What the hell is "thrash?" I finally got the meaning of the term clag, but the actions I have seen on videos with thrash in the description is not self explanatory. Where I come from "thrash" is what your father did to you when you f***ed up.
Diesels are really bad. They are slow and polute a lot. They are only good for things where electrifcation is not possible such as certain tracks at railyards where the loading and unloading of goods is done and during construction and maintenance work on railway lines. Any major line should be electrified. That's how it is in Sweden. Most is electrified. I rarely see diesels where I drive.
@Quasi84 pollute a lot? Do you honestly think that diesel trains worldwide even begin to compare with factories and coal fired power plants in china and india and such like? I really think people ought to begin to get a bit of a sense of proportion, I really do.
And it may be possible in some countries for power to be obtained largely from renewable energy, but in many countries, where is the power going to come from? nuclear or coal.
@AndreiTupolev It's polluting right in the face of people. The air at train stations is full of dangerous particles, beyond hazardous levels. They measure that kind of stuff but don't do anything about it. Also, what it's like in India is not up for discussion since if we don't do anything about our own polluters then how do you expect other countries to do the same? Since I don't live in India then I can't lobby for that there.
@Quasi84 yeah but these old class 37s are pretty much gone from the mainline now, its only infrequent enthusiast railtours or the very occasional engineering train that uses them. nothing we use in the UK smokes like this anymore.
Give me a 66 anyday. These old 37`s are well over rated. ive had about 30 for haulage, so i know what im on about.

Why don't these British people ever blow their horns? I can see a level crossing, but no horn!!!
NVergilio 1 month ago
@NVergilio Because in England we can afford crossing barriers

@ricksclick... 'thrash' is when you have to work a loco hard... put your foot down... trashing the engine
nevillebloodybartos 3 months ago
@nevillebloodybartos Thank you. I thrash a lot of things.
ricksclick 3 months ago
@ricksclick thrash is that periodic grunting sound the locos making. Trucks do it to when starting up but not nearly to this scale.

@Quasi84 That's because you're driving on the road and the trains are on the railway tracks. Just sayin'.

@beeble2003 I'm driving on electrified tracks.

I'm one of those cheering! I remember that like it was yesterday. We were totally withered at those slips, on what was a bone dry rail.
