Why on earth would you call this a UFO???? It's man-made. You're only trying to debunk ACTUAL balloon-type UFO objects that are being spotted all over the world that do feats that defy the law of gravity. I am a witness so please stop trying to confuse people.
@catman529 I'm not "worked up". I just find it annoying for people to attach the word "UFO" to things man-made. And being a WITNESS & BELIEVER in ACTUAL "otherworldly" visitors who disguise themselves with "Balloon-like" cloaks and defying the laws of gravity and physics, I simply find it to be deceptive and rude. That's all. There are REAL visitations happening daily. The people don't need confusion. Be well.
@12Crowns Maybe it's just me but now I think you're even more worked up. Seriously calm down, I am not calling my balloon a real UFO, I am calling it a UFO because I designed it in the classic saucer shape that is so often attributed to UFO sightings. Ask people to think of a UFO, most of them will picture a saucer shaped object in their head. And since I designed my balloon after a flying saucer, there's no reason not to call it a UFO solar balloon.
@sqhschief Thanks, I put contact info on the tag with a URL to my web site which has a contact form at the very bottom of the homepage for people who have found one of my balloons. I also wrote the date and location of release, plus a special ID for the balloon so I knew exactly which one was found if someone did find it. Unfortunately, nobody found this one.
@catman529 That's cool if someone would have contacted you to see how far it went. So these work by heat from the sun, or is it more of a hot air balloon with a flame at the bottom, I couldn't tell by the video.
@sqhschief It's completely solar powered, I have all the stuff I know about solar balloons on my web site. Although I do make some flame-powered balloons (sky lanterns) especially during the winter when they fly really well at night.
@12Crowns - so basically after watching this video I'm pretty much convinced that all the real UFOs were really just trash bags put into space by regular people. Thanks catman for the mythbusting!!
@ThirdDegreeWitch Nope, nobody ever contacted me, so there's no saying if it was found or how far it flew. I'm guessing somewhere around 50 miles or so because it was mid-afternoon and the balloon was weighted and didn't gain a whole lot of altitude.
Not on a solar balloon because you wouldn't see them much in the full sunlight. I do want to put LEDs on a candle-powered UFO balloon and fly it at night - but I haven't gotten around to doing that yet.
Actually I just released another UFO balloon today - it being the second saucer-shaped solar balloon I have built. I will put together a video of it soon. I released it at the same park as the first one, and people were asking me if I was trying to get on the news, or if there was a 6 year old boy on board. lol. I said no, he's in a box in the attic. ;)
They usually heat up in just a couple minutes. The larger, human-lifting solar balloons have to self-inflate for about 30 minutes before they can carry their payload, but these small ones are ready to fly almost as soon as they are full of air.
I am planning to sometime build a helium-filled UFO balloon with LEDs that I will fly on a tether at night. I might even have the LEDs remote controlled, so I can raise the "ufo" without anyone seeing and then turn it on to make it sort of appear from nowhere.
That's what I used - fishing line to flatten the profile. Otherwise it would have looked like a ball. I could design a flatter balloon than this one but it would hold less air and get less lift, but if I made it large enough it would fly fine.
Nice idea, but it wouldn't work... its a solar balloon, it has to be black or it won't fly. Perhaps a big mylar streamer or somthing attached to the bottom would be better.
Currently I don't sell this shape, but I have been considering it and will let you know if I decide to. It requires more work than the other balloons to build, but it's entirely possible.
Don't know, that's what I hoped, but so far nothing has appeared in the news or on the Internet. I'm thinking a few of the more gullible people got fooled but nobody thought to report it. It looked a lot like a UFO when it reached a few hundred feet in altitude, and flew over a busy road so a lot of people saw it.
Well, it depends on the mall. There would have to be large windows on the roof to let the sun in, and they would probably kick you out anyway. It's about 9 feet wide. A better idea would be to let it go outside the building, and let it fly overhead.
It's filled with air, and the sun heats it up. It's basically a mini hot air balloon, but you don't have to heat it yourself. Check my site, it has all the info you need.
Great design keeping large surface area exposed to noon day sun.

at 0:25 did you put holes on the side of the balloon where the tapelines intersected?

@rocflpn08 Nope, it was aluminum foil added for effect.

you can read the comments, or visit the web site. It's filled with air using a fan or blow dryer. It's a hot air balloon heated by the sun.

did you leavve a whole at the bottom open?
BowlingFreak218 2 years ago
There was a hole at the bottom that was left open. Except with tube balloons, I always leave a hole open at the bottom.

this ufo also seems to have holes around the equator of the balloon. are they actually holes or does it just look like holes?

A am going to make one of this balloons to lift up a giant plastic bag to pop but they weigh 300 grams per 100 feet.
