Man, I thought it was stupid to own a useless 4x4 over here in the states...
I couldn't even imagine owning one in overseas with the price of gas and how thin the streets/parking spaces are....from what you just showed me in this video, I have completely lost respect for any large suv driver. Period.
The guy is pulling out of the junction , but he gets stopped by traffic . Also notice the cycle lane markings are broken , as to indicate cars can cross the cycle lane there; There is nothing wrong with this guy's driving , he dosen't cause danger to anyone. You need to be more patient.
The road was clear when the driver started the manoeuvre and drove with all due care and attention. Other drivers had sufficient manners and courtesy to leave a gap to let him join the traffic but once again the aggressive cyclist (who makes no contribution to maintaining the road) stamps his feet, throws his toys out of the pram, has a hissy-fit and claims victimisation! Nothing changes!
@normangibson : no the road was not clear when he started his manoeuvre! If it was he'd be in there wouldn't he !?! If the cars didn't move on, he'd of sat there and sat there and sat there.
Of course, you, on your moral crusade, think that I don't drive a car and pay tax & insurance. Look at my other videos...
Please think before flaming; the ignorant drivers and cyclists ruin the cycling experience for everyone in Cambridge.
However, your reply demands a response. Firstly, I reject your assertion that I was flaming; my comments were reasonable. Secondly, I am not alone in my views. Thirdly, I am a lifetime and professional motorcyclist I am fully aware of the invisibility of the lone rider. Fourthly, anyone who rides with a camera clearly demonstrates that they are the individual with an agenda. Finally, you pay no tax on your bicycle.
1. Flaming; "Stamps his feet, throws his toys" etc...
That is just plain flaming.
The guy pulled out in my path and I had to wait. There are plenty more examples on utube of drivers totally losing it because they were blocked by something or other.
The term here is inconsiderate rather than dangerous.
2. There is always someone else with the same views as you; that does not make them valid or correct. The law is on my side, for both cyclists, pedestrians and drivers. I don't need a licence, insurance or pay road tax to abide by, and read, the Highway Code.
3. I am a motorcyclist, I wouldn't call myself a "professional" - I'm not an examiner, courier, police rider, paramedic or whatever you need to be to call yourself "professional", but yes, a motorcyclist is at higher risk of injury than a car driver.
@rforracing Under UK law he is obligated to wait until it is safe to proceed and not hinder other road users. This does include slowing other traffic. Technically, legally this is driving without due care and attention and without consideration
okay....5 second delay, and he was about 70% into his lane, and had to wait 4 seconds for the car to move up. he wasnt even cutting off the car approaching.
@Kepahl The vehicle must wait until there is a gap and he can join the main road without causing any swerving or slowing to the other traffic on the road. So edging out like this and blocking the cyclist's route is what is wrong.
its a dotted line isnt it.... whre i am from you are allowed to cross a dotted line... unless it is a carpool or bus lane and you arent one/ arent carpooling
@cpmisalive translation: "Excuse me brother, the only reason why he was in there was because the road was busy and he was waiting for some old boy to let him out or find a gap. I'm a fathead" :)
I know this is Great Briton not because of anything besides if this was New York or Chicago they would just run you over and keep going. I am an American and I will tell you you ride your bike in middle of the road you will get ran over in cities like New York or Chicago. I went to Chicago a couple of years ago and witnesses someone getting ran over and they died, and they just put a tarp over the body and waited for a white van to come by loaded the body in the back and drove away...
Last time I was in the NYC, I stayed at the Excelsior in a suite overlooking Central Park, the chauffeur, after telling him where I'm from, told me how dangerous the roads were and especially bad news for cyclists! He also talked about muggings and car-jackings etc. and my thoughts went to playing GTA4 rather than being a tourist...
What was that? - a car pulls out to get into the busy road so f-ing what? It happens to be a 4x4 - so f-ing what again, why don't you show all the other cars doing that all day long - just wasted 30 seconds of my life watching this crap from someone trying to make a point
You're right, I couldn't really give a fuck if it was a twat in a bright yellow M3 convertible, I've nothing against 4x4 drivers - it is merely a statement of fact.
The point here is to show how inconsiderate drivers are around Cambridge. Yes, you're right, there are plenty of them, I don't tend to cycle with a camera unlike mailpauljonescouk does.
Hehehe, lucky for you the video was only 23 seconds then.
I am a car driver, and there are some shocking videos on here which has made me more aware of cyclists. However, I think this particular video is a bit pathetic. There was traffic, and the car would have sat there all day before someone let him out if he did not creep forward. And was it really that hard wait/go around? As you say, we share the road.
No, I didn't ride headlong into this inconsiderate driver, or overtake on the pavement, or overtake around the 4x4 - my driving & riding is of a better standard than that. I did wait, the only sane course of action.
The camera is wide angle and in reality the cars are much closer. It seems some people are incapable of the smallest measure of patience and dont think twice about endangering someones life in order to arrive at their destination a few seconds sooner.
I cycle everyday and 4x4s road safety record is shocking. Saying that we have to share the road and what happened there wasnt anything to get mad about. I agree though i see much worse and dangerous drivers than cyclists.
The cyclist is clearly approaching and the motor traffic's hardly moving, so why drive out part way and obstruct the cycle lane? Beats me. Just feels impolite.

This is normal traffic behavior. The driver of offending SUV was likely tired of waiting for an opening in the road. So, he/she could
have been thinking the same thing as this video's poster, about those drivers who had just passed in front of him.
Stress... don't let it get to ya.

I see this a lot. It annoys me. You're either in the drive or side road, or on the main road. There's no middle ground!
