  • Peter, I loved this story. I could relate to your main character completely and remember when I was permitted my own room.I am 21 now, but it just reminded me of home. Charlie reminded me of my little brothers too. Thank you for sharing your talents with us.

  • I can't tell you how much I enjoy listening to your stories. I put them on while I'm working. It's a lovely way to pass the time.

    Thank you!

  • The story was nice all the way through, but I think it shined with the girl's worrying and contingency planning about going off with a boy and with her interaction with Charlie at the end. Then the message at the very end was especially clever. I was also impressed with your ability to read aloud for such a long time with only a couple of stumbles. Thank you for sharing it with us.

  • More more please. I loved that... really please can you read some more stories for us? :))

  • A wonderful, heart warming, story! Hopefully we will get another one of your stories in the future. Thanks for sharing with us Peter.

  • A worthwhile ending, great voices, and I learned a bit about Frank Sutcliffe and Whitby. Thank you for sharing this story, Peter.

  • What a fantastic and endearing story. I really enjoyed listening to it! Thank you for sharing! :)

  • I'm sitting here on a cold, snowy day and really enjoying your stories. Thank you.

  • Dear Peter,

A hot choclate in my hand, my young dog sleeping ón my feet, still recovering from jubilant playing in the afternoon, and from the sounds and movements he makes, I know he is still running wildly around in his lovely own dreams. The fire burning and occasionally I put a new block on. The noise when I open the stove's door, awakening him for a moment. Lifting his head shortly from the floor before he decides to get up and take over my easy chair again.

  • So sweet, and so evocative of the times. Thanks for sharing it. ( and nobody else but you could read it aloud as well ) I so enjoy all your videos!

  • Very entertaining! Please continue!

  • I could listen to you read forever! I love the way you write and read your own projects.

  • I absolutely loved it, you are quite a talented writer! I would love for you to read another one of your stories again! Thank you so much!

  • he is reading a book, good book though...Loveley!

  • Peter explained in part one that the creative writing class he took involved getting them into book form, which you can do at a printer's. He was the author of the spiral bound book you see glimpses of in the video.

  • wonderful! it was so great.

  • It has been a long time since I've heard anyone read a good story aloud. You're quite the storyteller Peter and I look forward to more of your childhood recollections.

  • Peter, I really enjoyed your story. It was riveting, and played with and played off of expectations quite well. Reminds me of a BBC drama. Is this part of a novel? The characters seem very well developed and I think they want to keep walking about and doing things. I'd love to see more fiction. You could also post text if you don't want to use up time reading it, but I prefer to hear you read it as well.

  • Lovely story. I stayed up late to hear the whole thing. Thanks for posting it. :)

  • Absolutely lovely. :)

  • I was in suspense over what the gift would be that she'd bring home from the shore, never would've guessed it was going to be growth and change - Bravo! I'd love to hear more short stories about this family too.

  • hahaha "She's been going with boys." Another great story. You really capture moments well with your words. Taking time with the details about the putting on the shoes and it all coming out in the wash. I was lucky to only have to share a room till I was about 10. Well done.

  • You should consider writing a book. I'm serious....I think it would be great!

  • I finally found a night with time to listen to your story. I loved listening to it. Thank you for sharing it.

    Wendy

  • Fantastic as always! How much do we take for granted today like having our own room. Keep up the great work!

  • Thank you for a wonderful story! I think you did a great job of capturing that sort of childhood limbo we all go through when we hit our early teens. It made me feel good to hear it, and I think there aren't enough stories like this! I really admire you and your stories, both fact and fictional!

  • What a wonderful story. Thank you for sharing it with us.

  • I absolutely loved listening to this. You are truly a great story teller. It was like I was there...you should write a book

  • Great story Peter. You made me laugh at times and felt sad as well. You have a lovely command of your character and enjoyed it so. Again thank you. By the way, is there a continuation to the story. Would really love to know what happens to her. She sounds like a very lovely girl.

  • Suicide? Heavens no! I would love to listen to all the stories you care to tell. They are just wonderful. Thank you for taking the time to tell them. Now, have a nice cup of tea for your throat!

  • AWESOME! wonderful story! I loved it!

Thank you Peter! I watched the whole thing :)

Very nice , I could see the events as you spoke them from the story. Nice ending Sir! You are great, you should get awards for school books learning guild.

    Very nice !

Thank you, my daughter enjoyed it!

  • Well done! Captivated all the way through. Great ending too. Regards to you

  • Wonderful job, Peter. Keep those stories coming. I prefer the real life stories, though. I'm waiting with baited breath for more... Long life and happiness to you and your's. Much love...

  • Wonderfull story Peter! You were able to make me feel like I was right there with Thelma, both at home and on her trip to the beach.

