@AllRequired dude, idk where you got those numbers, i am a very logical person, and here is what i think: stop thinking you are smarter than the producers. What the producers want is ratings. if someone does not get them ratings, they will not keep on calling him back, that's for one. second of all, Russell is so polarizing, those who love him will definitely watch just to see him play again, and those who hate him will watch to see him get voted out.
@PhoenixMarco5 Simple: advertising revenue. You think all those products that show up as rewards are simply for show? Advertisers pay huge sums to have their products featured on the program. It's called product placement, and it works.
@AllRequired you seem like you know a thing on two. so think about this, you really think that the more they lose viewers the more money they get? there is a reason why commercials are so expensive during the super bowl, as we know, its because everyone (except me that is) watches the super bowl. The more people watch it, the more cbs will get paid, period, so of course they want a big audience and high ratings, and they wouldn't keep on doing something if it killed that.
@PhoenixMarco5 Perhaps, but the Super Bowl is a single event on a single night (and if you ask me, downright retarded and boring). Shows like Survivor are multiple episodes spread out over a stretch of time and thus do not have the same financial issues. They make steady consistent revenue that, while not being as much per episode as the Bowl, enable them to overcome almost anything.
Watch the Idol finale and see a ratings blockbuster in action.
@AllRequired they may not have the same financial issues but there is always going to be a relationship between audience and revenue. it just doesn't make sense to say that producers don't care for ratings, of course they do. any producer cares for ratings.
Its not really survivor. It boils down to a game show held outdoors where the object is to fly under the radar, dont piss off anyone, climb onto a real players back(the best strategic player), and show superficial sympathy towards the jury members so they will vote for you. Thats how you win!! Its nothing about survivor. IT should be called the Social game. It mimics American society, vote with your emotions not your brains!
I concur about making connections with the jury. However Natalie voted those jury members out as well and both had social connections. I believe this leaves the only other reason the majority of the jury didn't give to Russel, they were bitter for being played. That is just good game play in my opinion. It is a game of survival. If it was solely based on who was the best socially, then once again what is the point of calling the show survivor.
Russell had no choice but to eradicate Galu. They were strong by 8-4 and would have voted out all 4 Foa Foa members if it wasn't for Russell, do you honestly think Natalie, Jaison or Mick could have pulled that off? And then he's faced with a bitter Galu jury. He should have won that season.
@VastedCouth I've got news for you: NATALIE was the one to pull off that coup. She spoke to Monica and Laura, whereas he was nowhere to be found. Oh, and she was acting on a tip from JAISON, while again, Russell was nowhere to be found.
.
If Russell tried any of the moves you just described, that would have been the end of the Foa Foa THAT VERY DAY. Sandra has it right: "He's so stupid."
I love watching people try to argue the point that Natalie played a better game than Russell last season, and that's why she won. You could have put one of those sea-clams they eat on that island next to Russell last season and it would have won over him. Seriously, stop being silly.
There are three ways I see of winning: being a manipulating and being dirty in other ways, dominate immunity challenges or riding the band wagon, which is what I seen Natalie do. She didn't win many if any individual competitions, Russel did, the last and most important and in my opinion most challenging. Natalie did not attempt to form alliances, at least not as aggressive as Russel did. That is my observation.
@2arunout That last immunity challenge got him to the end, but in the big picture, that won't get you the win. Rather, it's gaining your fallen comrades' support that counts.
Also, it's not so much forming alliances Natalie did, it's building bonds with those in the bench. Now THAT'S what helps you win instead of bulldozing your opponents and expecting them to sing praises to your antics.
@jpad319 you sound so pro Russel, lol. How did Natalie convince the jury to vote for her. During their speeches to the jury. If the winner of survivor is mostly based on who persuades the jury at their speeches, what is the point of even playing the game of SURVIVOR. No pun attended, just emphasizing, SURVIVOR...
@2arunout Natalie tailored her performance to the final vote by making social connections with those in the jury. If the jury likes you and/or dislikes the other person, you're golden. All those bold moves won't matter one bit if the jury won't support you. Plain and simple.
All those bold moves won't matter if the jury is pissed about them, is what you mean to say. Giving the win to someone you like that you also admit openly did nothing in the game to deserve it, shows a huge disrespect for the game. By this logic they should call the show, "Who's the nicest person", they don't even have to do challenges. They could just sit on the beach for 39 days and talk religion.
@bobnfriends Here's the problem: The jury can vote ANY WAY THEY WANT without consequence. They don't have to appreciate "great" game play. They don't have to "respect the game." They can reward or punish any method of game play as they see fit. It's the finalists' responsibility to perform in such a way that it'll gain them votes from those in the bench..
Your absolutely right. We watch these intelligent, athletic, clever players fight it out for 39 days only to resort to something that they could have easily done on day one. Deciding who wins on what ever criteria the cast decides. It's the worst part of the show...in my opinion. Would rather see the final two compete in a variety of game deciding challenges myself.
Who's making it your problem? The fact that you are getting emotional about this shows why you like the jury system so much. I wanted to see Rob win in All Stars as well, it's not a Russell thing. It's called I like seeing people win because they played the better game, not because they have a blue shirt on and the jury loves the color blue. :P
If everyone played like Natalie though, how long do you think Survivor would still be on the air? My guess is a day, before that shit was pulled off faster than you can say Bitter Jury. Love him or hate him Russell makes for great T.V.
Dude...if their is plenty of other shit to talk about, why can't I view a Survivor Clip on youtube with out seeing your comments posted all over them? I see you talking about this crap everywhere, EVERYWHERE...apparently their isn't other shit to talk about.
