  • LYING ASSHOLE PROPAGANDA

  • @snarfeater Yes get emotional and call names because refuting his point with a cohesive intelligent point like a big boy is obviously above your intelligence level....typical Con lol!!

  • @EsotericOccultist im sorry i hate when people do that too i just hate obama shills that lie and look like they are full of shit as well hmmm, so where do you think this money comes from, hmmmm let me think.... it must be magic..... or just wasting tax payer money on this bs, and destroying perfectly GOOD cars that could have gone to someone in need. if i want to buy a gas guzzler it is up to me, not the government, none of their business!

  • @snarfeater Very Well said!!!! Exactly!!!! It's just another way the Gov't (mostly the dems) try to have more control over our fucking lives!! They're already trying to control what we drive, what we eat and what we can say!!! If they had their way, the gov't would control EVERYTHING!!! Each and every day, more and more of our rights and freedoms are being destroyed!! I'm sick of it!!! Our founding fathers are probably rolling around in their graves!! It makes me fucking sick!!!!

  • How is the programme being paid for?

  • The Democrats are ALL-KNOWING super beings! They can do no wrong. Put your trust in them and they WILL solve all the earths problems. Cars are bad!!!!!! Shame on you cars!!!! Republicans will kill you and your children! Cars and Republicans kill our babies!( and our souls) I want to suckle the teat of democrat leadership. Sarcasm?

  • @jerywilliams Was that supposed to be your attempt at an intelligent dispute with the host's point? I guess you don't watch much because he puts down dems all the time so your childish sarcasm raveled your lack of understanding rather than anything bad about the hosts support of a democratic program.

  • @EsotericOccultist You're right , i don't watch.---------BORING---- and so are you i would assume.

  • Young Turks are so retarded. can youtube take them off the internet? their so liberal its disgusting. just spew half truths like obama does all the time.

  • @zjumps33 Something called free-speech.

  • @zjumps33 better then spewing hate and crazed jelousy like the facist right.

  • @zjumps33 Half truths that you could not make an intelligent argument against so you chose to take the childish route and name call instead....bravo, you're so superior.

  • @EsotericOccultist ok? bravo, you didnt make a comeback. go troll somewhere else. so tell me, have you do you take these people words as gospel or are you a sheep of the liberal agenda too? i said they do half truths and you come up with nothing but trolling. gj now go back to your hole.

  • Well this guys a dumbass i have seen perfectly good cars destroyed its a shame because i have a pos car can barley keep it running when cars that would drive another 10 years are being destroyed.

  • The cars bought during the cash for clunkers took away from future consumption. The cars that will be produced in the future are going to be on average more fuel efficient than the average car produced now, so in fact this will hurt the environment in the long run!!!

  • This is why people hate America. Destroying perfectly good cars. Also, only an idiot liberal would call something that went 3 X over budget a success. Thanks Obama, for giving my tax dollars to the economy of Japan.

  • Buy now pay later. 10 months same as cash. No interest for a year. 50% more, 10% off, Put it on my tab. People just spend more than they make in hopes to get ahead later. Im sick of sales pitches from a car dealers and presidents and Inc. companies. This country is going to shit and has been sold to the lowest bidder!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Fuel Efficiency:

It takes more energy to make a new fuel efficient car than it takes to opperate a big SUV until it completely expires.

    Economics:

We encouraged people to dispose of assets (working cars) and replace them with debt. In case nobody noticed, we're in a recession brought on by consumers taking on too much debt.

  • .2 percent of american cars have been replaced.

that cant even scratch the surface of the enviroment in america lets not even get started on the world.

only in america will you take money from one person and reward them with it for going into debt to a failing company

  • "the majority scientist say that global warming is real"

I gotta call bullshit on that one. In fact, since the science has shown that there is NO global warming (there has actually been a cooling trend over the last few decades), every one has started calling it "climate change".

  • The clunkers program wasn't aimed at poor people. It was targeting people that already had enough money and good enough credit to afford a new car already. The clunkers program was nothing more than welfare for the well-off.

  • do you know any car dealers?, they will sell to anyone. the trade ins were acting like a down payment for people, so they did not need actual cash, and just because someone is poor doesnt mean they have bad credit.

  • "they will sell to anyone"

Of course they will sell to anyone. But the bank/loan company has to approve the loan.

"so they did not need actual cash"

That is ONLY for the down payment. They still need ACTUAL CASH to be able to afford the hundred plus dollars in monthly payments, plus the cost of having full coverage insurance. If they can afford that, then they aren't poor.

  • unless the down payment was less then what they received for their trade in, but i do agree the whole idea of the program was to get people to spend money

  • I had an old Bronco that has only cost me a few hundred in repairs over the last 14 years. The cars that are made nowadays really aren't made to last so you could end up spending just as much in repairs on a new one. When you add on the price of a NEW car, you can end up paying a lot more over just fixing an older one.

