  • @handy827586 my units are 27'' wide x 31'' deep. do i only need to change these: (2) 18 3/4" x 28" ( 3/4" plywood) and (1) 28" x 28" ( 3/4" plywood) do i only need to change the 2nd measurement to both of these to 31''??? Thank you!

  • ATTENTION: If you are planning on getting brand new appliances delivered and installed, there is a 99% chance the installers will NOT put the machines on homemade pedestals because of liability issues.

  • Thanks for the video, my problem is the whole thing vibrates big time, even with a rug, my basement floor is very very smooth. any ideas

  • I just got done building mine. That thing is solid. Home Depot did all my cuts, you should go in the mornings for quality cuts. The older guys work the morning shift and the inexperienced guys work the second shift. I had no trouble building, just followed the video. I used nails and wood screws because I didn't have a nail gun. I also used floor mats from the dollar store to cover the top.

Total cost for me was $35 for one stand. Will make the dryer stand when I can find one on sale.

  • Thank you for this video! I just got done making mine for my washing machines that are being delivered tomorrow!

  • I completed this project last weekend. Total cost for me was about $100 ($85 for lumber & screws + $15 for paint). Home Depot cut all the pieces to size. I ended up using wood screws since I didn't have a nail gun.

Thanks again for this video...I saved about $300 by building my own!

  • Hello! Great how to video. Did you bolt the bottom of the washer to the top of the stand?

  • @whiskeyman2112

No, The carpet keeps it from moving.

  • @handy827586 Yon need to glue the stand with pl300 or a constitution caulk or it will shake apart. other wise great idea. Deck Screws are probably a good idea too and not drywall screws

  • @whiskeyman2112 Now the fun part. Lifting the heavy washing machine onto the stand.

  • Clear Creek High School Wood working class made my pedestals out of oak and stained them! They are awesome!

  • I built this, it was really easy to assemble. Home Depot just cut all the pieces to size. Ultimately, Sears recommended I not use it, due to the lack of holes to secure the washer levels (concern for vibration and movement). So now I have this big thing sitting in my basement! LOL

  • I contacted the local school Shop teacher and I am considering having the students build these for me as a project.

  • Nice. May put one together on vacation.

Could never bring myself to buy the ones from Sears. Thanks for the video I'll post when I finish.

  • Thanks a lot!!!

  • I used a piece of carpet that I had from the same room.

  • This is just awesome. I am now ready to begin my project and I could not be more pleased. I was wondering what type of vibration absorbtion mat you used?

  • Hi, do you have a materials list and specifications for size? Your video was very informational. Thanks,

  • Thx for the vid. FYI $35 total at Home Depot! Mine are 3" shorter due to space limit. Used 1 sheet plywood @ $19 (& 1 scrap piece for 1 of the back panels I already had at home), one 16' 2x6 @ $9, & one 12' 2x6 @ $7. Had enough nails at home (& no nail gun), carpet scraps for the tops, & leftover paint (my 6-year old daughter painted them). Rubber from cheap workout flooring to line the underside & reduce vibration. They are solid. Used car jack to place them, didn't have to disconnect them.

  • Thank you SO much for this video! We just got a front load set and didn't want to pay $200 PER pedestal (ridiculous)... This will be awesome!! :) I also love the storage underneath! Great!

  • THANK YOU for this video! I just finished building my stands with very little difficulty. I got the wood cut at Lowe's and attached the plywood to the 2" x 6"s with drywall screws. My only problem was not accounting for the dryer exhaust that meant I needed to find 3" of space - I moved the back panel to the inside of the 2" x 6" bracket and it worked great. I'm 6'2" and the stands put my washer and dryer at the perfect height. I'm THRILLED. Total project cost for 2 stands ~$80. Thanks again!

  • @cathywalt Thanks for your response. Glad I could help!

  • Interesting, but makes sense. Putting a stand on the washer and dryer BOTH makes sense. I never quite understood people who didn't like front loading washing machines "because they have to bend over". Even with a top-loading washer, wouldn't you have to "bend over" to use the dryer, anyway?

