Oh, man, I love this song. While stationed at an army missile base in 1970, and we dropped acid one weekend, and soared to the stars. This song lasted centuries, or a second, I can't remember which. But when I would come back from extra-galacticnesses, there it was again, beckoning me back to this strange planet. As Joe Cocker sang, "Once while traveling among the stars, this lovely planet caught my eye." - "...so down and down and down we go..."
i know the book ur talking about, i got it as i gift for somebody about 20 years ago. thats the only place iv seen these acoustic song. i wish i had kept it!!
@vCRoNiqulz Hey I dont know which album excatly it is off of BUT! I found this song off a CD that came with a book called. Voodoo Child: The Illustrated Legend of Jimi Hendrix. When you purchased the book you got the CD my brother had it I found the CD and I love it! Its just him and his 8 track recording nothing more you hear him smoking and turning his music pages lol So maybe you can search for that CD that came with it! I really wanna buy the CD also I have the book but no CD :/
@JimmyPage97 Well I guess it wouldn't count for THIS particular version (since like the album says, it sounds like "Hedrix. By Himself") But anyways I heard that Electric Lady Land was an album basically started and completed by Jimi on his own.
I WONT GO AS FAR AS SOME OF THESE PPL AND CALL HIM GOD BUT THE MAN COULD PLAY A GUITAR.....TAKE U DIFFERENT PLACES WITH IT.......UNDERWATER OUTER SPACE NEXT TO THE FIRE.......NICE TUNE
hey wanna know a secret? the unforgiven2 and children of the damned both sound very different from this song. wanna know another secret? it's not a damned secret. and the guy below me misspelled wil wheaton's name!
can someone help me, I'm sure I heard 1983 in a jeans advert ages ago but nobody seems to remember it! I know crosstown traffic was used in a different one. does anyone know what I'm on about?
Who the F*CK cares about Jimmi's religion. Who cares wether he was a sinner or not? All I care about him is the music he made, and about that sinner stuff, how can you possibly make evil to another person by drinking a bottle of booze or getting high? I really don't get the meaning of the word sin for religious people.
This is such a great song - Jimi walking the outer style. I like this awesome version just as much as I like the other great version on Electric Ladyland, too...
"A musician, if he is a messenger, is like a child who hasn't been handled too many times by man, hasn't had too many fingerprints across his brain. That's why music is so much heavier than anything you ever felt "- Jimi Hendrix 1969
James Marshall Hendrix, when I die ,I hope to meet you ,my good brother...Jesus Christ first of course...am a very strong follower of he and you...men without sin...
@flathead59 Many religous people say Jimi Hendrix sinned alot. Sex, drugs, booz, rock n roll, hippies, and he did not follow a religoin. But I belive that he was perfect.
Personally I like to see where they came from with the song. I like this precisely because 1983 on Electric Ladyland is one of the most profound songs in the entire rock catalog. Yeah, this is sloppy, but you can hear it, he had it in his head already. My disagreement with releases like this is greedy people make a lot of money issuing things Jimi never would've felt comfortable releasing. But, this intro lick IS mighty fuckin' tasty.
I feel the same. I prefer Jimi's concerts and stuff like this more than studio's. It feels more real. You also get to hear : mistakes, improvesations, ect.
if a mistake is intentional is it still a mistake?
Zen. I think Hendrix was referring to pretty much everything in life as a general conscious awareness of the human condition. How we are evolving with our technology. Not to die but to be reborn, reincarnation, transhumanism. cybernetics, mickey mouse. people take Hendrix lightly because he was into drugs, haha he was just trippin' right? no. in 1983 love drowned in cash near skyscraper lane. care was cremated. politicians became actors. G I Joe
Well, I guess mistake was the wrong word. I guess what I was trying to get across was the concerts where he was tuned differently, played faster/slower, put more emphasis and soul into a certain part of the song, ect ect
Like pasta and tomato sauce; pastries and coffee/tea; butter and baked potato--this song was made to be used with a water/aqua visual since there are so many water-refererences in the lyrics! Great genius work in adding the 2 together-- :)
Yes it is on a really hard album to get ahold of. The only way I have found it is with a book, called Voodoo Child: The Illustrated Legend of Jimi Hendrix. It comes with the Book, CD is called Jimi Hendrix by Himself: The Home Recordings
It now appears that Hendrix was killed by drowning in red wine. Is this another enigmatic e.g. of a musical genius seeming to have a glimpse of his own future demise?
Amazing and beautiful early take on a tune that of course was one his most realized projects on any album. Interesting how he hasn't yet arrived at the chords for the bridge (D-A-C-G) --quickly stolen by David Gilmour for comfortably numb--
but Jimi's got the hovering section mapped nicely. Tuned down almost a whole step.
My favorite song from my favorite artist, since I was a little girl. I've never heard this version though, I'm more used to the polished studio version.
I knew some would refuse to accept the opinions of others. Btw,you CAN hear him turning pages as well as far too many aspects of this song are Totally "off",from the lyrics, picking, singing & Tempo, all of it-so hey if this is just him all loaded in a basement, thats great but be honest...is this the sound you all want from him? Why didn't Jimi just release ALL his music sounding this way & hey if you guys like your heros, performing in an incoherent stupor
okay i am not trying to judge you or your opinions just your reasoning and points. this song was originally from the album Hendrix. By Himself, do you think that he would put out a song onto a record and sell it to the public if he didnt think it was good/ people would like it? in MY opinion its an amazing song,
I was responding to all of those who may dislike/misunderstand my opinion....It still is an amazing song-Since I was 8,30 yrs ago,This is my all time favorite song of all time any genre -I understand reluctance to admit what sounds as if an attempt to discredit a Genius.
An earlier release, casual,Jimi goofing off,do I prefer its sound quality & performance to the later Electric Ladyland? NO & Jimi must not have once he refined it in the studio or this would be on Electric Ladyland too...
No, this wasn't Jimi at his worst, there are some TERRIBLE recordings out there, this isn't one of them.
Agree that the definitive version of this masterpiece is on Electric Ladyland, but this is a wonderful addition-like looking at Leonardo or Van Gogh's sketches.
Jimi was pissed or stoned a lot of the time, that's what so tragically killed him in the end, but I don't think so here.
Yes... you can hear Jimi turning the page in his notebook. It is a home demo. He was still working on this song. His greatest, IMHO, sandwiched between Rainy Day, Dream Away and ... Still Raining, Still Dreaming along with Moon, Turn the Tides Gently Away makes an incredible psychedelic suite. Much Love, Jimi!!!