  • You say that this program helps the environment? By any chance did you see how they are destroying the engines in these vehicles. Far more damage is being done than if these cars were left on the road. The reason these people drove crap cars is because they could not afford a new one. What now miss a car payment, house payment, or possibly repo the new rig. Time will show that this program was not a good idea. More bankruptcy problems coming soon!!!

  • They should have given the Clunkers to me, I could have started a car rental agency called "Rent a Clunker"

  • wouldn't it be more logical to let these cars drive on the road until they come to a natural death from high mileage or whatever, and then produce more fuel efficient cars for sale. Cars that were around 30 years ago have mostly been scrapheaped. I don't see the sense in destroying things that still have life left in them. I believe in driving things until they can no longer be driven..

  • I agree with you that a car should be taken to natural death but, the problem is they needed something to jump start the economy and this was it. I have my pathfinder that has 199k miles on it and i will not trade it in. However i do understand the point of this, the fuel efficiency is nice and all but the main purpose is to get the car companies rolling again and they are doing great considering, well besides dodge but they'll catch up.

  • This clunker program helps the liberal unions. Dealers have still not been paid, How can we be out of money??? My dealership sold 169 cars and have been paid for 4. How can this be????????

  • i read a report 90% of the cars have been paid. This was bound to happen and the dealer ships did fear this understandably. Ill wait another month, the gov isn't the fastest organization i know. lol

  • This guy is an idiot. Of course free money is going to be popular. The problem is, why should I pay money through tax dollars for my neighbor to buy a new car? That certainly isn't fair. Then what happens to poor people that depend on buying used cars? 700,000 perfectly good used cars are now off the market thus raising the price on the remaining used cars. The poor people in this country have been shafted.

  • It's actually smart, you just spent $2billion to save a company that has failed, how do yo bring it back up? You invent creative ways to persuade people to massively buy these cars of a failed company of GM, this program will save the American industry and 2.2 million jobs in the US

  • If the Republicans would have used that logic, I would have been fine. However, all they did was argue that it won't work simply because it's Obama's idea. For this, kudos to you.

  • Thats the falsey of total employment. In capitalism if its not needed it dies.

The car industry in the US is not needed. but people want a job so cash is used to prop it up.

More cars than licence holders in the US but production goes on. This is a larger agument about the validity of free market capitalism...

To answer why you should pay, Lowering the oil US burns through indirectly helps you. Employment is the biggest crime fighter so by making some jobs you have less crime.

  • THE YOUNG TURD - Must have been a used car sales men at one time! He sounds like one - LOL!

America got tired of the word -AUTO Bailout! So Obama's & Democrats decided to try in FOOL everyone with this (AUTO BAILOUT) I MEAN - "Cash for Clunkers" renamed deal! Obama is going to praise the numbers then run, hide & lie when the bottom falls out of the Auto market again! Not to mention when the auto loan defaults start to roll in from people that can't afford the new vehicals payments!

  • You are correct. Young Turks are just mouth pieces for the Democratic Socialist Party.....

There are lots of problems built in by the Obama Congress with the Cash for Clunkers Program. The engines have to be render immediately and permanent disabled. No parts can be stripped for rebuilders. The cars have to be shipped to a business that will shredded them into little pieces. Dealers have money flow problems because they have so much money tied up in the program.

  • This liberal asshole doesn't know whats going on. This cash for clunkers deal is all fucked up. I work for a toyota dealership. We sold 166 cars. The dealership has been paid for 4, Thats it "4" The dealership is owed over $450,000. The government hasn't done anything. And this dipshit thinks that the government can run healthcare. THIS TURK IS A LIBERAL DICKHEAD!!!

  • 5141962,

Our local Honda dealer is now having to find engines to replace many of their "clunkers" that failed to qualify. Hurt them more than if the program never existed.

  • Well then that local honda dealer is stupid. MY dealer WAITED to be reimbursed FIRST..... BEFORE handing the keys to their customers. Look at what that waiting did for me. Check my NEW Pontiac G5 on my video called Pontiac G5 cash for clunkers result. I paid $8,100 for it. I paid cash in FULL. No payments. It's already paid for. All I do is insure it and add gasoline.

  • Hey retard, those cars aren't being resold, they're being crushed as a means to pull smog emitters off the roads as well as the gas guzzlers to help bring down gas prices

  • @ 5141962. I told gavincurtis here the same thing: If the dealer doesn't WAIT to be reimbursed FIRST.... BEFORE they hand the keys of the new cars over then it's their fault for being too ignorant and hasty. MY dealer waited. I got a NEW Pontiac G5 an american car made in Ohio. Not a japanese car.... you know the people who gave us pearl harbor.