@bobnfriends Because it isn't crap. It's about getting to the end game, regardless of the method, with whom on the jury and facing that same jury next to you, and keeping track of how you act toward those who are in any of these positions. NOTHING ELSE. If you don't like the way the game works, just tune out. Nothing will get the network's attention faster than a huge ratings drop.
I would pose the same assertion to you in reguards to your distain for Russell's game play. Tune out. Their is a reason season 20 is the highest rated season sense Season One, it's called Russell.
@bobnfriends Russel makes mistakes, but it's quite easy to see the ratings are high because of him, he's a very good player and is just so entertaining.
@AllRequired .....did you just say that ratings are high because of Sandra? Really? Its because of russell, thats why he got favourite player of the season, its common sense.
@chinglis Actually, Russell didn't make any contribution to the ratings except to bring them down. In fact, the opening episode of Redemption Island was the single lowest-rated regular episode (outside of recaps and special events) ever. And the only season that ranked lower in the ratings than Heroes vs. Villains (which finished 25th that year) was Samoa (26th). Favorite Player of the Season means nothing.
@AllRequired ....LOL. Russell brought the ratings down? OMG you're so delusional. Just because the first episode of redemption island had low ratings doesn't make it because of russell, for fuck sake. Samoa brought the ratings up and Heroes vs Villians was just about the best season, LOL you can't win favourite player of the season and be boring, how clueless can you be, Russell had become the most entertaining player, its a fact, not an opinion, fucking hell, get the facts right.
@chinglis That's right, keep living in your own delusional dream world. Keep sticking your head up your golden boy's dirty ass. The best seasons in your mind aren't always the highest-rated seasons, that I can tell you for a fact.
@AllRequired LOL, the ratings in samoa went up because of russell, and HvV was voted the best season, are you too thick to understand those 2 simple statements? Fucking hell, some people are clueless.
@chinglis "Fucking hell, some people are clueless." Exhibit A: chinglis!
Samoa scored fewer than 12.5 million viewers and finished 26th in the Nielsens. Again, that's the LOWEST ranking of ANY Survivor season. Does this mean nothing to you?
@AllRequired lol, you're talking out of your ass, anybody can give out fake numbers of ratings, i know it for a fact, jeff probst said that because of Samoa's success they were able to keep going, russell is the most popular player in history, fucking hell you're ignorent.
@chinglis That's right, you go on believing what you want to believe. Sorry, no dice, I am not a newbie fan, and Jeff Probst's say-so is not reliable.
And you could have posted your rant very easily without pressing the reply button. That way, you would have gotten your point across and I wouldn't have learned about it.
@AllRequired LOL, i love when douchebags behind computers try to look smart as if they're actually educated in what they're bitching about, you have no idea what ratings they got, stop running your mouth, you have no idea how many people are laughing at you're pathetic comments, anybody who says russell brings down ratings is retarded, plain and simple.
@chinglis You know it for a fact? Can you provide me ironclad rock-solid evidence Russell brought Samoa ratings up? Hasn't happened yet. You've given me no hard numbers, nothing except a say-so from someone with a well-deserved reputation for playing favorites. That's all.
So no, I'm not the retarded one here, and I'm not the one who's being laughed at. At this point, it's safe to say we have a gentleman's stalemate going on here, so you just go on believing whatever you want.
@AllRequired LOL, you're such a thick moron, "russell brought the ratings down" LOL you know NOTHING, you fucking sad, uneducated scum. Russell is one of the most successful, entertaining players of all time but yeah, he brings the ratings down because of that..... HAHA XD!!!!
J.T gets voted off next, after giving Russell the Idol that would save himself! Dumb move and they still can't Russell is running the show. The best player yet!
@LeafsRaptorsandJays Why do people still bring this up? Russell was targeted at the SECOND tribal council, he was in Rob's crosshairs from the day he touched the sand on the Villains beach. They voted off Randy at the 1st tribal because he was old and crabby, and Rob was pretty much playing a "keep the tribe strong for challenges" game. Everything would have played out the way it did regardless.
@Kartel10304 Actually, Randy and Rob had problems with each other. Randy was talking about it on Cesternino's podcast. You'll also notice that Rob and Russell were in an alliance at the start of the season, where Russell, Rob and Coach were discussing Parvati being someone they should get rid of. Rob stopped trusting Russell after he went looking for the idol.
You know what, Russell is so sly, I bet if you don't vote him off first it will be impossible to do it. Give him a week or two on the Island and he will be unstopable. Why wouldn't the girls pair up with him? He's the guy that takes all the bullets to get them to the end, to set them up for a win. He can use that as his selling point for crying out loud. I'm telling you, if you don't vote Russell off first, it is at your own parell. He's just too good!
I guess later on all of the them became jury and on the ponderosa place they will find out from coach "the dragon slayer" whether Russell use the idol to vote on Parvati or not that's where the truth is reveal and the heroes side will totally pissed on him.
I hope Russell wins, he is by far the best player. I just hope Parvati doesn't drag him down. The merge is coming in episode 10, I can't wait for Russell to play his black magic on the heroes. "If you ain't with me, your against me..."
@AllRequired Not necessarily good terms, but good enough for someone to see through their anger at being voted off. Like with Samoa...a good deal of the jury wasn't really on "good" terms with Nat, but they detested Russell for making them all seem like the noob losers they were. They took revenge the only way they could.
ummm this lie doesnt make sense. if all the girls voted for russell and russell voted for parvati, but then russell and parvati both played idols, how would that have made courtney go home?
@NoMoreMrNiceGuyBitch then since they would have both used idols there would be a revote but they couldnt vote for russ or parvati cause of immunity so they voted out someone else and it was courtney hypothetically.
wow, hes got it really thought out. Even with Sandra spilling the beans as shown in the preview, if he can pull off this plan then it won't matter, they'll believe his lies over Sandra's truth cause its what they want to believe. Amanda though will be the main potential problem for Russell.