  • I loved your story. A charming tale written with great talent. Did you write more? Please consider reading others in the future. You have brought me great joy. My deepest thanks xoxoxo

  • Dear Peter, thank you so much for this... I listened to every word, on the edge of my seat. Please don't say you won't do any more stories. These are delightful!!! More, more, more!

  • By the way, in my message above I didn't mean that the story was childish, just that it reminded me of the sort of content I enjoyed as a kid, like books by Enid Blyton, etc., with children going on expeditions and dealing with family and peers.

  • I watched both parts, and the ending was great! The story reminded me of a lot of books I used to read when I was a kid.

  • Thanks Peter. What a mind you have! I especially like the kind father character and wonder if this fictional father is like your own.

  • i wish i had an imagination like you do... i could never write a story... i really enjoyed listening to you. i had a good time =)

  • brilliant hope you do more in the future :)

  • Very nice Story. I liked it

  • I really love Charlie and Richard, they're my favorite charaters. Nice story, I really liked the ending. ^_^

  • Peter, really good work. It brought back such memories and I am slightly younger but I still seem to remember that ere. Thank you for doing in in two parts so its was twice the pleasure.

  • its good that you have the video in two sections so that you can watch them if u dont have too much time to spare.

Are you thinking of doing some more stories or going back to the usual blogging? i like the stories best :) thanks peter

  • Again it was great! You really should write a story about your life!

  • absolutley wonderful

  • Wow, I did not realize it was so recent. Peter you never cease to amaze me. I know you have heard this many times but I will repeat it anyway, you are a true inspiration and a great asset to mankind. I hope you continue to share your life's story and readings with us.

  • not only that, but he's really cool. To use a phrase Peter used the other day...he's the bee's knees. The cat's pajamas. Or in the lingo of my youth, he's groovy. But in any lingo...he's definitely cool. :-)

  • Very nice i enjoyed that

  • I'm not a big fan of hour long vlogs, but this was quite enjoyable. Thank you.

  • Great story. You are a wonderful writer and story teller. How old were you when you wrote this story?

  • I am new to youtube and just discovered you when preparing for work this morning. You can bet I will be listening to all of your clips...thank you for your great stories and your wonderful soothing voice!

  • Sir, another lovely story! Thank you so much. I went back to school myself and took a similar class a few years back. However, my "creative" writing was no where near as creative as yours. I think you did a great job writing from the perspective of a 13-yr old girl.

I hope you tooks some breaks when you read this story! I know how hard it is to read something clearly and straight through for over an hour.

    Delightful. As usual. :-)

    thanks again

  • took. I meant took. keyslip. ;-)

  • That was brilliant Peter, thank you. In your story Thelma (very kind) reminds me of my Mum and Henrietta (bit tarty, selfish and goes for the wrong sort of man) reminds me of her sister, Enid!!

  • i love these story readings as well you should read all you've written.. and also be proud of what you have written theyre great stories.

  • Don't stop the stories! I love them...thank you

  • That was lovely...thanks for sharing it with us.

  • Love your stories. How about a book of 'short stories' from you. Or just a 'little' book called...what else..."Good Evening YouTubers." Since you have said that this experience has changed your life...I would buy a book and read about the who, what, when, where, why and how of your experience. Libraries would buy it. Love listening to your storytelling voice too! Wonderful! Take it easy though. Has to be overwhelming getting thousands of e-mails every day!!! Thanks Peter. :-)

  • I like your idea of a book of his stories because I enjoy reading the stories almost as much as I enjoy listening to them. And I hope one day, Peter or his tech pals will be able to put some of these delightful vlogs on dvd as well.

Libraries would buy them and so would I.

  • I loved the last line! "Lifes not the same all the way thru like the name in a stick of rock."

    My motto: "Change is Coming"

    Thanks Peter

  • Excellent, first rate story and so beautifully read. Thank you.

  • You must be thirsty after all that reading. It was great. I liked that the story turned out to be more about the family than the day at the shore.

  • It was a good one, Peter.

  • I loved it! Listened to part 1 and 2 in one go, sitting at work in California. I guess I'll have to work late tonight to make up the time! :)

  • Top notch.

  • that was a good bedtime story. thanks

  • Nice story, skillfully constructed. Thank you.

  • I loved it, thank you for telling :> It really is more descriptive than anything else, but still very enjoyable!

  • I really could listen to your voice for hours!

Nice to see you're from Leicester too, my home town is about 6,000 miles away now!

  • Thank you Peter

  • I couldn't get all the way thru part 2. For some reason, I can't get it to play all the way thru. So far I was enjoying what I did hear of your story.

  • I had to listen to both parts straight through. What a lovely story and perfect reading. I'm glad I found your channel Peter.

  • Thanks again Peter!