  • Congratulations, it shows that the dealership you work for sucks...not the program. Also, there is no need to argue with people like you because you offer no facts. Tell me why the government can run Medicare, something your parents or grandparents and millions of other 65 and older people are on, but the government can't run another program.?You are confused between government officials and government funds. This program is ran by the funds it receives. Once you cus, you lose the argument

  • Seattle8686, You need to spend more time doing your homework and coming up with an actual argument to support your facts, but see - that's your real problem, you have no FACTS to base your argument! With Liberals it seems its mostly lip service, and cry baby tactics.

Oh, and by the way, Obama voted for us to go to those "Wars" you speak of, and so did most of your other beloved Democrats. Have you made any negative comments to THEM regarding your feelings?

  • I have my issues with Democrats, nbut they have no spines. They aren't the ones making up things like death panels and illegals being covered by the health plan. Those were lies and fear tactics played by your party. Also, when your party claims that Obama is not a real citizen is YOUR party that is being the cry baby. But back to the point, you say I have no facts based on what? You saying so? Republicans backed away from blocking the cash for clunkers program because it worked. No facts needed

  • Cash for clunkers did nothing but send even more hard earned American tax dollars to "Japan" you liberal Idiot's !!! Why do I say this? - Maybe you should do your Fukin homework smart Ass! The top selling cars during cash for clunkers, was the Toyota Corolla, and the Honda Accord !!!

What the hell is your major malfunction, that you are unable to see that this was a huge failure? American car Co.'s needed the help, and Foriegn car makers got all the money.

  • I feel we are at a cross roads in capitalism. We love the highs hate the lows. Car production or any production for that matter is DEAD west of germany.

So do we essentially keep giving these industries cash?

Education is the key,to keep educating the workforce beyond the Chinese worker is the only way.

France has realised this, free education. American needs to wake up or 20yrs it will read 'made in the US' on every $1 T-shirt.

tip: I just qualified with a masters in physics...

  • This has nothing to do with physics.

  • read in context so you can further avoid strange 1 line posts.

  • the motion of a car depends on the laws of physics...duh!

Oh wait, what are we talking about again...oh yeah...

politicians who sell themselves for votes...

  • The Cash for Clunkers was money that went into GMC/Ford/Chevy etc. Are those Japanese made. Also, it single handedly kept the automotive industry from tanking.

I also heard that "money to Japan" line from Hannity.

If it was a huge failure, then Republicans should have blocked it, even Democrats. But you fail to realize through your profanity and irate personality is that it worked...and your upset that this president, not yours (Bush) fixed it

  • I am in the car business, this program is a joke,I see it first hand. They are paying people to buy Asian cars, they are destroying good vehicles, they are spurring sales that will just create lower future sales, now they claim to create jobs? what about mechanics who worked on the older cars? You turk fucking idiots need to do your homework,I know liberals report their opnions but atleast educate yourself first..THIS was a failure and you want him to run healthcare....wow

  • The cars being collected are being destroyed and scrapped. What if these "clunkers" being purchased were fit with electric motors? Yes, people who are selling their cars for this program are being paid well for their clunkers (at taxpayer expense), and yes, they are purchasing more fuel efficient cars. What is the cost to the environment as these clunkers are being destroyed and not repurposed and resold (which would create more jobs as well),

  • Third, the direction of this country is headed towards healthcare that require the 250K a year Christians to actually be Christian and pay 3% more in taxes for a "public option" which is not a government takeover/socialism. No one was calling Bush a socialist/Nazi dictator when he went to war without congress approval, tortured people who may or may not have been terrorists, and lieing to the public, negligence to New Orleans, and the massive bailout he gave to banks before leaving office

  • To say no one was calling Bush a Nazi after he went to war, is like saying you dont follow news and the protests that took place regarding it. But anyway, enough falling along partisan lines to make a point. I'm in no way a Bush supporter nor will I be a supporter of a President until I see actual progress and not global agendas being pushed through.

  • Obviously you lost the argument of the Patriot Act which Obama does NOT support so you want to move on. Of course. Now you want to shift it to the argument of "well people were calling Bush a Nazi". Not your direct quote but close enough. First, the word Nazi has lost its meaning because it is overused on people who we just don't like and its stupid. No Bush is not a Nazi. He was an idiot who got us into multiple wars, killed certain freedoms, tortured, middle finger to New Orleans, and lied.

  • Dude, whats your point, I'm not a Bush supporter to begin with. All I know is that this administration is more crooked than the last one, and it has become increasingly crooked since Bush Sr. was in office. Bashing Bush doesn't make Obama look any better.

