  • yeah!!!

  • I never thought Gary had much to do with this.

His playing surprises me a bit here.

    I thought...it was Steves show

  • Steve gaines is the freaking man my god that guy can smoke on the guitar

  • stevie gains pure genius cant wait to see the guys in glasgow scotland june 1st really cant come quick enough

  • You know you're a bad ass if you've got your own Okie!

  • its so sad that we'll never see or hear this 3 guitar attack again

  • This would have been one of the last shows before the plane crash. The live album from the Fox and Street Survivors were on the shelves.

  • Guess this settles who the best "slide" player of the group was at the end. Steven was just a guitar "phenom" ALL the way around!

  • This video is great but would be better if that damned "ME-26" wasn't smack in the middle of the video.

  • Play it Steve Gaines! Had the deluxe pleasure of early exposure to Steve ( & Cassie) during the Crawdad days. Thanks for the post with GREAT footage!

  • Tony. that lil stupid poster done took the audio from this and posted it with pics. i guess he wants to look like he posted it.

  • This music makes me have diarrhea on bibles and confederate flags over and over and over

  • i can hear Dicky Betts lead on the "Eat a Peach " Lp on "One way out" fitting in here..that is a great lead done in the same vein as these great solos...

  • Normal bands have guitar players..., Skynyrd had 3 Guitar Gods!

  • this song as well as freebird just goes to show the sheer guitar talent allen gary and steve had and they will never be conpaired to stevie ray vaughan or dime bag because theres 3 guitarist and thats bull by far they are in the top ten guitarists sut look at there songs all hit every one of em the had it all great guitar playeres excellent singer good drums bass back up singers piano was good they were just absolutely outstanding!!!

  • Thanks for posting. No comments needed - they were simply the best band during this time (if not of all time). I always wish they were all still intact and still around in the original lineup! Long live Lynyrd Skynyrd!

  • GREATEST BAND OF ALL TIME PERIOD !!!!!

  • steve gaines in a different house is right.... i agree... he made a big impact on the band in a short time....

  • your opinion of gaines you can keep to yourself buddy, ED King made the band in 74.

  • @bearing44 Steve would have been another Steve Ray Vaughn or Clapton with out question if you know anything about guitars. Have not heard much from Ed since he left.

  • @12889414 Was at this show in Asbury-took 4 trains from NYC to get there. Gary was good, Allen was very good, Steve was exceptional-in a whole different house. No disrespect to the others.

  • @savannah388 Do you know how lucky you are. I love Ronnie he was the man, and Steve was bound for greatness,I loved Duane Allman, Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn.Layne Staley and they all died before I knew who they were.I just wonder why the world is not producing people like this any more.

  • @12889414 I actually saw The Dominoes with Duane Allman in Tampa--one of the few appearances he made live with them.

  • @savannah388 Jesus, If I were in your shoes I could die a happy man, How was Duane, I would want him to play that slide so loud my head would explode. Don't reply back and say you saw Hendrix, and Stevie. I want be able to take it.

  • @12889414 Saw SRV many times-outstanding guitarist-never was a Hendrix fan and did not see him. I think Clapton is probably in my opinion the best I ever saw but Duane was just as good in a different kind of jazzy oriented jam way. Just very different than Clapton. Saw The Band, George Harrison at Bangladesh, Dylan. Saw The stones in early 70's.

  • @savannah388 Duane was without question the best slide player in Rock-Clapton is the first one to admit that-he idolized Duane and vice-versa.

  • @savannah388 Duane is what inspired me to learn how to play, he gives me chill bumps, soul serenade is just so awsome. If you ask me Duane was the greatest Hendrix second.

  • @savannah388 damn girl I don't know what to say.

  • @bearing44 So I guess Ronnie wasn't even needed huh? Ed was good but not in the same class as STEVE GAINS, So keep your opinion of Ed to yourself buddy. Ronnie said he was a whinning little bitch anyway,He should have stayed with strawberry alarm clock the name of that band should tell you something.gung6843,knows talent, When is Ed new big hit comming out lol.

  • WOW,what a vintage clip!!

  • Gary Rossington is cool

    R.I.P. Ronnie Van Zant

  • Gaines, Collins, and Rossington: a force to be reckoned with, for sure!

  • notice no foot pedles or none of that bullshit there, them sumbitches didnt need'em

  • This is a great video, that showcases the talents of all three of these very talented guitarist with three distinctly different styles. They complimented each other perfectly, and it was awesome that they took turns on their own mini solo jam sessions. Anyone who gave this video a thumbs down needs to have their head examined....or maybe they just aren't breathing! Skynyrd ROCKS!!

