Um... What LCMS group would allow a contemporary version of this? Hell, I am formerly LCMS now ELCA and even MY high church congregation would not allow this!
I can definitely understand what you mean. Look up this hymn again on Youtube and go to the very first video. It's the traditional version of this wonderful hymn and it is guaranteed to give me chills! I am a bit deprived of this quality of music, since my LCMS church is very contemporary. They are much more likely to embrace this David Crowder version than a traditional hymn, as sad as that is for me to say.
@putzilla1286 Don't get me wrong... I'm a tattooed, spiked hair, hearse driving lesbian. I love industrial and punk! Yet when I'm serving as Acolyte each Sunday, I wait til I get back into my car to hear drums and guitars.
God Bless, Putzilla! If you're even in Hoboken, NJ... stop by Saint John the Baptist!
Way to blast it... in the car! I know what you mean, though. I listen to music as diverse as Times Square, but I don't want to hear something poppy and fake in church. I think (and I think a lot of people feel this way) that authenticity is key. Authentic music, emotion, and praise - no matter what style, is the best way to talk to God!