  • My point is that people like you who are confused of the facts lose arguments and when lost, you go onto another subject. Please give me people who are crooked and why. We can add them up and see which administration is more crooked. Also, we do not blame Bush far enough. You need to redirect your anger and frustration to the Bush years and hope that another minority can come in and clean up a white mans mess

  • whoa, don't turn this into a race argument, thats where you will lose.. and, im sorry, but I dont take the liberal approach to things. Plenty of tax cheats are in high positions, not to mention the million czars he pulled out of thin air. Hell the one guy is even a devout Communist, wow yeah.. thats American.

  • Hey seattle - GOOD JOB in using the race card - Ass Hole !!! Thats your whole problem - Thats "ALL" you've got to argue your agenda. I've got some sad news for you - its not going to be enough .....

  • To your last comment of only supporting actual progress, thank you, we need more people like that. Too many want to stay where we are, in a broken healthcare system, in a bubble that America is pure and does no wrong. We can always improve and we start with our wellnes, then onto our environment. But "actual progress", I don't see too much happening with how Democrats act like pussies. 60 seats but do nothing with it. When will they stop cowering to Republicans who do not have a party anymore.

  • Actually, I'm glad that the Democrats have slowed down a little because they realize the people of the United States aren't agreeing with whats going on. I think the Dems got lost in partisan politics, like most majorities do whether Rep or Dem, and now they are taking a step back to look at the bigger picture. The Senior Dems say they are going to force the bill through, but I don't think many of the Democratic Senators who arent of Senior standing agree.

  • Here we go again...no poll has actually said that the public does NOt support a "public option". I have three polls, (pew poll, and two polling points) that overwhelming show large support of a public option but people are duped by Fox news into thinking that Obama wants to socialize healthcare. Again, this "public option" is just like Medicare. Do you support Medicare because it is 30% more efficient, costs less to run because profits are not made for the government who runs it.

  • Second, the reason why they are "taking a step back" is because the longerthey wait the more money they get from healthcare industries. Its not because they actually want to see the big picture, they just want more lobying money. The majority of the American people do not understand how politics work and are confused by propoganda of Fox news,Republicans, and a few Democrats. Most of these politicians do not want change, they want more money and to get re-elected.The poeple do not know the issues.

  • First, Obama does not support the wiretapping included in the Patrio Act. Any person who actually knows about government knows that you have to let the bill run out. The Patriot Act was reauthorized in 2006 and will expire Dec. 31, 2009. So he does not support it. Second, tell me what part of the constitution directly has Obama stepped on. Third, Reagan created D.A.R.E. which has to be the worst drug prevention program unless they decide to get Snoop Dogg as their spokesman.

  • First off, some dealers were letting people get non-efficient cars with the rebate. Secondly, Massive amounts of money have yet to be paid to the car dealers involved in this program. Success? Nope, massive handouts via the Stimulus Package.

  • Even if this keeps our automotive industry from failing, even if each car bought is on average 60% more efficient, Republicans still have to call it a failure. Bush is considered a success with Katrina, 9/11, two wars, massive recession and deregulation, not to mention his wiretapping, and stomping on our constitution. No you won't admit that, but a minority saving one of our biggest industries through common sense tradeins of crappy cars, no that must be a failure.

  • Wait, and I suppose you support Obama who has CONTINUED Bush policies of wiretapping, stomping on the Constitution, and not to mention spending like a madman. In my opinion the country hasn't had a good president since Regan, and hasn't had a "true" president since Kennedy. Let's face it, every President since Bush Sr. has taken this country in a bad direction.

  • "Spending like a madman" is one way of looking at it. However during the height of the global financial crisis the G20 leaders at a meeting in London agreed on a global approach to an acute global problem. This was to introduce a Keynesian macroeconomic approach to this crisis. To summerize this policy: during a contraction in private economic output (a recession) gov't fiscal policy (spending) is increased to balance the economic output. FYI this actually happens during most recessions.

  • I just think its funny how the Stimulus, Omnibus Bill was jammed down Congress' throat to sign quickly, without reading it, and as we saw, it was filled with pork, and the same was trying to be done with this Healthcare bill (in regards of signing quickly). Thank the Blue-dog Dems and others for putting this on hold until people actually know whats in the bill.

  • Looking specifically at the stimulus bill, this had to be signed quickly! One of the major contributing factors to the great depression was that the gov't initially cut spending & raised taxes in an attempt to balance its books. This had disastrous consequences. Given how bad/broken the markets were at the time it seems to me that expediency of the stimulus package was vital to prevent a depression.

Re health care, perhaps I'm naive but 50 mill people have no insurance & that needs changing.

  • First off - there are only maybe 15 million chronically uninsured people in the United States. The rest of the 50 million consists of illegals, people here legally but aren't citizens yet, and also people who have the money to buy insurance, but choose not to. 50 million was the fear number put out in an attempt to gain the support of the people.

