@Marmiteums Agreed...I can't recall how many episodes dealt with alcoholism and yet Quincy, Speed & the rest of the guys would close the show at the cocktail bar surrounded by drinks galore.
@revlaz I liked the way he made the cops faint. For its day, this show was even more impressive than CSI is now. I'm surprised CSI hasn't referenced him or had him do a cameo.
He also used his microscope to analyze his favorite meat sauce recipe.
My favorite was the one where the death appears to be natural causes, Quincy finds an irregularity, his boss threatens to fire him, the department's reputation is on the line, he enlissts Sam's help in breaking department rules, solves the crime at the last minute, and saves his job.
Just as good as Quincy on television would have been a Quincy video game.
I mocked up an opening sequence of what Quincy could have looked like on the Commodore 64, the biggest computer of the Quincy era. Paste this title into the bar:
@eatmorelsd I had a Members Only jacket but was never told what it made me a member of. Those things were cool but if the temperature dropped below 30 you were fucked.
I mean where else could a grumpy old guy piss off his superiors, get the girl, make a self righteous social statement , AND connect a paper cut with a year old murder case......all in the span of 60 minutes!!
@BettorOffSingle Ha-ha-ha...indeed, forgot about Speed, surprised Murray never appeared on that show! I found it funny that Quincy never thought twice about hanging out at that sleazy restaurant with his pals.....but god forbid if you hung out at the local punk rock club!
I smell a conspiracy. There was a shortfall of forensic scientists who did autopsies. So the medical folks had a brainwave: make a TV show where a medic gets the bones and the boner. Boing. Boing. And he has a boat - only the best for his rooting around when the formaldehyde has gone for the day. Let's call the guy Quincy.
As if the fact that he was at the top of his profession and no doubt quite well off wasn't enough he also lived on a bloody boat. What woman could resist that.
Oh my... I can hardly remember that Quincy was one of my dad´s favourites, also with Columbo, Statsky and Hutch, and Hawaii 5 0...! Quincy was broadcasted at 9 pm and it was very late for me (also its thematic was very "hard" for a little girl), so mom used to take me to bed, but I standed up and stayed hidden between curtains just to see the program. At least I was discovered...! what kind of memories...!

AHA!! Now the young ho that kisses him at the end of the intro.. is an OLD bitch now. When was Quincy aired? 32 years ago? I wonder what her grandkids thought of her being a slut, as an acting job. LOL :P
This Quincy theme sounds a lot like Dixieland land type music from New Orleans or something kind of like the song "When The Saints Go Marching In" for instance.
Ok. This is wierd. It goes from a Q to an O. And then police start falling like dead birds. Then a bunch of random scenes in 3 O's. Then goes back to a Q. Then it ends...in a rather uncomfortable abrupt way.
Really? you don't get this? The police start dropping because Quincy unveils a dead body that's been prepared for autopsy. then, in typicaly 70's fashion, you get random scenes in the circles. Then, since Quincy's an ME, you see him pinching arm flesh, and they assume you'll think it's the arm of a cadavor. But it's just some hot chick on his boat. All in all, a great 70's intro.
Long before CSI and Law & Order there was Quincy. Adamant in the face of injustice, hypocrisy and deceit - fighting incompetence and inefficiency all around, solving cases single-handed with his piercing insight and powers of deduction - only pausing to bark at the top of his lungs into the face of some poor moron while the so-called Police walked repeatedly in circles or stood around slack-jawed and drooling. And for well-deserved recreation? Regularly porking girls a third his age. Terrific.
I don't touch em sammm, I just take the pictures.... i like my women flat enough to slide under a door sammmmmm... sammmmmmm, why can't we understand that this was the work of Lonnie Hazard!!!!!
If anyone has a clip of Quincy's wedding where his bride sings her vows to him PLEASE post it!! It is so cheesy and nauseating that it is a classic piece of TV. How Jack Klugman did not laugh or puke I do not know!
@RobeSoupAndTears No! It wasn't murder! It was because the ORPHAN DRUG was not approved by the evil FDA, who quincy spends the last 20 minutes of the episode trashing in yet another weekly crusade.
It makes for an awkward situation when hooking up with a new chick for the first time but they eventually get into it...especially when I whip out the bone-saw!
That was a great television show and a great opener. I have seasons 1-3 on DVD sets from last christmas. I remember watching Jack Klugman, and thought he became a great actor as Quincy. My favorite character was his sidekick named Sam Fujiyama played by Robert Ito.,and let me tell ya, this guy was very cute!
And this opening were mainly used in the German Quincy series on RTL. In Germany there were three different voice actors who dubbed Quincy. In the ARD (public TV channel) series Quincy has as the same voice as Bud Spencer. :)
Quincy was a childhood hero, not afraid to take on the powers that be when something was out of whack. Somehow, I never saw the pilot as a very young kid had no real idea of why the cops passed out. Knowing what it is now, I probably would too. Sam Fujiama also saved the day and Quincy's bacon a few times too. I also loved how Astin played the bureaucrat but when it came down, he would back Quincy up. Great show and great cast.
