I was there also. The rumor was that Blondie was performing, and we heard that Deborah Harry was back stage that day. I was front and center when B-52's were on and they seemed like they were from outer space. I have never seen foootage before.
Thanks for this video! i was there and it is still a great memory. I know somebody filmed the whole thing but I have never seen any video released. I wish somebody wiould release the video. Rockpile stole the show in my opinion
I was there too! It was my introduction to Nofuntario (the garbage skips & security checkpoints, dry festival, nuthin' but warm flat pepsi in dixie cups, no shade, f'n Pink Floyd alarm clock etc etc, and I was already bummed that The Clash cancelled after I got my ticket) For me what made it all worthwhile was Talking Heads, who just kept getting more numerous as the show went on, premiering their Remain in Light lineup w. Bernie Worrell et al. They were so good I hardly noticed EC afterwards
for any who are interested, wolfgangsvault(dot)com has got soundboard recordings of the festival. As of Nov 2011, you can stream (for free) or download mp3 or flac (for a fee) recordings of the Pretenders, B52s, Elvis C, and Rockpile. Supposedly recordings of the other performers are coming soon.
Thanks for this -- I was there, 31 years ago today. We got there the night before, slept on the lawn and awoke to Pink Floyd's "Time" being cranked on the PA, which begins with a series of alarm clocks going off. The Clash were on the poster, but either canceled or were held up at customs, not sure. An amazing weekend.
That was a hella party. I remember after the very strange procession to the entrance, walking in over the rolling hills and suddenly something from "Dark Side of the Moon" (which always showed up when I was tripping) was blasting across the meadows, and the day just kept getting more and more beautiful. EC played off the Clash thing at the beginning of his set, "Hullo, I'm The Clash". Nice to be able to show some people what I've talked to them about for years and years. Thanks!
This is my second account. I have a boot of The B-52's set and will upload some tracks from it if not the whole thing. I'm not sure The B-52's want it on Youtube though - They haven't released a live album yet - So if I don't have any tracks on it uploaded when you check or if my account is suspended you might have an idea why.
Pretzone, you're right on about the mounties. They took all our booze away. But I'm afraid the Ramones weren't there. We get older and we get shows mixed up. I'm sure you saw them. Just not at Heatwave.
I was there, too! Why is no one mentioning THE RAMONES!?!? They were awesome! It was so f-ing HOT, and we were all in our black leather jackets! And yeah, it WAS in the middle of nowhere! And we had to park like a mile away and walk, only to be meta at the gate by mounties harassing us and taking our shit away!
@olphands YES! doing acid, I remember thoses little bastard flying around all day and seeing traces off them! That's F in cool forgot all about them. thanks, came from Burlington Vermont. What a line up & show!
I was there to see Costello but Byrne and Talking Heads were incredible. I ended up in the hospitality back stage and there was a girl dressed in a buckskin halter top and mini skirt opening beers w/her teeth and a chick w/her child selling acid.Weird scene
I was there that day. Costello was the highlight. Seeing him up close was lilke walking into chopper blades. The B52s, with Ricky Wilson and pre-OD Pretenders also rocked.
Haha, I was 15 and I was there, and yes there were busses to take you up there from the city. The only bad part was trying to make sure you didn't miss your bus home at the end! I tried to sneak in some booze too, but the cops were checking everything carefully and dumped it out. Had a great time anyways! The highlights I most remember now were the Specials and the Talking Heads. What a great time that was.
I was there, and I certainly remember the checkpoints & the huge skips of bottles: my first experience of Nofuntario! We got there the previous night, to get a good spot; I was woken by Teenage Head, and the next thing I knew some waste-case was taking a shit on the ground about two feet away. Great lineup, but everything else was shit: nothing to drink but warm flat pepsi! Talking Heads made it all worthwhile, coming on at sundown, with their first-ever big funk lineup show.
I was at that show! I had to work that day but made it up there just after the B-52's got offstage late in the afternoon.Absolutely outstanding lineup of acts.Sorry I missed the surprise opening act, Teenage Head. They were responsable for a riot at Ontario Place a few weeks prior and the promotors decided it was best not to keep their appearance unannouced. They were smokin' hot back then. Man, those were the days!
Holy crap, where did that come from? I was there and thought that show was all but forgotten. The Clash were supposed to close the show, but couldn't make it for some reason. Also there, were Talking Heads and Dave Edmunds Rockpile. Thanks for posting, I hope we find more recordings of this great event.
@ajcgn6 I agree! The last 10 years of music progress is lik= a year of high school back in the early 80's for me. Sorry young ppl! But it's true. Thanks for that observation AJ ! Scout Niblett is the best right now
@ajcgn6 Never thought of it that way but your sooooo right. Check this out.....
Top 3 hits in 1975 were from Captain & Tennille (barf), Glen Campbell and Elton John. Top 3 hits in 1980 were from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Blondie and Pink Floyd.
@toiroforcado First, Thanks for uploading this. Second, Just Google "The B-52's Heatwave" And there will be a blog page that has a link to where you can download the whole show. However, Don't click on the first link. Look in the comments for the blog post and you'll find a second, Working link.

Music changed more from 1975 to 1980 than it has since. Probably why it seems like yesterday.
