Lennox was a wonderful fighter, A great specialist as he said himself in this interview. Mike was well past his best at stage. Take nothing away from lennox's legacy. A Mike Tyson from 86-90 beats lennox lewis. A top 3 of all time in those years. Prison killed him, Don King killed him.
Mike gave the Lewis dues respect for a clean fight.Lewis wasn't tryin to disrespect Tyson or anythang,he went up and just do his thang,he just kept throwing punches until Tyson fade out...
A clean and fair fight,i got mad respects for Lewis for fighting clean.Holyfield head budded too much, that's why his ear came off.Mike ain't holding no grudges with Lewis,he knew it was a real fight and a clean clear victory...
I think what Lennox said was so true. Mike Tyson hit his peak in his late teenage years and early 20's. And had the kind of style that would only carry you so far. When Mike ran into good boxers with good jabs and could take his punch, he faltered. I.E. (Holyfield, Lewis, and Buster Douglas for one night in Tokyo. And personally. I think a prime Bowe would have ripped him too. Just my opinion.
Evander Holyfield - Lennox cleverly waited until Holyfield was 37 years old to finally muster up the courage to fight him. Holyfield had already once retired with a congenital heart defect and looked a shadow of his late 90s-Early 90s prime. After Holyfield winning a controversial decision against Vaughn Bean in 1998, Lennox Lewis still needed a favour off the judges despite Holyfield being washed up
@JoeCalzagheTheCoward And all this stuff about his weak chin?? shit,i only remember him going down twice but i could be wrong..Which is less than both Tyson and Ali,jesus,Holyfield lost fucking TEN.Im pretty sure that if Ali had been from any country except the US you'd say he was shit as well.
Wednesday, 15 October 2008 | It's the aftermath of a heavyweight shock and Simon Baker discuses the fall-out
But in terms of legacy, which is what Lewis now insists he is fighting for, would an Ali, a Holmes, a Tyson or a Holyfield have ever been knocked out twice by single shots from top end journeymen no matter how ill prepared they were?
@JoeCalzagheTheCoward Hey first off man im not disputing the fact that Hollyfield was a great fighter, actually one of my favs,a true proffesional who trained like an animal. The only thing im disputing is the lack of respect your giving Lewis,by ur own facts Hollyfield was a great, respected fighter, yet he was beaten TWICE by 'Lummox Lewis' How did it happen if Lewis was so shit? Luck?
And i cant believe at all the stick the Americans giving Lewis,Jesus this guy below has put Hollyfield at no 10 of all time but Lewis kicked his ass TWICE, though the first time as spike lee said 'Stevie Wonder must of been marking the cards' Yanks just didn't wanna give it up.Similar thing the other week with Amir Khan, crooked as fuck.
@mckeeclyde Measured Against All Time: Evander Holyfield
12/27/ 2008
Ring selected Holyfield third best Heavyweight of all time behind only Muhammad Ali and Joe Louis. In 2002, Ring selected him the 22nd best fighter of the last 80 years, up from number 44 on a pre-Tyson win 1996 list of best fighters of the last 50 years.
Beyond titles, Holyfield was recognized as Ring Magazine’s Fighter of the Year in 1987, was the Boxing Writers Association of America’s choice in 1990,1996 and 1997.
Lewis was a great boxer but Tyson was an animal in his prime, only fighter i used to stay awake till 4am here in the UK to watch. He should personaly kneecap those hangers on in the corner for letting him get into that shape,he didn't wanna go on at the end of the 7th.
If Sonny Liston truly had not lost his cool, had not underestimated a young Cassius Clay; and kept the same mind set that he had as a contender, history would have been a lot kinder to him. Sonny Liston could not believe Muhammad Ali was so fast and had so much courage. It just made him fall apart.
9. Floyd Patterson.
The First Two-Time Heavyweight Champion of the World.
@JoeCalzagheTheCoward Don't know about that. I'd rank Sonny Liston in the top 10, but Floyd Patterson and Mike Tyson? Tyson dind't beat the best in his era, so I wouldn't rank him over Holyfield or Lewis. And Patterson had, to me, to weak a chin to be ranked in the top 10. And what about George Foreman? He would eat Tyson up and I think he'd kill Marciano aswell. To me it is 1): Ali 2): Joe Louis 3): Foreman 4): Marciano 5): Frazier 6): Jack Johnson 7):S. Liston and from there on it is hard to say
@michaelyouth RING Magazine's Top-50 All-Time Heavyweights Dec 26 2005, 05:36 PM 1. Muhammad Ali 2. Joe Louis 3. Evander Holyfield 4. George Foreman 5. Larry Holmes 6. Rocky Marciano 7. Sonny Liston 8. Joe Frazier 9. Jack Johnson 10. Jack Dempsey 11. Ezzard Charles 12. James J. Jeffries 13. Jersey Joe Walcott 14. Mike Tyson 23. Riddick Bowe 32. Lennox Lewis
A phenomenon. What Mike Tyson was able to do with his speed of hand and punching power is as phenomenal as what Muhammad Ali did when he was Cassius Clay with speed of feet. Tyson deserves to be in the top ten; this is where I put him, the youngest man to become Heavyweight Champion of the World.
