  • Y'know, Ronnie's about 30 here...shows you what a beard can do...

  • Macalpine are the antichrists of building big time masons

  • @TheJUNGLESURFER when are people going to wake up to the connections. McAlpines and freemasons control the housing industry while people remain overcrowded, homeless and relyiing on the corrupt banks and fraudulent mortgages to provide them with a home and an enormous debt burden. I have a lot of respect for The Dubliners. Fuck The English they bombed their own people. I am going off to Dublin in the green, in the green. Give Ireland back to the Irish.

  • @philipsmovies you know the macalpines are big in the picture when you see that they built emirates stadium the olympic stadium the empire stadium in 1934!!and yet there is NOTHING MUCH on the net about them how can this be what the hell very sneaky thats the one can you find anything yourself other than the obama like guitar man with illuminati titles

  • @philipsmovies theres one video of the lord himself he is so like rothschild its uncanny like brothers

  • @TheJUNGLESURFER i agree what you said very little info on the macalpines. You said The Lord himself, you had me worried there. Lord =King=Priest=Supreme Ruler, Bishop, Archbishop, judge etcVICAR=VICARIOUS

  • @philipsmovies check the one video you can smell the deep power im not joking he is so removed from our world its scary alpine means the top now i can see why we have alpine cigs and stereos etc And whats real odd is that rik clay and the rest dont say anything???? no one does they built EMIRATES i mean fuk thats hatdly a shoe box

  • @TheJUNGLESURFER I HAVE RECENTLY COMMENTED about how RIK CLAY, ALEX JONES, DAVID ICKE, JORDAN MAXWELL, IAN R CRANE and so on are all INFO AGENTS not disinfo.

"inganni" i had to type that word in as 5 comments is too much for the system to take, pathetic yt.

  • @philipsmovies welll he is the master mason obvious millenium domes etc etc yet alex JONES never says boo its always jews muslims jesuits or fundos which is true too but the seedy child molesting alpines dont rate a google search

  • @TheJUNGLESURFER and dunham bush do the air conditioning and other high tech on these same projects or some very twisted BIN LADENS MACALPINES and big masonic works next contract the MUSTAPHA JALIL HILARY CLINTON stadium in Tripoli opened by BIEBER PERRY AND KANYE WEST?

  • @philipsmovies ireland has to be safest place in europe in coming revolts and crackdowns small population plenty of food and water

  • @TheJUNGLESURFER good advice.

  • @philipsmovies a plan i read years ago was they were to have war between muslims and europe waged in med sea sth europe and nth africa They will move pope to ireland royals too until peace which will be NWO both pike and nostradamus seem to say such things i bet pope visits ireland soon goes to cashell ? or tara?

  • RIP Ronnie and lukeandbobby what a outfit real musicians real songs ,amazing talent amazing voice, the good old days in our beautiful little country before it was spoiled forever by greed and foreigh influances

  • These men are REAL Irishmen, not what exists to-day.

  • words dont cover it. what an amazing collection of videos. thank you so much for preserving this

  • was this mcalpine a real preson or is it fiction?

  • @Troforso Real person, and the company Sir Robert McAlpine founded infact still exist :D

  • 3 people are obviously McAlpines lackeys.

  • Forget that comment, my bad :D

  • I love this song, reminds me so much of my childhood :)

  • @finapplexx and me! i grew up listening to this music,my dad was 90 last week if you listen to the lyrics he worked with 'darkie flynn down on the isle of grain ,now lives on isle of sheppey!!!

  • Without doubt the most unique and brilliant voice that ever existed.

  • @kevcify Hear hear! My opinion as well, buddy! Spellbindingly and without equal.

  • what year is this??? its gotta be late 50s early 60s.

  • @flashwonders The year is 1963, Bobby Lynch,{guitar} John Sheahan, {Whistle} Ronnie Drew,{guitar} Ciaran Bourke {whistle} Barney McKenna,{Banjo}.

  • @machree01 And nearly half a century later Barney and John are still going strong with the Dubliners. Incredible.