  • 3 lead guitars

  • Greatest band of all time! Period! Sorry Beatles, Stones, Zeppelin, et. al. NO BAND in history had the commeraderie of this band, and NO band ever played as tight as this band. These guys were born to make music together. There is no denying their place in the wonderful world of music. Thank you for the great memories guys! You are in hearts forever!

  • I saw these guys 3 times before the plane crash. Best live band I ever saw in my life.

  • @89Ludwigs AMEN my friend THE BEST.

  • AWESOME!!!!!! Skynyrd forever !

  • hEy_ì_fÊel_sØ_lÖNêlÿ_tödÁy

  • SEE I AM LOYAL.STEVE VAI IS THE MAN

  • Aparently someone in the band like to havem them selves a little herb.

  • this solos are freakin amazing i can't believe what am i just seeing&listening now uuuhhhhuhuhu

  • that solos is freakin amazing i can't believe what am i just seeing uuuhhhhuhuhu

  • Those boys were some damn good pickers

  • FREEKIN AWESOME MAN!!!

  • Brought to you by budwieser, and the best bad

  • Just before the end.......

  • The best band and guitar trio this millenium!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Gary is my 2nd Favorite player, and SteveGaines would have it had not been for that Damn Airplane

  • @mcgaheefamily he still can

  • this is one of them songs they should of made a studio version out of, its that fuckin awseome!

  • I LOVE ME SOME SKYNYRD.THEY ARE THE BEST.

  • You can't say Gaines was better than the other two. Maybe on this night, but the way Rossington is playing, we have to assume that he is hammered. There are many performances out there you can view/hear where he and Collins carry Gaines. I think it just depends on the night.

  • @deepthreat I think Rossington tares it up on this song and this show

  • @deepthreat you really need to watch and listen to Steve,I love Gary and Allen, but I'am telling you if Steve would have lived he would have became something much bigger than Lynyrd Skynyrd.

  • @12889414

I watched and listened plenty - that's why I made the comment. No point in "IF"s. I deal in reality. BTW, if you think Gaines would have left Skynyrd and become bigger on his own, you must be related to him.

  • @deepthreat hey man I wasn't trying to make you mad or put you down I'am glad you deal with reality wished Icould I should have said in my opionion. sorry.

  • @12889414 and I wished I was related maybe i could play the guitar better sound like shit.

  • Greatest band ever...period!

  • 3 people need to be hunted down and lynched...

  • Ronnie's stage presence is unmatched to this day. He is the very definition of cool, calm and in control.

  • all i know is those good ole boys had something and they had it right they might have been a little wasted half the time but they never acted a fool on stage they kept composed and did their thing and did it well i think my generation would be alot better if skynyrd would had still been around during the 80 and 90s generations and im not talking about the second skynyrd im talking about the first if kids theses days could si down listen long enough theywould be like whats rap again

  • Lol Ronnie is drunk.

  • i have to agree that even though both rossington and collins where amazing, in about a year or two gaines probably would have been the best in the band and had been seen as one of the best ever, i mean he only played a year or two with them had he just like stevie ray or duane allman been able to live longer would have showed even more than how good he was

  • i have to agree that even though both rossington and collins where amazing, in about a year or two gaines probably would have been the best in the band and had been seen as one of the best ever, i mean he only played a year or two with them had he just like stevie ray or duane allman been able to live longer would have showed even more than how good he was

  • check out Ronnie at 6:19 lol

  • Steve Gains should be talked under the same breath as SRV!! Both should be jamming together today.........dammit that freakin plane crash!!

  • @WheelSlip8 them to together would be to much to handle just think if you threw Duane in that mix,the world would just explode.

  • LEON AND ARTIMUS NEVER GOT THE CREDIT THEY DESERVED.THAY WERE THE BACKBONEOF SKYNYRD.

  • Wonder what jimmie would have thought of this version?

  • @1963dt1 he would have said -Why There’s a Tear in My Eye - Thelma.

  • who said "not to metion acapulco gold" artimus?

  • @1963dt1 Ronnie

  • OKIE!

  • Acapolco gold and bud beer hahahahaha

  • AWESOME BAND!!!!!!!! VERY TIGHT!!

  • three of the best guitar players ever..........in one band. oh yeah, and the greatest songwriter ever to boot. PERFECTION

  • Stevie Gaines come dragging in at the request of his sister Cassie and the first look at Steve from the bands perspective was " Oh Shit...who is this cat and what dragged him down the street" he come in all disheveled and looking like a modern day crack head...only then was pot and 714 ludes...and from the first notes he played...They ALL knew Steve was IN!! I have had some cool priveledges hearing these stories first hand by various members and it never gets old!! Jacksonville Florida is home!