Put him down as the GREATEST MAN to ever box, and a hero bigger than boxing. Once Ali lost his speed, it only showed that he'd never developed a great defense.
5. Joe Frazier.
Only because he depended solely on his left hook do I rate Joe Frazier below Marciano. Marciano could hit with both hands.
6. Jack Dempsy.
Jack Dempsy's very name means strength and courage. Other than Joe Louis, there is not a name in boxing or in sports with more meaning.
Tyson begging for another fight in the interview at the end was embarrassing?! Thanking Lewis for the pay day? His heart wasn't even in it and it was all about money and paying off his debt
Prime Tyson this prime Tyson that. Tyson was the real bum who fucked his own life up. Every time a Brit beats one of your fighters we hear same old shit. Just for once accept it and be gracious about it. I'd for one would have more respect for you in doing so.

@plustennis That's why the call Lennox Lewis "the vulture", he waits and waits until people are washed up, he was a coward but who can blame him with that sponge cake chin?
@JoeCalzagheTheCoward No-one calls him that, apart from insane fuckwits like you. In fact if you listen at 6:35 George Foreman says 'He is no doubt the greatest heavyweight of all time.'
When was Tyson in his prime? Maybe the first 3 1/2 years of his professional career (do the math). That he lost his prime after that was entirely his own fault! In 1989 Frank Bruno made him look bad. @robertd1253 Lewis was a total bum, Tyson needed to be totally fat untrained and addicted to drugs for any chances of Lummox Lewis beating him.
Lummox would have no chance of beating Tyson until he was over 230lbs (any time including and after he fought Brian Nielson) not training and smoking marijuana. Same can be said for Kevin McBride and Danny Williams.
the reason why mike wasnt at good shape anymore began obviusoly whit the dead of jim jacobs. then don king came in tysons life and after that kevin rooney and teddy atlas got fired. because of that he didnt trained well enough and was overconfident.

@bravepills fighters hit their prime at different ages you silly fuck...... Hopkins hit his peak @40....... Tyson hit his peak @21....... a 21 year old prime Tyson rips Lewis to shreds no matter what stage in Lewis's career.
WTF, who are the commentators? I hear George Foreman and Larry Merchant, but the commentators were Jim Lampley and Bobby Cyzz. WTF happened to Lamply and Cyzz???
@XOTITANOX what does him being muslim have to do with anything? this is a boxing video. are you one of those Americans that have been brainwashed by fox news and believe muslims want to kill you?
"I was gonna rip his heart out. I'm the best ever. I'm the most brutal and vicious, the most ruthless champion there has ever been. No one can stop me. Lennox is a conqueror? No! He's no Alexander! I'm Alexander! I'm the best ever. I'm Sonny Liston. I'm Jack Dempsey. There's never been anyone like me. I'm from their cloth. There is no one who can match me. My style is impetuous, my defense is impregnable, and I'm just ferocious. I want his heart! I want to eat his children! Praise be to Allah
@robertmallon18GBR1 blah blah blah tyson fans always going on about his 'prime' funny how an OLDER holyfield beat tyson. If tyson was so great he would have come back and been the world champ again like Ali did. But hey Ali was the greatest.
Tyson supporters make me laugh. they think that a great fighter is some one who ends fights in the 1st round LOL. it has never occurred to them that maybe the opponent is shit! Watching mike ko men in 1 round is like a watching a man fucking a woman and ejaculating in 10 seconds and then watching him feel pleased with himself. What a joke!
@desouzch1 Boris Becker won wimbeldon at 17! that does not make him the greatest tennis player ever. Name some of these awesome fighters who struck fear in the division that mike destroyed. None of the men he fought were of the calibre of joe frazier, ali, foreman, shavers, liston, lyle, joe louis, rocky marciarno. Mike beat mediocre fighters, and lost to those who had true ambition.
@MiamiRSVP LENNOX LEWIS IS OLDER THAN TYSON, TYSONS PROBLEM IS THAT HE DOES NOT LIKE A REAL FIGHT- HE LIKES QUICK KO`S, HE IS A THE GREATEST RING BULLY EVER, BUT NOT THE GREATEST FIGHTER
lennox lewis born 2 september 1965. You need to check the first before you mouth off. LOL. tyson is only good at knocking out intimidated fighters. Remember this or probably you dont know- while in his "prime", there were a few fighters who mike did not knock out even though he won. tony tucker was a prime example. He is a classic example of a man who took mikes shots at shook his head. And of course there is buster who mike did not fight again.
