I actually don't dislike playing hotkey mmos, in fact I really do like it. I love skill based games as well, but I prefer that in shooters or hack 'n slashes or whatever. I like to keep some degree of the traditional turn-based rpg in many of the mmos I play. I'm definitely not against a more skill based mmo, but I don't think I'd play it as much.

If you want a good,origional MMO, try free allegiance. Excellent, highly skillbased space combat sim. Its a free community re-release of an old pc game, tons of fun.
I got stale of MMOs in this day and age too. I decided to try APB Reloaded and it is really fun. Its like Saints Row 2 with 2 factions, character/car customization, and just overall great gameplay.

Anyone whose in NA, Australia, or New Zealand, can play Dragon's nest that just openned for OB 3 days ago. Its a 3rd person shooter style MMORPG, dungeon based not Open world btw, and combo heavy. Still technically uses hotkeys, but they require aiming etc. Really great game, anyone who can play should give it a try. Free to play as well.

Saints Row the MMO, players could join/create gangs. have associated ranks within the gang and the game in general have a skill system allowing players to specialize in a type of weapon or genralize and have a crafting system- Machanic(Improve the gang's vehicles) Chemist(make cash for the gang) Weaponsmith (Improve the gangs weapons) Hacker (iformation specialist.)
TB Playing Multiplayer The Ship would make my day so hard. Imagine his commentary as he wanders around a ship hunting down his target while he's hunted as well. He'd be freaking out at the intenseness awesomely.
@Mrterranz yeah, and you have to choose wether to be infected, starting off in a lab quarintine with a rediculus ammount of health and a single wepon (zombie's can only use melee wepons) or a human starting out in the same lab, only not in a quarintine, you choose wether to guard the base, or just to run for your life with a shotgun and a few friends (bots)

Oh, Jumpgate! I remember playing its beta when I was young. I liked that it was sort of skill based. Before they nerfed torpedos, there was a gang of headhunters/pirates (IceHawks) that used cheap beginner ships to kill high value/level targets. With enough skill and patience you could also kill the strongest AI fighter 1v1 with such a little bird - quite an intense fun.
Beside from being the first MMO I played, it was also the one I played longest. Todays button-mash-MMOs really turn me off.
That is why monster hunter needs to come to the west, its the best skill based game there is and monster hunter frontier looks like it would be an insane MMO.
The PSN event ended a day early. Then it was extended another day to two. I thought I missed it on the original last day, but then was able to download the titles the next day.

Well, my MMO needs will be fulfilled, SWTOR is coming out and it will have a stronger emphasis on choice and story, something i have always missed from playing a RPG and then Bioware is bringing this into a MMO environment, playing at Comic-Con a few days ago, the combat felt "epic" , not hit 1 fire gun, it actually felt good. The flashpoint "black talon" was a level 10 "dungeon", very cool. Looking forward to TOR, hope you check it out TB.

I never buy single player games until they drop to £25 (from £40) and even more if I don't "need" a game at the time. This October onwards I won't be getting a lot of big names. I'll be waiting until February at least for some seeing as I'll have other games to fill my time.
Let’s be honest if you’re looking for skill in the PVE side of an MMO than your looking in the wrong place. People need to wake up and see that there is going to be no skill involved in leveling your character from 1 to whatever the level cap is for the game you play. The real skill comes from PVP!
@adamhalcrow Erm i hope you got a good example, cus half of the pvp is or based on gear, or based on class.
You always have the same team compositions in arena modes and people with the highest gear just crush the low ones. PvP is never about skills, its about memorizing wich button to press next on your big macro list
@jeppyjoh See, this is largely dependent on current balance and, importantly, rank. Wow pvp for example is a button mash fest because they have "balanced" around 1500 bracket where people cant play so a few specs dominate with 2 buttons at top ranks. If you actually play at high levels when its balanced, timing and positioning is everything.

Ahh, how true... I'm a pretty avid player of APB, and I continue to play it despite it's problems because it's idea is so very, very awesome. I would love to see someone...or even G1 step up the idea to make something proper. As in, you know, minus huge lag problems, small maps, and vectorized graphics so everything isn't...pixelized. Cause really, custom content plus clan ass kicking plus 3rd person shooting shooting is really really fun. :)

Somehow I think a game like Mount & Blade would make one hell of an MMO. Provided it's properly balanced and adds different forms of skills/classes of course. Actually, just the mechanics of M&B would be good for an MMO (proficiencies instead of skill points, having to aim, etc).

I don't think that the MMORPG needs redefining in the fact that you can't have fantasy worlds, GW2 will have skill based combat(real dodging + movement etc), although it won't have real aiming.

I never buy single player games until they drop to £25 (from £40) and even more if I don't "need" a game at the time. This October onwards I won't be getting a lot of big names. I'll be waiting until February at least for some seeing as I'll have other games to fill my time.

Let’s be honest if you’re looking for skill in the PVE side of an MMO than your looking in the wrong place. People need to wake up and see that there is going to be no skill involved in leveling your character from 1 to whatever the level cap is for the game you play. The real skill comes from PVP!

@adamhalcrow Erm i hope you got a good example, cus half of the pvp is or based on gear, or based on class.
You always have the same team compositions in arena modes and people with the highest gear just crush the low ones. PvP is never about skills, its about memorizing wich button to press next on your big macro list

@jeppyjoh See, this is largely dependent on current balance and, importantly, rank. Wow pvp for example is a button mash fest because they have "balanced" around 1500 bracket where people cant play so a few specs dominate with 2 buttons at top ranks. If you actually play at high levels when its balanced, timing and positioning is everything.

listen youtube, Congress is considering passing a bill that could shut down gaming videos and streams. It's called Bill S.978. This bill would shut down TBs channel and channels like yogscast, machinma and other gaming channels all over the internet would be shut down. Please research more information about this bill because i can't type it all. I never say this in the comments, but please thumb this up so people see and copy and paste to other gaming videos

Ahh, how true... I'm a pretty avid player of APB, and I continue to play it despite it's problems because it's idea is so very, very awesome. I would love to see someone...or even G1 step up the idea to make something proper. As in, you know, minus huge lag problems, small maps, and vectorized graphics so everything isn't...pixelized. Cause really, custom content plus clan ass kicking plus 3rd person shooting shooting is really really fun. :)

about the 2nd mail the game you are looking for tb is called star sonata try it out i found it a decent game when i used to play its p2p but has a trial/f2p compnent. It has been around for quite a long time which is the games only real problem. its got a small comunity & unfortunatly its gotten stagnant,

Somehow I think a game like Mount & Blade would make one hell of an MMO. Provided it's properly balanced and adds different forms of skills/classes of course. Actually, just the mechanics of M&B would be good for an MMO (proficiencies instead of skill points, having to aim, etc).

@Iamtidal As interested as I am in Guild Wars 2 (it looks like its going to be fun), can we stop pretending that MMOs like that are going to be amazingly revolutionary and different? its going to be your basic fantasy MMO, and there's nothing wrong with that. It may do some things differently, but by no means will it be revolutionary. That's not to say it won't be good, but seriously...

@rwest0 I suppose it will still be an MMORPG, but for its genre it will be revolutionary, I agree that it will still be a fantasy MMO. I don't think that the MMORPG needs redefining in the fact that you can't have fantasy worlds, GW2 will have skill based combat(real dodging + movement etc), although it won't have real aiming.