RIP Ronnie, Bobby & Ciaran though.

  • @dannylavery

Lord, dint now so many weregone,,,inc Ronnie & Luke....sooooo sad, but i remember some critic writing that Ronnie had a voice like coke being crushed unde a door.....kinda liked that , i bet he would too, God bless him...TG for U Tube, keepin it alive..

  • @dannylavery This song is ace and it is good to see all but one of the original dubliners in thsi vid, Luke Kelly is not here at this time he left and Bobby joined to replace him for a while Luke returned and Bobby left and has sadly died since like Luke, Ciaran and Ronnie.

  • @machree01

Really? I could have sworn that was Ronnie on the banjo

  • @machree01 Isn't it in 1964 or 1965? Bobby and John first joined in 1964, and Bobby left again in 65

  • @brownies3214 Nicholas Carolan the presenter of Come West Along The Road, says it was 1963 when this was recorded, though he must of got his years mixed up, because Luke left in 1964 and Bob Lynch joined, two years later Bobby Lynch left The Dubliners and Luke rejoined. So it's ethier 64, ? 65, ? or 66.?

  • @brownies3214 What happened with Bobby Lynch?

  • @98jejq He committed suicide in 1982. He suffered from depression, or something

  • @98jejq Bobby Lynch left the group in 1964 or 65. He suffered from some depression, and committed suicide in 1982. But don't cunfused now, and mess Lynch up with Luke Kelly, who died 2 years later from a brain tumor.

  • what year is this??? its gotta be late 50s early 60s.

  • very great song

  • i wonder have all the maggots ate him yet lol he is the last of a dying breed the mad alcho

  • @mcanner25

     retard

  • very good song

  • brilliant brilliant lyrics,, sheer poetry ,,,

  • Ah Ronnie... this song was made for his distinctive voice. RIP my brother... a true legend. This rounds for you! Cheers

  • My grand dad and dad used to play all the irish songs now seen as a history lesson but then in the 60s it was then Irish men did work hard and drank hard and perhaps never got old as a result of this great men

  • @rothwellss my dad is 90 now still reminisces about working for mcalpines on the isle of grain and around the uk

  • im the only one out of my friends who like this music.. rip ronnie

  • Youtube search Seamus Ennis-An Poc Ar Buile to see what happens after they sing this song.

  • Seamus Ennis at 1:38.

  • Wonderful clip. Ronnie was my mum's absolute favourite singer. Such a distinctive voice...and a twinkle in his eye!

  • Comment removed

  • I have swept my mud mixed with my blood, digged holes all over Scotland and that London. Navigation of the land

  • best version :) i love luke's voice but ronnie suits this song better

  • barney on the banjo, you've been there since day one. cheers to barney mckenna a true dubliner

  • A high era in Irish music. Man what a set of musicians.

  • Ronnie Drew is a beautiful man...

  • ronnie drew is amazing!! damn i wish i had the chance to see him play

  • Ronnie Drew was a beautiful man

  • nobody had a voice like ronnie

  • @paulgallagher13

I have an old Dubliner LP....IT SAYS Ronnie has a voice like gravel being crushed under a door....soooo true, and by God sooo good!!

  • Great man great voice r.i.p

  • I doubt it's a real recording! Maybe a video with someone trying to imitate Ronnie's voice behind! Because it seems to be unreal, I know a bit Ronnie's voice, not like this (for example the other versions of this song he sang aren't the same at all). Strange...

  • @Chomuno He was a young man back then. His voice changed a lot during the years (heavy smoking etc.). If this is an imitation (and that's one big if), I would really like to meet the guy doing it, because I think he did an amazing job.

  • @SGRollingStone Ah okay, you convinced me! I shall agree singer's voices change a lot, sometimes.

  • @Chomuno . u know nothing ya eejit.

  • Ronnie ould stock, we'll ne'er see your likes again!