  • Actually I dispute those figures but I can't be bothered getting into a statistics debate when there is clearly a lot of differing sats flying around on the same subject. So I'll use yours - so lets discount the illegals & non citizens etc and use your "15 million cronically uninsured people" as a number. The fact that the US has a population the size of Holland's that is uninsured indicates to me that the current system is fundamentally flawed & needs changing. This seems obvious to me. Peace

  • Yes, the system needs tweaked, not turned completely upside down, and definitely not controlled by the government, which is what the current bills will do.

  • Maybe the truth lies somewhere in between? As an ex investment banker, what catches my eye when looking at a business model is return on investment. I've formulated my views on health care the same way. So when I read (in the Economist) that Per capita the US (gov't + private co's) spend more than 3 times greater than their European rivals on healthcare but US citizens don't live any longer or are any more healthy, I consider that a bad investment & the model needs significant modulation.

  • Hey MMG008 DO you really think that gov't run healthcare is really going to fix that ??? I mean - Seriously ???

  • This program was, yet another, poorly thought out, poorly executed government plan that not only didn't work, it's leaving thousands of car dealers who are already struggling holding the paper on these "deals". They had to front the cash for these "clunkers" and are left waiting for who knows how long to get paid with the taxpayers' money. Brilliant. And people want these dopes running healthcare? Now there's a great idea.

  • If cash for clunkers wasn't working, congress wouldn't be expanding it. Congress is increasing spending on this program for one simple reason...it works! Car sales are increasing which is stimulating the automotive industry and the economy. If car dealers didn't like the program, they would protest it. But this just isn't the case. Car dealers love it and so do the many Americans who are getting better cars for a better price.

  • Cash for Clunkers was another poorly thought out, poorly executed attempt at dealing with a problem instead of thinking things through. And that includes those pesky little unintended consequences. The dealers thought it was a good idea, until they got stuck holding the paper. People liked it because it was "free money". People will always line up for free stuff. Nevermind that someone's got to provide that "free money". And most of all the Japanese and Korean car makers loved it.

  • And, just out of curiosity, you are aware that congress pulled the plug on Cash for Clunkers today, right? You know, the day you posted this? Irony - It's not just for breakfast!

  • I guess I have to get uo to speed on my news. I've been camping for the last few days, so I was unaware that cash for clunkers was ending. But nonetheless it isn't ending because it failed, it's ending because it was too popular for some car dealers to handle. It's not ending because it was a failure, it's ending because it was a success.

  • Not exactly a failure in terms of the population, it was a handout. If you ask the car dealerships who are waiting for 500k to 1 million dollars from the US government, they would say its a failure. Most dealers are not doing the program anymore because if they were to continue giving out rebates without getting compensated by the government in a timely manner, they would end up in debt.

  • It wasn't ended because it was a failure but because it was a success?!? I think I just heard the ghost of George Orwell throw up in its mouth a little.

  • Cash for clunkers is ending because some car dealers could no longer afford it. The program was too popular/ successful for them to handle.

  • Couldn't afford what? The car dealers weren't the ones offering the federal "rebate", the federal government was so what the dealers could afford shouldn't have entered into it. What the dealers can't afford was getting left holding the paper, in many cases, to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars. I don't know if you've ever run a small business before, but if you've have, you'll know that you can't extend yourself like that and have it not negatively affect your business,

  • not to mention the government's failure to pay back rebates to the car dealers in a timely fashion.

  • success is paying people to buy items with other peoples money? what planet did you grow up on?

  • I grew up on planet Earth, where success is stimulating the economy and reducing pollution.

  • Congress should think about paying out pending payments to car dealers first, instead of worrying about expanding it. If they can't pay back money to the car dealers now, how will they when they expand it further?

  • Of course it is popular.....and really how much money will ppl save? about $750 a year on gas? how much do your taxes go up then to pay for another four days of this very popular program?

  • Facts on Cash for Clunkers:

    1. 8 of top 10 vehicles are from foreign owned manufactures - Honda, Toyota, Hyundai.

    2. There is 42% part content in these top 10 made in the US or Canada.

    3. Of the 42% many parts are made by Foreign owned manufactures.

This means profits go to Korea, Japan, and China (because that is where Japan and Korea buy sub-components). Our hard tax dollars at work!

These are absolute FACTS! Researched and Documented!

  • ITV: TYT are TYT

  • No...actually it is FAUX News

  • Save the clunkers!

  • Wow, this reporter is an idiot.

  • Why not just give people a tax cut so that they can but whatever they want instead of japanese made cars?

Oh wait, its because democrats are allergic to economic growth and allowing people to have control of their own money.

  • I find this comment typical of people who've already forgotten the last 8 years...

