I have 5 pitbulls and non have an attitude or a need ti fight. So people that sit around saying every pit has an urge to fight that's wrong!!! You have to take the time to train and excersize the dog for him to go in search if a fight. Now don't get me wrong, if a dog starts a fight a pit will most definitely finish it!

The surviving dogs of Michael Vick's house of horrors are just amazing dogs along with the people who fought to save them & rehabilitate them. Some now are wonderful family pets, some in foster care, some at Best Friends have passed their canine good citizenship test, others still working to pass it. What his dogs showed is they still love people after the horrors they went through and all rehabilitated to varying degrees because they are individuals and all had different traumas. Great dogs.

Volunteer locally with any pit bull rescue groups. Help to try to get tougher laws and stiffer penalties for anyone who attends or runs a dog fighting ring. Any of the large animal welfare organizations & sanctuaries are trying to help these dogs. Keep up to date with dog fighting arrests and laws and penalties.

@frank0067 That is not fair to say. It's just like everything else. There are good dog owners and there are bad dog owners. There are good people and bad people. Why put the blame on the dog? Educate the people about good dog ownership and there are already plenty of people who rescue and rehabilitate pit bulls and know exactly what they are doing and try to make sure the people that adopt them are responsible. That is what laws and fines and prison terms are for to ensure responsibility.

If you haven't yet, watch the National Geographic Dogtown specials called Saving the Michael Vick Dogs, Bright Futures and Dog Fight and the PBS special called Need to Know, The Dogs are All Right. They follow the rehabilitation of some of the Michael Vick dogs. Really good shows about amazing dogs who are very resilient and loving and the extraordinarily compassionate people who saved and rehabilitated them.

All dogs can be helped if we take the right steps, even the victims of dog fighting. There is no excuse to leave them behind, since they are the victims, not the criminals. If you want to help but can't take on the responsibility to rescue a dog yourself, then talk to a rescue center or shelter of your choice to see where you can help.
I've seen many people take on rescue dogs and do well. None of them struck me as competent to cure dogfight aggression. If you believe dogs are beaten into fighting, then you have not been around these dogs, so you haven't proved you can handle them. go on any dog forum and its full of people who taught a dog to sit and think they are Cesar Milan. Encouraging incompetents to take on ex fighting dogs is irresponsible and WILL lead to more dog attacks.

These dogs can be rehabilitated but hardly anyone knows how and most of the people who can do it can't be bothered. A bullet is the socially responsible answer in most cases. I don't know who you are but your words make me assume you are not who you want me to think you are.
@factorypresets Yes, I can rehabilitate both. The key elements are care AND leadership. You just have to target different behaviors. And these dogs ARE beaten into fighting. There are plenty of people with the ability to rehabilitate these dogs. That's what the rescue center are there for. They can be rescued, so don't give up on them by giving them a bullet. That's the cowardly way out. I don't know who you are, but you make me assume you don't have what it takes to take on a challenging dog.
@Tundra: It would be nice if we could stop dog fighting now obviously but all we can do is hope the police strongly enforce the laws that are passed to protect these dogs in dog fighting, get more people in prison, give more of these victims, the dogs, a second chance and hopefully have a new generation of people who have more compassion for animals (hopefully the majority) and who will find dog fighting or any forced animal fighting unacceptable as any kind of past time or way to make money.
And as for that whale that killed 3 times....I seen the videos, Personally I think he was just trying to play with his trainer's but being such a big animal, did'nt realize he could actually hurt her

One time, about 2 years ago I whent to the river a couple miles away with my boyfriend and of course I took my Dingo, While my boyfriend sat there for 5 hours fishing (and only catching 2 small fish) I tanned in the sun as my Dingo watched my boyfreind try and fail, try and fail some more to catch a good sized fish. She suddenly got up and waded in the water about chest deep...
And as for Dingo's, They are a very beautifull, loveing and smart animal, I've owned my Dingo mix for over 5 year's now and NEVER had anything bad happen, She even gives piggyback rides to all the small childeren in the naborhood And her parant's came straight from Australlia.....

I just got a Pitty mix little over a year ago, When he first got here he chased my four cat's, but with alittle bit of time and some training he does'nt even try to chase them. Now he grooms, eat's, sleep's and even tries to get my cat's to play tug-of-war with him!
M8 the dogs can all be rehabilitated. Just most people don't have what it takes to do it. And releasing dogs to people who are substandard is the same as training them to fight in the first place. 'Cept at least the fighter keep them on a chain. We mainly on the same side but have different priorities about how to solve the problem.

I have 5 pitbulls and non have an attitude or a need ti fight. So people that sit around saying every pit has an urge to fight that's wrong!!! You have to take the time to train and excersize the dog for him to go in search if a fight. Now don't get me wrong, if a dog starts a fight a pit will most definitely finish it!

The surviving dogs of Michael Vick's house of horrors are just amazing dogs along with the people who fought to save them & rehabilitate them. Some now are wonderful family pets, some in foster care, some at Best Friends have passed their canine good citizenship test, others still working to pass it. What his dogs showed is they still love people after the horrors they went through and all rehabilitated to varying degrees because they are individuals and all had different traumas. Great dogs.

