  • They didn't make fun of her in real life. Gloria Jean was very popular with the teens of the 1940's

    Straight artistic singing wasn't very popular with teens back then (nor is it now), which is the audience the movie was pointed at. The movie simply portrays that, and the song's transition to a stylewhat WAS popular then is made.