Remember those $500 checks W. Bush sent out to stimulate the economy? Yea, you don't remember because it DIDN'T WORK. Those that qualified for it either saved it or used it to pay interest on their rising debts.

It's time to give other ideas a try...

  • And i was against that stimulus as well.

    So whats your point?

Is it the democrats mantra to say WELL YOU DID IT SO CAN WE?

    Grow up.

  • There was a tax cut, it just wasn't in the form of a lump sum check. Income taxes went down for those making under 250K a year. The only plan that will "raise taxes" for anyone is the one he's said from the beginning about letting the bush tax cuts die. Which will raise taxes for those making more than 250K a year. So yeah have fun spending your tax cut.

  • Oh and don't spend it on a Korean TV like everyone did with the Bush tax cut. And if you were against the bush tax cut... to quote you : "Why not just give people a tax cut so that they can but whatever they want instead of japanese made cars?" How is what you're suggesting different from what bush did?

  • Bushs was a one time check. A tax cut has a more substantial impact when its done over time.

And not a $7 tax cut. LOL

  • Hey Shotty101, why don't you look up what the U.S. Small Business Administration had to say about the Bush tax cuts. The Bush tax cut did alot for small businesses. Allowing them to "die" is going to create major problems for small businesss and hurt tax revenue and economic growth. But hey, what do they know right?

  • Elections have consequences. Your side lost. From the very start Obama said that these cuts were going to be allowed to sunset. Obama won a landslide election and people knew exactly what he was going to do. Stop whining, and at least be thankful that the smart people are back in charge and that we won't be lied into another unnecessary war.

  • Is that........ "Liberal Elitism" .......roaring its ugly head??? Please continue. Oh and you too should check profiles before make accusations on the war. And I can only hope we all are learning from the consequences!

  • Screw your profile. I could care less. The war was an enormous mistake. The tactical errors were enormous, but in sum they still pale in comparison to the strategic mistakes. You are out of your league.

  • You make absoluly no sense, "but in sum they still pale in comparison to the strategic mistakes"? What??? "You are out of your leage"?? Number one we are still in a War, that is being ramped up by this adminastration.

  • It was a tactical mistake to try and fight Iraq on the cheap with less than 200,000 pairs of boots on the ground; it was a strategic mistake to empower Shi'ites when they will in time form a strong theocratic alliance with the Iranians. Iraq was the greatest strategic error in the history of American foreign policy. Do you understand the difference between tactical and strategic?

  • As for this discussion, the reason I wrote you should look at my profile is because I was never for the war. I agree with Ron Paul on the issue. I think we again can agree that we both think that the Iraq war was a mistake. I think you have taken me the wrong way. We most likely agree on more issue's than you would think. I was also in the military for 9 years so yes I know the difference between tactical & strategic.

  • Sailorsteve why don't you go look up who the obama tax cuts benefit the most. (Hint it begins with "s" and ends with ''mall businesses").

Oh and "liberal elitism" is a lame-ass phrase used as an excuse to level the playing field. Think about it: if your best comeback is "our opponents are flaunting being smart!" then you need to work on your line of reasoning. Or are you saying that being elitist is excluding people? Because if it is may I remind you that we are the majority.

  • You show me where that is published? You should read the following, U.S. SBA Office of Advocacy's 2008 edition of "The Small Business Economy: A Report to the President". You can look up this report it is a public record. You really need to read pages 147-153. As for the "elitism", I'll let the people on here deciede. I also remember 2006 and what happened when one side had to much power.

  • You mean the $7 a month tax cut?

Yeah thats a real stimulus. LOL

Did you happen to miss the recent news with Geithner and Larry summers saying we will HAVE to raise taxes on the middle class.

    Im sure you did.

  • The Republican party is like the Whig Party now. LOL!!!

  • I just don't get how this makes sense? You want people to destroy something that they own and is an asset and has value so they can go in depet? Plus how many of these cars that are being bought where made here in America? I also don't see how this gets us off oil. How about this if your going to spend taxpayer money, why don't you give a rebate to have autos that get 18 mpg or less converted to natural gas? Hey aren't we like the largest supplier of that? Plus isn't that cleaner.

  • Perhaps I can enlighten you. This program is designed to eliminate cars that have bad fuel economy and/or are a bottomless pit for money with repairs that are probably worth about 800 dollars total. That means the car probably won't pass inspection anyway. It gives the people a chance to buy a new car (not that 4500 is enough for a new car, but it's a helluva down payment).

  • In regards to natural gas: that's a completely impractical solution. First of all a car can't run entirely off natural gas. In order to get it partially running off of natural gas you would have to have 2-4 enormous canisters of it somewhere in your car. The car would not be able to accelerate as quickly, and max speed would drop, which is because the heat content (or latent heat) of gasoline is much higher than natural gas. Natural gas is also not that much cleaner than gasoline.

