  • @BloodCr0ss

Well that's what happens with 21 year old nitro-cellulose lacquer :)

If I'm being honest, I trust the pros who knew what they were doing when they applied the finish, rather than some guy who has an opinion but no other qualifications. Honestly though, do you really think a tin of black spray paint is going to look better than a professionally applied finish?

IMO, a stripping the nitro lacquer and paint and replacing it with spray paint is the very definition of super ugly :)

  • @BloodCr0ss I guess it's personal preference, it's an old guitar and it has worn a fair bit. I really like the finish on it but I think I'd prefer the aesthetics and sound if I stripped the paint.

  • does turning the lights on and off affect the tone at all?

  • I love how ten million guitarists all over the world are like OMG LES PAUL IS THE BEST THING EVER IT CANNOT BE IMPROVED, as if their opinion is unique. Or as if that comment really had anything to do with the mod.

I'd like to see one of my B.C. Riches set up with some LEDs behind the pickups, I never thought of anything like this. I bet it looks badass on stage with low lighting and smoke... B.C. Riches look badass enough in the dark/with strobe and smoke... some eerie lights might be cool!

  • now what would be cool is if you could get it to go to the music youre playing

  • Awesome! i plan to do this now with my les paul! how did you get them to blink?

  • Les Paul's dont need that shit on it. And i hope that wasn't concrete you were sitting your guitar on.

  • i know a guy called william woods

  • That's really cool

  • awsome!

now u can see how croked ur pick ups are!

    amazing!

    astounding!

  • I guarantee those cause a world of hum being right on the pickups like that

  • @JonDeth They really don't, no matter how loud what intensity of the light - not a sound. I was anticipating a little noise but I haven't noticed anything with this guitar.

  • Pretty cool, reminds me of when I was watching a Metallica documentary-type-thing a little while back they had a bass that all of the frets lit up either blue green or purple, it was pretty sweet.

  • Maybe you should have done this vid in a dimmer room, would've looked better

  • well, it looks kinda crappy but it gave me some DIFFERENT but "simmilar on the making of it" ideas so if you culd tell me if it adds some noise or it affects the sound in any way I would appreciate it

  • Cool, likes like Night Rider xD

  • over drive spider xD i love the retarded ass nick names some people give themselves.

  • @JohnBurninate Whatever you say Burninator :D

  • sick nice lp u rulz

  • what a beautiful guitar

yet again gibson never fails to impress

  • freakin sweet

  • i have mine on the neck

  • i just did this to mine but with yellow

  • do you have the how to on instaling the LED's id like to have a pop at this it looks soo sweet cheers

  • a les paul doesn't need that kind of thing to look great.

  • Its an ESP.

  • No one said it does... It just looks better.

  • ...it makes his LP different, witch is good since way too much poeple have one

  • very funny man, I will do the same in my guitar!

  • im gonna try that when i put my fuzz factrory in

  • A fuzz factory?, leds? I'm gonna be very jealous of that guitar.

  • do you get any interference from the leds being so close to the pick ups?

  • I don't think it would, it's not similar to a transmitting device, just LED's. Could be wrong though, but that's just my guess.

  • I don't think it would, considering that it is not a transmitting device. Could be wrong though, but that's my best guess.

  • awsome

  • Must look class in the dark! Would love to try it with those multi-colour LEDs...

  • Nice

  • Great idea. How many Leds did you use on each pickup? And is that an Epi.Les Paul Custom?

  • no it's a orville, gibsons japan company.

  • wtf!hahaha nice

  • sweet!!

if you had dot inlays, or get a cheap guitar that has some try took lite up your frets!

  • do the pickups still work normaly

  • This would look better with clear pickup rings and/or Q Tuner pickups.

  • Nice. I got blue led's in my guitar. they sit under the humbucker too. I got it setup to have the lights turn on whenever I plug in a cable though.

  • i must say its pretty meaningless to install LED lights in a guitar, but damn! you're gonna get some people staring as shit when you play!

  • coooool!!!

  • In the riff'

  • The riff in the sounds a lot like a muse one.

  • IM SO DOING THIS!

  • I took this idea one step further and put red LED's in the back of my wiring cavity. I made a new cover out of acrylic so you can see them glowing through the back and from behind the pickups in the front. I used a push pull pot for the switch.

  • Hey

    are they easy to install?

    i might get some...

  • why would you do that to your gibson...?

  • cause its his guitar

  • i'm with ya on that.

  • its pretty cool. but its kinda boring

  • i'd want more flashing and shit

  • omg !!! that was insane !!! is there any possably way of you making a video explaining how you made this ?? cose that would be the best !!

  • so cool you gotta gig with that I'm coming have you got other colors as well?

  • if only it smoked.

  • and how!

    Still pretty awesome though.

  • That's so cool! You should turn the lights off so we can see just how bright it is :D

  • I've been content with it being that bright for a long time...I think it is time for an upgrade and a new video! I'll keep you posted...

  • I want led's in my fretboard :(

  • imagine if you had it running through the neck and it had glass inlys do they could light up!

