I live in PA,like 5 minutes away from PURE amish land..like its 30 miles of amish people. They are kinda weird, but there so nice and verrrry respectful,but then again..i'm mixed,and i'm pretty sure they aren't down with the brown.. :)

i'm pretty much neutral about the amish, but my point of view is, shouldn't we just respect their way of life? regardless of how we feel about it? i heard that it's against their teachings to be photographed or videotaped and eventhough it may seem strange to us, shouldn't we just respect that about them and not videotape them "sneakily" like they're circus freaks?
I respect the Amish FAR more than I respect your stupid kid who goes to school to learn NOTHING, eats french fries and ice cream for lunch and plays video games until 3 am which leaves him a total of 3 hours of sleep before school starts. Amish are NOT as perfect as everyone cracks them up to be. They are just like white people in every single way, except they don't buy cars, they just ride with other people. Amish is a class of people which reside in U.K & USA & are around 350000 in no. They are bearded with no moustache. They dont use any advancement of modern age like electricity, computers T.V or refrigerators etc. Amish plough their fields with bulls & take water for drinking & irrigation from the wells. They pay taxes but dont utilize any advancement in science. No one objects to their life style but why do we object the simple life style of people of Northern areas of Pakistan & Afghanistan?

They do have a time around the age of 16 (which is like our age of 18) called the Rumsprina and they can live in our lifestyle for a little while and then decide if they want to be amish or just live the regular american lifestyle. Look up on the internet "amish rumspringa."