Epic song...nuff said...Epic job on the video! Nuff said. The integration is so wonderfull....Thank you Jimi and londanpenda for making this a "experience"
the god of great music to bad 1983 never came for him jimi is the best may hey wacth all his little gutair players and help them get that kickass solo
Amazing! Sorry for the english, but what kind of person was Hendrix? He could play guitar with the teeth better than all the guitars that we have today! This sound is Amazing! How he got this Sound?!? Hendrix is the best!
Just the man and his guitar the basis of creativity. He expands on this song on Electric Ladyland, but I like the raw thoughts. It gives you insight to his genius. So naked. His own phrasing, like talking to your soul with music.
Fuckin hell I knew I knew him from somewhere its garickjwawawawa I used to go to the same art class as him in venus.
Yeah there was me,Elvis,Jimi and Jesus it was fun.
Jesus got a bit much at times tho.
I remember jimi askin him what he thought about calling his album Electric Ladyland and Jesus said "There was two goats, one was fat,the other one not so,and each had his own ox and his freinds ox and" Jimi just said "its ok Ill ask someone else"
actually, he was an inter-dimesional time-traveler. check out prophetjimi account on youtube. and read the book Rock Prophecy. Hendrix wasn't from planet earth. he might have been a venusian, there's a lot of Jovian surrounding him as well. although he might have been from an entirely different star-cluster all together.
Oh please. He was an acid-head, genious artist. If he soared thru other worlds and planets and dimensions, then so do we all. But he wasn't no damn alien.
I love this version of 1983... where i can found the tab ?

The song puts you in a perspective as if you are underwater or near it. And you see all the beautiful sea creatures. Amazing.

I gotta go this cracks not gonna smoke itself

amazing and haunting, hendrix was one of the greatest musical visionaries in any genre
analka1 3 years ago 9
actually, he was an inter-dimesional time-traveler. check out prophetjimi account on youtube. and read the book Rock Prophecy.

But he wasn't no damn alien.

we do.
its called Astral Projection, we do it in our sleep every night.
and he WAS an alien; but that doesn't mean in that lifetime.
he said he had memories of his past incarnations, many years ago.
Jimi wasn't normal..his girlfriends talked about how he would meditate, astral project, and would even read their thoughts.
a lot of his lyrics are just his astral experiences, thats why they seem so non sensical.

actually he said he was from an Asteroid Belt off of Mars.
he said you could ask him about it, because he remembered Mars that vividly.

its all figurative speeking he belives his soul traveled but not litterally more of a figurative thing