  • Ultimately electric cars would be the best solution to the problems you're thinking of (especially since they've made one that travels more than 200 miles per charge), but you won't see that going anywhere anytime soon. I highly recommend the video "who killed the electric car" which deals with that issue. In any case this is a hell of a lot better than anything bush ever did to try to solve any of those problems which would be... let's see... nothing at all.

  • The problem that people overlook when it comes to electric cars is: where does the electricity come from hm?

  • I don't see how natural gas is impractical, almost all South American countries use it, most of our major city cabs and buses use it and most cars that get less than 18mpg are suv's,trucks and large cars. The canisters are not as large as you may think. There are many companies that have systems where the tank fits where your spare tire resides. As for the car not accelerating properly, you should check out "Mothers ProPane Chevelle". It made 1000hp. So please continuie to enlighten me.

  • I have no issue with electric cars. They are fine for local commuting. Why did the electric car die??? Government!! A true free market was already moving toward alternative transportation, but who put a stop to it....Government! Now who is getting involved....Government! Government never solves anything. We do! We should be the ones telling industry what we want... not the Government!

  • The electric car died because nobody wants it.

People dont want to have to plug in every so often to take a long trip. Its not convienient.

But I agree with you, government never solves anything.

  • Quite frankly I view the government as a body who pools the resources of the people to better society as a whole. I agree that if they aren't doing that it's a problem, but to say they don't solve anything is quite an uneducated proclamation. With any issues with electric cars or natural gas powered cars aside, I would definitely like to see progress in the way of alternative energy. The cash for clunkers program is just to get people driving old, bad cars to drive cars with better gas mileage.

  • That benefits both the people driving the cars, and the greenhouse emission levels. But it's not like he's forcing anyone to do it. Oh and just to remind you, Obama is doing what the majority of America wants. Remember that election thing? He got elected from a majority. Or are you saying majority is only applicable for republicans?

  • Being elected does not mean you can do what you want and claim its justified because you were elected by a majority.

He wants healthcare to pass and over 70% of the population doesnt. Is he doing that for the majority as well>?

    LOL

  • Ok Shottty101, please show us one thing that government clearly solved. Not an opnion, solved. As for benefitting greenhouse emission levels, maybe you should read what Michael Gerrard (Director of the Center for Climate Change Law at Columbia Law School) had to say about CFC and "carbon dioxide payback time". As for forcing, try not paying your taxes and see what happens. Oh, you may want to educate yourself and look at my profile before making proclamations involving republicans and me.

  • A small list of obvious US Government wins: War of 1812 - curbing British impressment, Civil War - end of slavery, WW I & WW II - curbing fascism, the Marshal Plan - transformed former enemies into trusted trading partners, Interstate highway system, Tennessee Valley Authority and innumerable public works projects of the New Deal that helped life expectancy soar from the early 50's until the early 70's for Americans, universal education K-12, Child Labor protections...I could go on all day

  • Ok so all of those where strickly solved by the government. So the American people had nothing to do with any of those things. The politicians just came up with all the solutions right. I clearly made the point that the American people make things happen. So Americans should just thank the Government for all those accomplishments and we should all just lay down and let Obama do as he wants. I guess you would consider that a "win for government" also.

  • You make no sense whatsoever. Yes it was politicians that decided to implement the Marshall Plan, it was politicians that decided to pass the New Deal, etc. You wingers are losing your minds.

  • So ok, no outside businesmen, labor leaders etc, where giving advise on the Marshall plan?? Now the "New Deal", so like bankers, farmers, railroads, leader of Industry etc, had no hand in that what so ever?? I know someone who doesn't depend on the government to hand them everything wouldn't make sense to you! And to think this all started because I though natural gas in cars would be a good idea.

  • Funny how you would include the railroads and leaders of industry when Truman was essentially battling them for his entire 6 years in office, during the entire implementation of the Marshall Plan. For argument's sake, I will stipulate that the Government had help with these successes. So the credit goes to both the Government and outside agents, which in turn destroys your original premise that the Government never did/does anything well. So endeth the lesson.

  • AU contrair monfair, I wrote government never clearly solved anything not did/does anything well. The Government has always needed the input of the people. But to say the people need the government to solve their problems for them in my opinion is just not true. Anyway Shottty101 brought the government into this discussion. I would have just stuck to CFC. I'm not for no government just limited. I take it your for big? I think we both can just agree to disagree. Is that fair?

  • If we could harness the oil that comes off this fat losers face we would be energy independent.

  • you know all i hear form repubs is basically everything obama does a is a fuck up. well a hard core friend of mine said that the presidentcy is about 4 years behind, so screw bush, and hannity, and glenn beck, and dick morris, ect.