For the record, here are the final numbers for each season on which Russell appeared, according to the Nielsens:
Samoa: #26 (2009-2010), 12,3 million viewers (fewest)
Heroes vs Villains: #25 (2009-2010), 12,6 million viewers (second fewest)
Redemption Island: #18 (2010-2011), 12,6 million viewers (third fewest)

@markyopo In order to win, he needs to be on good terms with those who will be on the jury.

So that means that Russell knows about Parv's Idol. Tought she was smarter than that.

@Ashanti71 i don't think he knows i think he is making up an excuse for keeping parv. she didn't tell him, but he's clearly digging for any lie.

@OhadAshkenazi We'll see. Looks to me that he knows.

ummm this lie doesnt make sense. if all the girls voted for russell and russell voted for parvati, but then russell and parvati both played idols, how would that have made courtney go home?
NoMoreMrNiceGuyBitch 1 year ago
@NoMoreMrNiceGuyBitch then since they would have both used idols there would be a revote but they couldnt vote for russ or parvati cause of immunity so they voted out someone else and it was courtney hypothetically.
williamisthe1 1 year ago
@NoMoreMrNiceGuyBitch One girl "voted Courtney out of spite". Danielle would be a good choice as for the person to have done this, "out of jealousy".
Kartel10304 1 year ago
@NoMoreMrNiceGuyBitch
Because that would have forced a revote, and noone can vote for Paverti and Russell in such a revote.

wow, hes got it really thought out. Even with Sandra spilling the beans as shown in the preview, if he can pull off this plan then it won't matter, they'll believe his lies over Sandra's truth cause its what they want to believe. Amanda though will be the main potential problem for Russell.
