and sparrow I agree with. Side escapes are always the toughest when we are white belts.