  • what a voice

    can't beat it

luke kelly and ronnie are dead on a par

fantastic singers, will always be missed

  • wat a voice! a national treasure! RIP Ronnie Drew

  • Ronnie Drew....One of our nations greatest patriots. Forever in our hearts.

  • Fair play, the dossers serenade, the long distant kiddies, and I was there.

  • Old, this is fantastic

  • Ronnie was an absolute legend and is already dearly missed. I just wish that I had had the chance to see him live. His memory and voice will always live on. I'm 26 and my children love him!

  • Ronnie and I had a bit in common, due to our background in flamenco guitar.

When Ronnie graduated from college he went to Spain to teach English, and while there he studied flamenco guitar. For many years he used his flamenco blanca guitar to perform and record. He was a good friend and I miss him and the other boys.

  • Ronnie could also sing in Spanish and did so in a unique and wonderful way, and recorded at least one song in Spanish from Chile that I know of, and that was "Yo Vendo Unos Ojos Negros".

My joke for many years has been if you are in an Irish Pub, and there is a Spaniard next to you who speaks English with a Dublin accent, then you know that he was a student of Ronnies! :)

  • @Thomas05091942 I never knew that he went to college. I'd thought, for a long time, that he'd gone to Spain to teach English and had picked up the Flameco guitar as a hobby. Hmm!

  • this is a great song. reminds me of my days in the regiment.

  • sorry ..but the dubliners are ronnie...frome an english pensioner..nearly..god bless..

  • wat years this??

  • 1963

  • outstanding

  • timeless

  • It's funny that they had to alter the last line, but don't know why 'Christ' would be more offensive on RTE than 'God'. Has the start of the tape been edited? Other comments refer to a spoken intro, but for me the music starts immediately.

  • What a voice!

  • Love that song!

  • i love this music so much we need a new dubliners well we need the original dubliners but unfortunately time has taken them accept from CD ;)

  • Wow, Ronnie was a handsome devil when he was younger ;)

  • great song! every word of it is true,my dad was of that generation of irish men working in england , i know through assocation!!!!!!!

  • great song. Thanks for sharing this old golden piece ! :D

  • i love ronnie =)

  • singer has a similar look of shane

  • Yeaaah, ronnie drew and shane macgowan did a lot of music together.

  • go n u cunt ye steal his generator

  • they look so young there comared to the other vidios

  • ronnie is king

  • Ronnie Drew is a legend that will never be forgotten. The true king of Ireland.

  • legend

  • Legends?

  • ERIN GO BRAGH

  • Great banjo playing in there.

  • Ronnie, descansa en paz. Cuando yo era joven te escuchaba y me encantabas.

  • does it seem to anyone else that Ronnie's voice got deeper (and, in my opinion, better) when he got slightly older?

  • Perhaps- another explanation could be poor sound quality on an old video.

  • but the sound quality is good!

  • Yes, I absolutely agree Ronnie's voice got much richer as the years went by.

  • Agree with both of you -

but in The Ronnie Drew Group-days he still had a nice powerful span imho

  • As a American with Irish roots this music just makes me wish I could leave it all behind and return home. If you want to experience the influence of the amazing Irish melodies just listen to some southern bluegrass. It hurts me so the strife the Irish have had to overcome. God bless em! I know I do.

  • great vid... great vid!!

  • Great song, sad because every word of it is true.

    RIP Ronnie, you were great

  • Ronnie Drew was a great talent, thankfully he left us an impresive repretoire of excellent music and song.

His legacy will become timeless for many future generations to enjoy...

'Dublin' (in the rare auld times) is a classic.

  • love this makes me wana drink:)

  • from the spoken intro, what is a 'pincher'

  • still work on the roads love this 1 .gangers fist ..class

  • Excellent music.

Unfortunately he passed away in Dublin on Aug 16, 2008.

  • doesnt he have the perfect voice for these working man songs? these fellows sang about hardships and you could believe they were sincere about it as well.

  • I know Bobby passed away in 1982, but what happened, had he been ill?

  • What i heard is that he committed Sucide.

