What I don't get is why everyone immediately believes everything they hear/read. One magazine publishes an article saying about possible actors/actresses to play villians in Nolan's films and everyone just goes nuts and says that it's supposidly been 'confirmed' the best source for the info is probably Empire movie magazine. Johnny Depp isn't the Riddler in the next Batman movie (The Dark Knight Rises). There isn't even going to be a riddler. The villain for the next batman movie will be Bane, played by Tom Hardy. It is up on IMDb

Not that "The Riddler" is a very good character for any actor to portray, just bc it's lame & maybe that's why Carrey did such a lousy job, but, Carrey didn't do such a good job with "The Riddler" & maybe that's why they didn't bring him back...
If this is real, I suspect that Johnny Depp will do a horrible job for the same reason's that Carrey did; so, I pray that this is just a stupid internet rumor.

@MrDanceTillDeath I don't know. I always thought Jim Carrey would've made a better joker than the Riddler. The Riddler has always been a pompous know-it-all with a quite reserve. He wasn't supposed to be as lively and goofy as Jim Carrey portrayed him.

@Natedawg422 clearly you have never seen the original Riddler from back in the Adam West days. he was such a spaz he made Joker look comatose. It wasnt until the Batman cartoon in the '90s that he had the quite reserve, and methodical awesome that i think most people prefer.

Look at the crimes they had him comitting on that show they so bland it's a mockery to the character. There was nowhere to go energy wise but up after that.

What I don't get is why everyone immediately believes everything they hear/read. One magazine publishes an article saying about possible actors/actresses to play villians in Nolan's films and everyone just goes nuts and says that it's supposidly been 'confirmed' the best source for the info is probably Empire movie magazine. Johnny Depp isn't the Riddler. Anne Halhaway is Catwoman and Tom Hardy is Bane.

Jim Carey was good as the Riddler, he brought a lot of Frank Gorsham to the role.
But... the new Batman series is a lot darker and more serious (Heath Ledger's vs Jack Nicholson's Joker, for example), so I think Johnny Depp would be scary as the Riddler. Scary good.

I don't think the Riddler would work with Johnny, I think even though Heath Ledger IS the Joker, and chances are no one will ever live up to his performance, I suppose the next best thing would be Johnny Depp.

@mikosealm you know thats exactly what I thought when I went to watch the second one. I always thought of Jack Nickolson as the 'perfect' joker. But I was wrong. Jack Nicolson is a POOR Heath Ledger Joker.
I am never going to underestimate Nolan's ability to choose characters in his movie. And don't bet on Jim Carrey's Riddler, He was the best Stanley Ipkiss. I think Depp will DEFINE Riddler like no other.
