Now that you mention, I can see it would be hard to imagine her afraid of the water, but ooooh she was! Ran from it, wanted nothing to do with and I had to carry her kicking and whiney out into it waist high and gently lower her into the water so she'd be forced to swim back to shore - and she HATED it...until she grew to LOVE it, look at her now! She's my little fish-dog, can't keep her out it now. Poodles are water dogs and have webbed paws, I knew it was only a matter of time.
lol that's OK, my Dad does the same thing - he had a male poodle for 17 yrs and he refers to Raisin as "she" and at times, accidentally calls her by his passed poodle's name, Fritz.
Raisin is adorable. What a good little swimmer. My Tater Dude is a cream colored poodle and he would have swam right for the murkies part of the water. He loves to come out all green and slimey. Eeeew. Raisin is the best!
Oh Michelle, I just found this video. It brings back so many good memories of my dog MacGregor(female-mutt-golden retriever mix). Smartest dog I ever had or met. How she loved to fetch and swim. I remember at Mich State on the river, she would always find something( a stick) and drop it in front of you.
What a great name - MacGregor! Aren't dogs the best thing in the world? So loving and sooooo entertaining. I love watching them play in the water and am sad summer is over :-( I'm glad this brought back good memories of MacGregor for you!
Hi Michelle! I took Aggie's vid iff my channel - I got so many friend requests and subs from people with Scotties that I made her her own channel and sent the Scotty fans over there so I could do "people" stuff on my own channel :0) Thanks for letting us squat on your land for a few days :0)
My pleasure Liz! I'm so happy you decided to pop your video cherry in a response to one of my videos. I'm honored! I set up a seperate account to share with family and friends just videos of Raisin, so I certainly understand the logic. Send me a link to the Aggie channel please!
OMG I just came by your page to send you an e-mail to to tell you your the greatest person ever and saw this video on there!!! Wonder why it didn't appear on my subscription list of vids??? Weird!! Anyways I just enjoyed the heck out of watching Raisin fetching!!! My chow won't do water ;( Anyways while I'm here in the comments I just wanna say YOUR THE BEST MICHELLE!!! A REAL FRIEND~ Love ya, ilene888 *kisses raisin*
Thanks Ilene! I love this little puppy to pieces! You get back what you give out, you've always been so good to me, so it's only right to give that back to you - you're such a groovy chick and you know I adore you.
Yes, isn't that cool - they're water dogs with webbed paws! Her bestest friend is a Portuguese Water Dog, so watching the two of them play in the water is great fun. I hope all is well with you, too dear lady!
I made it for my Dad since he can't get out to this place in his wheelchair and I wanted him to see what I taught her. I loaded it on an account I made just for Raisin videos, but decided to post it here also.
Raisin is lucky to have such a patient owner. Though you may already know this, here is something I found on Wikipedia:
"The name poodle comes from the German word Pudel, which is short for Pudelhund, which means "splashing dog". This reflects the breed's former use as a retriever of water (the word Pudel is related to the English word puddle)."
Thanks Dan, that means a lot and I'm lucky to have her! Yes, I did see that and it's what helped me not give up, I kept telling her she's supposed to like the water. She also has webbed paws, for swimming! A liking for the water has been bred out of the smaller poodles over the years, they were bred to be lap dogs due to their smaller size, so I just had to bring her inherent love of water out in her. Success!
I don't swim in that pond, it has no shore and the rocks drop off at the water line so it would be too hard to get back out (dogs make it look easy!) But I do swim with her in other ponds - there are so many of them around here.
Raisin is such a cute name for that cuuuuute dog! My Scottie dog, Agnes, loooooves water but, like you, I had to coax her in a couple of times first. Damn near gave me a nervous breakdown, though, she hopped into a canal in Munich and sank like a stone! A friend of mine reacted more quickly than I did and reached in and plucked her out. Now she swims like a champ! I think I will make a video response to this as my first video ever!
well, that might take a few tries, so stay tuned. I just tried filming her jumping into her favorite summer toy, her kiddie pool, but she got distracted by a squirrel and nearly decapitated me and broke my webcam with her lawn leash! :0)
Those dang squirrels! I got Raisin a kiddie pool for the backyard, wants no part of it. Funny, she'll jump like a champ into a deep pond, but won't step one paw in the kiddie pool! Eeks, don't break the camera! I'd love to see that video if you can get it and yeah! Your first video!
I love Scotties! I was worried Raisin would have trouble in the water the first time in deep water, so I went in with her several times and held my hands under her while she learned to dog paddle. I'd LOVE to see a Scottie swimming!
Thanks Linsay, I wasn't real crazy about it at first (Dad picked the name), but it's grown on me. I have my own nicknames for her that I seem to use more. And yes, she does look like a raisin! When her hair is grown out, she looks like a Teddy Bear.
Ha, you're like me, I love watching dogs jump in and swim. She has a pal (Sophie, the back dog in the video) who loves to swim, but she doesn't jump in, she tip-toes in like a lady, and that's funny to watch, too.
Well, I had one major thing on my side - poodles are water dogs, even have webbed paws. I just had to bring it out in her. And yes, she LOVES it, will jump in after that ball all day if I let her. Cats and water crack me up - have only known one who liked it.
Thanks Elaina! I think I actually learned more about patience and persistence from her than she learned about swimming from me. She definitely makes me a better person (so do you! I learn a lot about open mindedness from you!) I might be able to help you with Linus!
Raisin barks at everyone who comes near the door and I try to get her to stop, but for some reason she learned only to not bark at the mailman! She goes ballistic for anyone else at the door, but for some reason now doesn't make one peep when it's the mailman. Maybe I'm in the wrong profession?
That's how I view kids and am in awe of them - no fear, all fun. Sad, we lose that along the way. And yes, her no fear amazes me considering how fearful she was to even step one paw in the water just months ago. We could learn a lot from kids and dogs, that's for sure.
LMAO Gayle, I think a cat would kick your ass if you even tried! I've met only one cat in my life that liked water. I was content she learned to swim, the jumping in stuff she learned on her own just cracks me up!
i searched "jumping in a chocolate poodle" and this came up

I wish i was your dog, we could play all day long, i could hump your leg...........It would be fantastic....peace baby.

You're so funny. Ha, I purposely got a female dog so my legs would remain hump free, so they're all yours. Hope all is well with you.
Michelle5451 4 years ago
All is good with me........now that i have permission to hump those legs. Question: what do you do for a living?