  • I'm sorry to hear that :-( He came across as a decent guy and certainly a great singer.

  • died of a tumor due to alcohol consumption

  • Ya graceless lout druszaj! He died of a tumor due to Cancer ,take now that from this old Scotsman, a lover of his music and his love for Ireland !!! Eirinn gu Brath agus Albainn Gu Brath !!

  • sorry - I wasn't being glib, I really thought that was the cause of his death. apparently one newspaper reported it was due to alcohol, but in error. apologies.

  • nevermind. my comment was about bobby, youtube cuts off the replies so it looks like i'm posting it as a first post

  • Apology most welcomed and accepted without reservation , thank you druszaj , Albainn Gu brath agus Eirinn gu brath

  • @machree01 why?

  • @machree01 he had a intracranial bleeding, he collapsed on stage, he stepped out and years later he died from it

  • good bless the clan

  • I've worked on building sites around Liverpool. I've heard it said the Irish are lazy. Let me tell you, whatever else they are, they aren't lazy. They're good workers and good company.

  • I've worked with the Irish all over the world, great crack, great stamina, some of them are really clever, steel fixing, shuttering, concreting, no problem, seen many of them turn up on Saturday morning shift, straight from the night club in a suit and shirt, sound familiar? Also had my breakfast cooked on a shovel, no joke.

  • Clever! No two ways about it. I've worked with Irish lads who left school and started work straight away, but who educated themselves and could quote great authors and were familiar with the works of great composers. Fine people, and that goes for for both sides of the border.

  • I understand what you mean and I'm not just saying that because I'm Irish.Out on the "Piss" one night to hard grafting the next morn. There was almost no building work the Irish couldn't do,if it involved labour it had Irish associates.Breakfast on a shovel, sounds like a steam engineman's breakfast to me.

  • Well, I'm not Irish, I'm a scouser with more Welsh blood that anything else, but the Irish are great people and I include Roman Catholic, Protestant, North and South in that. When all is said and done, we're Celts mate!

  • aye true..i feel like there is a throng of us when you say it like that.."after all we're all Celts" :)

  • And like the best Celts, we're racially prejudiced against no one!

  • except saxons perhaps

  • On both videos you'll see Bobby Lynch a forgotten member of the Dubliners in the early days, in "The Leaving of Liverpool he's singing together with Ronnie.

  • Rip Ronnie tears in my eyes.

Proud to be Irish always have always will.

  • what a great man.. RIP Ronnie...

  • I Grafted for MacAlpines a few times recently in Dundee.

Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord,

And let perpetual Light shine upon him.

    May his soul

And the souls of all the faithful departed

    Through the mercy of God

    Rest in peace.

    Amen.

  • lukin gud ronnie! unique voice an absolute legend.

  • i cant believe hes gone..... an era ended. wel never see the likes again.

  • RIP Ronnie, A true Irish Legend, in the truest sense of the word!!!

  • Rest in Peace Ronnie, I'll have a nice pint in your memory

  • RIP Ronnie

  • When you seen him without the beard, and no hair you wouldn't think it was Ronnie,

you would have thought it was a different person.

And then when he started talking, with dub accent, you knew straight away that was Ronnie,

and that singing voice, like walking over a gravel of Coal, everyone stops talking and listens

to his unique rough and splendid voice, he might be gone but he will never be for-gotten God Bless him.

  • I looked up a picture of him with no hair or beard and i'm not a shamed to say i cried.

When i think of Ireland it's his voice that comes into my head.Him singing Donegal Danny brings back memories of men we also have lost at sea here in Norway.

  • Thanks for the memories.

    You will never die Ronnie

  • Joe Dolan, Christy Hennessy and now Ronnie Drew. I can't take this any more. Ní beidh a leithéad ann arís. Rest in peace Ronnie..

I was thinking of buying their CD in Tesco.s Tonight as their Songs are Handy for Practicing on my Accordian. I am very Sorry to Hear the News of Ronnies Death. My Extreme Condolences to His Family.