Volunteer locally with any pit bull rescue groups. Help to try to get tougher laws and stiffer penalties for anyone who attends or runs a dog fighting ring. Any of the large animal welfare organizations & sanctuaries are trying to help these dogs. Keep up to date with dog fighting arrests and laws and penalties.

Don't blame the dogs - they are what their people make them. I have a huge rottie, a rescue from a swaggering, chain-wearing fool who kept the dog in a cage in the garage with direct sun, no A/C, and no exercise.
Smartest, sweetest dog I have ever known, and a buddy to our other dogs who are half her size. 115lbs, no fat, and she'll climb into your lap if you let her. Just wants to be loved. But if you want to come in the house without us, better have a pass from the Lord.

Educate the people about good dog ownership and there are already plenty of people who rescue and rehabilitate pit bulls and know exactly what they are doing and try to make sure the people that adopt them are responsible. That is what laws and fines and prison terms are for to ensure responsibility.

the best way we can knock dog fighting out is to make sure youre selling puppies to decent people, my sister breeds rotties and before she sells any pups she checks the owners house out and all. dont be to afraid to ask your buyers as they will know you are a proper breeder and most of all a proper person.

If you haven't yet, watch the National Geographic Dogtown specials called Saving the Michael Vick Dogs, Bright Futures and Dog Fight and the PBS special called Need to Know, The Dogs are All Right. They follow the rehabilitation of some of the Michael Vick dogs. Really good shows about amazing dogs who are very resilient and loving and the extraordinarily compassionate people who saved and rehabilitated them.

All dogs can be helped if we take the right steps, even the victims of dog fighting. There is no excuse to leave them behind, since they are the victims, not the criminals. If you want to help but can't take on the responsibility to rescue a dog yourself, then talk to a rescue center or shelter of your choice to see where you can help.

I've seen many people take on rescue dogs and do well. None of them struck me as competent to cure dogfight aggression. If you believe dogs are beaten into fighting, then you have not been around these dogs, so you haven't proved you can handle them. go on any dog forum and its full of people who taught a dog to sit and think they are Cesar Milan. Encouraging incompetents to take on ex fighting dogs is irresponsible and WILL lead to more dog attacks.

@factorypresets I'm not saying everyone can do it for your fighting dogs either. I'm talking about rescue centers. There are professionals out there that can help. You can't just kill a dog when there is help. And there is plenty of help. And I have been around plenty of dogs who have been used for fighting. They are all abused in terrible ways. As I've repeatedly stated, it isn't just about teaching a dog to sit either. You've already wasted that one on me before.

I thought, its the human way to help the breed. BUT AFTER I WATCHED CESAR MILLAN and PITBULL & PAROLEES. It change my persfective about how to help the breed. They need dog psychologist. Cesar even said that toy dogs are even more agressive than pitbulls.Rescue centers are ignorant, there are ways to help the dogs

And I say that's bullshit because they can, it's just a little more difficult and they don't want to spend the TIME nor the MONEY to do it. As far as im conserned the shelters are just plain LAZY.

Unless and until people get over the mistaken idea that these dogs fight out of fear of their owners, the responsible approach to rescued fighting dogs is to put them down. People don't wanna hear it, but that fantasy is what is killing most of the dogs that are rescued.

You said rehabilitating a beaten dog showed you could rehabilitate a fighting dog. You argued back against the notion that these dogs are not beaten into fighting. Now you backing down? These dogs can be rehabilitated but hardly anyone knows how and most of the people who can do it can't be bothered. A bullet is the socially responsible answer in most cases. @factorypresets Yes, I can rehabilitate both. The key elements are care AND leadership. You just have to target different behaviors. And these dogs ARE beaten into fighting. There are plenty of people with the ability to rehabilitate these dogs. That's what the rescue center are there for. They can be rescued, so don't give up on them by giving them a bullet. That's the cowardly way out. I don't know who you are, but you make me assume you don't have what it takes to take on a challenging dog.

@Tundra: It would be nice if we could stop dog fighting now obviously but all we can do is hope the police strongly enforce the laws that are passed to protect these dogs in dog fighting, get more people in prison, give more of these victims, the dogs, a second chance and hopefully have a new generation of people who have more compassion for animals (hopefully the majority) and who will find dog fighting or any forced animal fighting unacceptable as any kind of past time or way to make money.

One time, about 2 years ago I whent to the river a couple miles away with my boyfriend and of course I took my Dingo, While my boyfriend sat there for 5 hours fishing (and only catching 2 small fish) I tanned in the sun as my Dingo watched my boyfreind try and fail, try and fail some more to catch a good sized fish. M8 the dogs can all be rehabilitated. Just most people don't have what it takes to do it. And releasing dogs to people who are substandard is the same as training them to fight in the first place. 'Cept at least the fighter keep them on a chain. We mainly on the same side but have different priorities about how to solve the problem.