  • I may have to slightly increase the overall size to be 30"X30", so I'll need to adjust the cut sizes of the plywood and the 3 braces accordingly. My problem is that yours is 28"X28" and yet, you say your back piece is only 26 1/2" long. Shouldn't it be 28"? I THINK I'll need to cut as follows: 30x30 (top) 18 3/4x30 (sides AND back), 3 braces - 28 1/2. The 6 supports will still be 17 1/4. Can you please check my math here? Thanks for responding.

  • If I had to make one 28" by 31" what would the measurements be on the plywood and 2x6's? Thanks!

  • will the size of these stands work for all front loaders in the us . what brand front loaders did you build these for?

  • My brand is a Whirlpool Duet.

  • @handy827586

is yours a 4.0 cu. ft. Duet? I have the 4.0 cu.ft. WFW9050XW washer but its dimensions are supposed to be the same as the 4.0 cu. ft. Duet.

  • @KermieCorleonie Yes mine is a 4.0 Duet Model # WED9400SW2

  • Click on drop down bar under video that says Material List.

  • I'm pregnant and need the stands! THANK YOU FOR THIS REALLY! I'm going to get the wood cut at home depot and have my dad put it together! My hubby and I don't own tools. Lol.

Is it one size fits all?

  • I would say yes, because I measured the pedestals at the store.

    Thank you for your comment.

  • We built this the other day exactly as per design except for using screws instead. Fantastic. And for anyone unsure about it's load bearing capabilities, don't worry...this thing is a tank and easily handle the weight. Thanks handy827586

  • The washer does vibrate, but will never walk off of the stand.I put a piece of carpet on top of my stand and it never moved a 1/16 of an inch. Also bolt both stands together if you are going side by side. Remember to put the washer on the left hand side so the doors open left and right. Thanks for your feedback, I enjoy knowing that I can help others.

  • Does your washer vibrate on the stand? I've heard that front loaders vibrate badly. Could it 'walk' and fall off? I'm planning to buy a front loader and I like the idea of building a stand rather than paying big bucks for one. Thanks for sharing.

  • I opted to install 3 vertical lag bolts between the inner two braces (so 6 total), to make it easy to disassemble, if needed.

1 caveat for others that aren't wood-workers: I went to Lowes, and my vertical 2x6s ended up being 'short' - by about 1/4" each. Called up the store and was told that those cuts they do are rip cuts only - not precision. Thus, you may want to get them close, but longer, so you can adjust at home. Great video - 5 stars!! Thanks handy827586 :D

  • To answer your question about the weight. I have a Whirlpool Duet washer and dryer set and the weight does not seem to be an issue. For added support, try bolting both pedestals together as a single unit side by side. As for the mounting bracket for the Samsung, I am not familiar with that manufacturer. My unit has four adjustable legs for leveling. I did not bolt them to the pedestals. Thank you for your comment. I am glad to get feedback and hear that I am able to help others

  • I made this pedestal last night; was fairly easy to do. Instead of penny nails, I used drywall screws, and some small wood screws on the sides (easier if you're working alone) - one per beam on the side.

More remarkable is that some washers, such as my Samsung, require a hole (I don't know the part name) for the bolts to screw/attach into. Ultimately, I wasn't able to use my pedestal (!!) because of this, but I wonder if you could help advise a modification?

  • What about the weight limits of this design? For example, my new Samsung will be here and weighs over 280lbs... the lady at Sears suggested cement blocks bolted to plywood (charming).

  • This video is EXACTLY what I've been looking for...you've saved me $100's..many thanks.

  • I built a set for my new LG 2101 washer/dryer. It worked out perfectly. Home Depot cut all the lumber for me at no cost and the cuts were right on. I did not have an air gun so I glued and screwed the sides, top and back. My wife claims it could hold an elephant. I had some spare carpet lying around, which made a nice cover for the top panel. Thank you handy827586, for the video!

  • I used a piece of carpet that I had left over from the same room. I stapled it onto the top plywood.

  • Very helpful thank you for posting! I do have one question. What material did you use on the top of the pedestal stands?

  • GreatJob. about how much did they cost to make?

  • $48.00 for both, I purchase the material at Home Depot and they cut the plywood for me at No cost. Thank You for your inquiry.