  • dude that would be le shit! but your guitar tone would suffer cuz its glass

  • the inlays dont effect your tone... hes talking about the fret markers, inlays..

  • check out mark king's bass, there are guitars with LED inlays,

  • it's just the inlays, i doubt it'd do anything. Theres a guy with a fretless guitar thats got a glass fretboard actually, its pretty cool.

  • Glass is thicker than wood and fret inlays don't affect tone unless its a fretless.

  • not really its only the inlays getting changed from something like MOP to glass not much change

  • i nearly did a sex wee then! where can i get some pickup backlights from please.

  • mynes simular... i have a clear pickguard ( fender srat) with a blue led inside to glow the guts , its wicked

  • power supply is it on board or goast throght the patch cable?

  • A 9v battery is hidden in the back of the guitar with all the other wiring :)

  • thats satans guitar if ive seen it!!! haha nah im jking how the hell did u do it

  • That would look awesome playing at a gig with low lighting =P

  • All this guitar needs is an LED Kaoss Pad and it is officially my dream guitar.

  • why did you do that to a les paul... not saying it doesnt look cool... cause it does... just saying... thas an awfully expensive guitar to be messing around with.

  • True, but there is no irreversible changes made :)

  • great idea, but i think that it is a bit hard to see, and unless your playin in the dark, with your hand perfectly in between the pickups, no one is gonna be able to see it, consider putting like an LED strip or sumthng like that on the binding? and making it brighter

  • Very true, at some point I will get around to chucking loads in there!

  • cool man you should make a tutorial on how to make one

  • is i maybe possible to conect the pickups to the circuit like to an npn transistor, so every time the puckup picks up noise it will light up? or similar,

    would be really cool.....

  • Yea. or Like the louder the volume is the pickups home in on that and change colour accordingly. Or howevre hard you strum. what frets you hit etc. Would cost a TON though.

  • I was actually thinking of maybe using an envelope filter kind of way. Not sure how to go about it though!

  • can I borrow that guitar?

  • dude you song riff sounds pretty much the same as yes please by muse check it out

  • OMG

    dats kl

    a les paul

    WIT LED LIGHTS

    nice 1 =]

  • 2 questions:

    1) do the LEDs require battery usage? and if so, just normal 9vs?

2)what color LEDs are offered aside from red, blue and green?

  • they come in all different colors but im not sure about the batterys

  • I just dropped a 9V in, they last for ages. I was considering putting two in just to extend the life but it's getting a bit cramped in there!

  • @justinrulesass

All the leds run on a 9v battery, with normal usage they can last between 6months and a year!

LEDs come in any colour you'd like :)

  • look like my gh guitar

  • what is this music?

  • abnegative their awesome, seen them live local and they rock :)

  • looks like that guitar is burning internally

    LOL.

  • How many leds did you put in for each humbucker? I'm working on a guitar right know with my Fretleds circuit (check out the vid... its not that guitar i'm working on btw). Maybe I'm going to do this as well, looks very cewl.

  • nice les paul

  • yayyy my guiatar lights up.

    thats pretty cool dude

  • your guitar will be fully sock like a lowrider car wid neons bro.... smick mzaaaaaate

  • i got bright blue leds and put them through right under the volume and tone switchs and got clear nobs it lights up the whole nobs it looks great

  • how dull

do something good like LEDs as fret markers!

  • It means cutting into the wood of the neck which I personally don't think is a great idea, I'd be worried about getting in the way of the truss rod and it might give the guitar less strength and sustain.

  • swwet but wheres the switch?

  • It is a push pull switch on the neck pickup tone control. Watch closely and you can see me turn it on.

  • cool

  • that is a waste of a gibson or what ever model guitar that is

  • A waste? It can be easily removed if I feel like it and a simple push pull pot to turn off.

  • it's okay

  • Hi mate , this is awesome , so my main question is A) how did u route wires etc B) is there any interferance ?

    Nick

  • I didn't do any routing, used the space already provided by the pickup wires so I can remove it or change colours if I feel like it. The interface consists of changing the speed and intensity and is controlled by a push-pull pot to turn it on and off.

  • Sweet man, thats an Orville right? I love my Orville LP Custom :D

  • Sure is! Orville by Gibson - best les paul I've ever played even compared to 'propper' gibsons.

  • where do you get the leds from ?

    and how are they installed

do you put a battery or what?

    greatt videoo

    awsome.!!

  • i just went to a concert and the guitarist had leds behind his pickups, coming out of his strap button, and in his volume pots. It was awesome! Good job on yours =)

  • kind of pointless to me those lights dont make you play better

  • It isn't supposed to make you play better, its an aesthetic mod.

  • you should put more lights on it, then it would be super cool

  • Hey dude, I love what you've done ! Just wandering if it was a one-off mod you did yorself or if you bought it as a kit ? cheers m8, Jim

  • It's a one off mod i did myself but if you'd like I can make kits for other guitars either with or without solder. Send me a message if your interested :)

  • cool