  • Look at Ronnie's grin at 4:43 watching Gary pulling the pinch harmonics... priceless.

  • Comment removed

  • @NdevilJ Ronnie loved his mules!!

  • can't hear bass at all 8(

  • man your shit hits back years back with me

  • Rossington just smokes at 4:05

  • @domin77148 Fuck yea.

  • Some changes in steve gaines's playing since seventy-six...but well worth the listen!

  • damn steve tore that slide up!

  • @sc96boy about as good as Duane Allman.

  • @12889414 well almost but Duane had a better tone and he was the holy grail of slide espec southern rock slide, but Steve could do anythg.

  • @MOSKII58 yeah I know I love Duane I think he is the best of all time, I put him first hendrix second.

  • @12889414 yeah i agree.... my Guitar players dozen are (in order) Duane, Hendrix, EVH,Page , Beck, Django,Townshend,Gilmour,Blackmore,Satch,Eric, & this guy..Steve Gaines..

  • @MOSKII58 come on bud you got to have Stevie Ray Vaughn in the top five.

  • @12889414 yes def forgot about SRV make it a bakers dozen (13) and i'll put Stevie Ray after Django.. these are just my personal favs i'm not saying they are the top 13 that would not make sense i just like the way these cats move me..its all just that - it ain't no contest as Dickie once said..right??

  • @MOSKII58 right on man,I can only pick my top three Duane,Hendrix,Stevie after that I can't make up my mind.

  • Gaines has always sounded tinny to me yet Rossington Collins have always played that nasty guitar that to me is the Lynyrd Skyrynd sound. This video rocks!

  • Steve Gaines, Gary Rosington, and Allen Collins could very well be the greatest guitar lineup ever. They had only 2 years together....just think if they were together 15 years the incredible songs that could have come out of them guys. This is a classic video.

  • @goheels0809champs Gaines was only in the band a little over a 16 months

  • @goheels0809champs suprised a tarhead knows talent when he hears it, just joking GO DUKE.

  • Gary is the definition of cool. Ronnie is the definition of Bad Ass, and Skynyrd is the definition of one F'N Awesome Band that can never be replaced!!

  • WOW

  • Saw the band with ronnie twice.Once at r.f.k.stadium.wiwith aerosmith. Not sure if steve was there.Pretty sure though. This was 1976.Then saw them on oct 20 1976 steve was there.they played the live album .Almost in the same order.Opening bands be bop delux& pure prarie legue...Still a great show

  • lil wayne, T.I, Lady Gaga ain't music, but Lynyrd Skynyrd sure the hell is!! Thanks for posting!!

  • I couldn't say which guitarrist played the coolest solo... I'd just get my self into trouble!

    HEY KIDS THIS IS MUSIC!!!

  • Does Stevie actually do a trill with the slide? Never seen that before or since . . .

  • Lil' bit of Duane, Lil' bit of Dickey, Whole lot of Steve!!

  • ok steve gaines definitely was a spectacular plus in lynyrd skynyrd the song that stands out especially in aint no good life they couldnt of picked or he picked them a better collaborator in there music together dude was talented for sure as in a tight band ronnie could walk away from the micherophone and steve would fall in no naturally what team work noke

  • rock an roll in it's purest form stolen from other musicians done there own way no pun intended i hate cliche's but it's how it goes the brithish bands been doing it for years we do it better though hell with dueling banjo's they had dueling lead guitars that's what im talking about, noke cleveland yyyyeeeaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

  • unbelievebl.!!!!

  • This song, IMO, was Gaines's masterpiece. It really was Steve Gaines at his best on that Les Paul.

  • Pure guitar magic!!!

  • classic skynyrd! AWESOME!

  • Sttevie Rocks.

  • Fuckin A+!

  • Great,Great,Great.

  • jimmie rodgers was alsome!!!! he influenced artist like elvis to skynyrd

  • I still think the best live version on video there is of this song is the one they blasted out at Knebworth in the summer of 76...;)

  • Ronnie was the fucki'n MAN

  • Totally Fuckin Awesome

  • As much as I think Collins and Rossington were very good guitarists, I really just think Stevie Gaines was in a completely different house.

  • Yep. Steve was absolutely ridiculous. It's such a damn shame the world lost him at such a young age. I think he could have redefined the way blues guitar was played the way Hendrix and Stevie Ray did.

  • The classy thing of it all is that Ross and Collins admitted as much about Stevie.

  • Yeah. I remember them basically saying he scared them into becoming better players. That is REALLY saying something.