  • This program is messed, since you can only trade in NEW cars. If somebody has a 1970 car that gets like 10mpg they can not trade it in. Makes no sense to me.

  • For the very poor the program overall should have a positive effect.

Most won't have the credit for a new car.

But on the cars traded in -- the junk dealers will have 180 days to take off parts (except the engine).

This should make more parts available to keep their old cars running for the very poor & probably at a bit lower costs.

  • its just a short term financial boost. The economy is going to slump again. There are few fuel efficient cars on the market and they are expensive or they cannot fit a large family. Again cant someone get a useless car from a junkyard and trade it in?

  • you shame the man in blacks legacy.

  • PROUD TO BE A LIFELONG DEMOCRAT, thank you for reminding me of just one more reason why...

  • popularity of a bill has nothing to do with impact.

the govt could introduce a bill saying they'll give everyone $1 million dollars, (because they can make money from thin air) and it would be wildy popular, but it's overall impact would be terrible.

cash for clunkers is the same thing, on a smaller scale. Decent automakers can do well on their own.

  • who's talking about a million dollars?

For every $4500 investment we stimulate the economy by $25000. that's a good thing

  • In whose universe? $4500 is $4500.

  • A good point I heard was, since all these cars are being crushed, It will devistate the used car market makeing cars unavaliable for the lower class.

And some who cash in on this can't actually afford the cars they are getting and they will get repoed within a year or two leading to serious economic problems.

    +TYT is bias

  • Very good points. They are putting a silicone substance in the engine, and running them until they detonate. The vin numbers are then tagged so they can never be put on the highway again.

You should see the latest smog laws, due to hit the books next year. They're going to devestate the poor, and destroy whatever used car market remains

  • Lower income people still can not buy a car with the $4500 rebate. Perfectly good cars are getting destroyed and out of the market. Lower income people rely on these cars in the market and buy them for a few grand.

The government devalues the dollar with more useless spending and ruins the lower income car market.

  • it seems to me like the democrats are the ones trying to cover stuff up. there are more important things to be talking about than the cash for clunkers

  • This young Turk must have a hairy back!

  • Visit NAKED EMPEROR NEWS to hear the real Obama.

    NO private insurance.

    Single payer in 10 years.

    THAT IS THE GOAL.

LISTEN TO IT IN HIS OWN WORDS.

  • MeLikeGoFast, still spamming for the GOP I see!

If you really supported limited government, you would propose withdrawing the government-sponsored charters of Aetna, UnitedHealth, Cigna and the rest.

But you don't - why? Because you don't really support limited government.

  • I support the party that offers the LEAST amount of government.

    Neither one is perfect.

Glad to see I have an impact. ;)

  • You'd rather have 12 major Ministries of Insurance chartered by the government rather than 1 Ministry of Insurance?

You are for the MOST amount of government evidently.

"Glad to see I have an impact"

Not sure it's the impact you're hoping for.

  • The fact you remember my name is impact enough.

I would rather have the government get out of the way and let the open market do what it has to. All the problems in healthcare are due to the government and not the insurance companies.

Again, neither party is perfect but one is far worse, AND IT AINT THE REPUBLICANS.

  • how do you figure that umm all these problem were around before you all started whining about socialism. oh and by the way how do public schools get funded, taxes. why should i have to pay for a kid to go to school i dont have one. also i have suffered and dealt with supposed doctors in our mighty u s for three years they fuck you plain and simple and they do waste money im experioancing right now .

  • Youre comment is incoherent.

  • Statistically THE WORST PRESIDENT EVER!

    YES, WORSE THAN BUSH.

  • where is ana?

  • Obama failing hard, and I LOVE it!

The media dariling is goin down!

No hope and change, dread and the same!

  • Hey Dillon X, There were plenty of us protesting the Bush years. Mainstream media did not show you. There were plenty of protests. By the way, adding debt to decrease debt makes sense to you? Please explain

  • Young Turks, you are getting a response regretfully again. Please get off youtube. You hurt my feelings like those "mob" scenes against Obamacare. Boohoo , wahhh, now go fuck off

  • Young Turks: Ummmm, again, how is dumping $3 billion into a program helping to make money, when you're in the hole for $3 billion? If someone couldn't afford a new vehicle before, I don't see where $4500 will help them to make payments. Looks like a housing-crisis on wheels.

  • Of the 3 billion that goes into the program, a very large percentage of that is instantly re-couped in the salvaging of the "clunkers". Also, from the money that is handed out, a large amount of that will also be re-couped in taxes.

  • What about the low income people that you are depriving cheap cars of? Casualty of war?

  • This is same as the financing that caused the problem, but this time USA gov't provides the capital directly. 'course $3B is barely $3000 millions, so ...

"Housing crisis on wheels". I like that.