  • @aa4018881 Considering where the rest of LS were at the time, what was said of Steve is no faint praise... Steve would have been a monster.

  • Agreed that Steve is great, but do not agree he is better than Allen.

  • yeah, he had some amazing guitar skills that man

  • @aa4018881 It was a lucky break for Skynyrd & Gaines to play together. He was an exceptional player/picker but do not forget that he walked into a signature sound architected by Gary & Allen. How convenient was that! Who would have ever known of Gaines had he not played in Skynyrd? Stevie had exceptional style and blended with Skynyrd to enhance electricity. Stevie wasn't in his own house man. He was playin in Lynyrd Skynyrd's House!

  • @aa4018881 : Amen. Collins was, in his day, a force of nature, but Gaines played with such precise passion...

I found my way here because I've been meditating a lot on the legacy of this great band and all I can say is, damn, that plane crash was a shame.

  • @aa4018881 ya he was in skynyrds house, thats what he wood say,U no that.

  • @aa4018881 for sho

  • @aa4018881 Steve was Funk, Motown, Blues and Country....Rossington and Collins were "BRITISH INFLUENCED" that why Steve was such a perfect fit...

  • @aa4018881 i might agree i am a big Steve gaines fan did you check out how he plays slide and also plays lead notes w/ his fingers and mixes it up very well done..its rare you see slide players do that, they usually just play slide full on, but Steve shows a very cool alternative way... you would think w/ 3 lead players it was crowded, but they all had their way of contributing and knew when to lay off...Ronnie was cool to allow them all to shine, he was a master band leader...

  • @MOSKII58 I've never seen anybody else play the slide that way I've tried it feels really strange.

  • fucking rights.

  • Was at this show in Asbury Park NJ. The Guy below who said the Gaines solo was easy probably never saw him do it live-very underrated guitarist

  • I've had more pretty women, than a passenger train can haul.... and that ain't all!

  • I saw the new version at the IL state fair. It was fun :)

  • i assume you was talin bout steave gains

  • haha that was funny

  • Then that would exclude you since you haven't moved that far up the evolution chain.

  • So you are saying that Steve Gains was NOT the original Geico caveman ? I'd like To see that little reptile try to play "I know a lttle" :p

  • I'd like to see you try and play it.

  • Your a fucking piece of shit for even thinking you could come close to being a person like him!Play it,& send it to me!

  • Do you REALLY need someone to explain this to you?

  • It looks to me like Ronnie was as much of a fan of his guitarists as the rest of us are . I noticed that he watches each one of their solos intently .

  • Those were his mules

  • @squabs217 Yeap and they better not miss a note.

  • Allen and Leon too of course! Thank godness we have Gary and Johnny

  • How cool would it be to see Ronny, Artimus, Steve and Casey together today.

    RIP Billy

  • does anyone think the piano solo is a little off time? just a bit in the begginning.

  • Steve scared the crap out of everyone to play better

  • killer, skynyrd rule

  • haha check out ronnie at 620

  • BRILLIANCE

  • Steve Gains slide Damn good!!!

  • Great start to this 4th of July weekend--as much of this era Skynyrd live as there is on YTube. Thanks again, Tony for this one!

  • 13 juillet 1973.... ostie de soirée!!

  • The irony is that their name was a variation of the name of a high school teacher who gave them a hard time for being in his opinion lazy, unfocused and directionless, yet as a band they were incredibly hardworking, focused and driven.

  • yeah dude thats a good way to look at it. they dont make bands they way they used to. and there certianly wont be another skynyrd. too many bands now a days are made in the studio.

  • The best T-Texas video available. Not sure why Freebird The Movie did not choose this over the one at Knebworth.

  • I agree. The sound quality at Knebworth wasnt great too. You couldnt really hear a lot of the solos, they were kind of quiet in the background. But this is smokin!

  • WOW! absolutely awesome. Thanks, Tony

  • "These intermissions have been brought to you by Budweiser"

    hilarious

  • T for Tennessee

  • I saw the band live in 1976 before losing Ronnie and Steve. It does not get much better even nearly 35 years later. Live on Skynard.

  • hahahahaha, acapulco gold!!

  • This songs just proves the fact that this was the most musically talented groups ever. If any of you have watched the Jimmie Rogers version which is good in its own right but entirely different for them to take

an already great song and make another great song out of it is awesome

  • Thanks Tony!!!

I am having a wonderful time listening to your video uplinks.!!!!!!!!!!!!

I first heard LS at age Twelve ( 1976) I will always cherish there music!

    Adam

  • Texas damn straight T