@chaka943 mate, buster douglas is prime example...douglas went into that fight with more heart and determination than a prime tyson.. tyson realised douglas was not scared and was for real, and tyson was stuck thinking, i cant knock him out, don don DON what can i do i cant knock him out,if you went 6-7 rounds with tyson, you pretty much had him sussed out and beat.. infact has tyson ever gone 12 rounds...? mike was great at knocking out mediocre opponents, just go watch his early fights,
I was never a fan of LL but he was certainly the best of his era so respect is due. Tyson at his best was streets ahead of anyone else who was around at the time and had these fighters met at the height of there powers I don't think Lennox could have lived with Tyson whose most difficult opponent, it seems to me, was his own troubled soul!!
it still took lennox lewis 8 rounds to drop a shot over the hill Tyson, & to how you how much of a bullshit fight this was nobody was even suprised Tyson lost, lewis could of fought Tyson back in the late 80's or early 90's but he didn't cause he was a bitch.
MIKE FOUGHT AND KO`D A LOT OF SHIT FIGHTERS! HW`S IN THE 70`S WERE KILLERS IN COMPARISON TO THE SHIT HE FOUGHT EG DAN HALPERN, CARL WILLIAMS, ALEX STEWART LOU SAVERSE, THESE MEN CANNOT MAKE YOU A GREAT FIGHTER AS THEY ARE NOT GREAT
I ACCEPT THAT MIKE DOES NOT LOOK HIMSELF BUT I BELIEVE HE WAS NEVER THE SAME AFTER THE DOUGLAS FIGHT. SADLY HIS QUICK AND EASY VICTORIES NEVER CONDITIONED HIM TO BE A REAL TOUGH GUY TO COMPLIMENT HIS PUNCH POWER. AFTER THE BUSTER FIGHT HE REALISED BOXING WAS WAR, NOT A ONE ROUND KO
That was a total bullshit comment if you look at the facts. But by all means, keep the stereotypes going... it's definitely constructive. [end sarcasm]
It saddends me to hear Tyson moan 03;12 ahh ahhh he is unfit and basically throwing Street Brawling punches, should Lennox read this he knows what im talking about...Tyson fought for the money..Lewis just had to have Tyson to complete his Legacy...plain and simple!..."I love these guys as equally i love boxing!''..I have nothing negative to say except...MAD RESPECT>>>PEACE!!
mike tyson on his best time under Cus D’Amato and later under the catskill connection would beat the crap out of lennox lewis....mike tyson had the talent to be on the same level like muhammad ali but he throw his talent away because of idiots like don king .......
@Hellas4Live don king did not throw mike tyson's punches for him ... from your point of view, the one that should be praised is cus d'amato, not mike tyson.
There was no fear Tyson would need to submit to a drug test for Friday night's bout. Illegal narcotics and steroids conveniently aren't banned substances according to the Kentucky Athletic Commission.
Another time he was asked about the Lewis fight, Tyson replied: "Man, I don't know what I was on. Maybe I just smoked too much weed. There's no doubt I've been a monster."
Okey if Lennox did better in the 90's. Actually the last year in the 90's when he had all 3 major belts. But Lennox is NOT better becouse of that, come on be real.
And in 2002 when Lennox beat Mike. Thats 6 Years after Mike lost his motivation and was a drug addict. If Mike wasnt gone 4 years he would have ruled the 90's like he did the 80's too.
Becouse when he did comeback after prison he took back WBA & WBC like it was nothing,
imagine if he trained like usually those 4 years instead!!
It took 7 years for Lennox to have all major belts from his first. It took ONE year for Mike!! Plus thats 12 years after Mike took them!!
Its like saying me and my friend start boxing att same age, i ruled 10 years and he had nothing on me. Then saying my friend is better then me after 10 years when ive already ruled and done mine.
Put Lennox against Mike when he was best, and Mike would have eat his ass and shit him out in Britain.
@Perchane See, the main reason for that is that America is the major league of Boxing and if your based there you'll get a lot of opportunities where as British is a minor league and less opportunities emerge. Tyson was based out of an American Gym with the most powerful boxing promoter in the world behind him - Don King - Lewis was based out of a British Gym with only a regional promoter behind hm - Frank Malony - its no wonder Tyson took less time to get to the top.
lewis got flopped off mcall in his prime, that was in 94 wen tyson was stil inside, imagine a non convicted, 94 tyson vs lewis, he deffo wins, not to mention if it had been in the 80's, fuk me.
@gregm20072007 Lewis prime wasn't against McCall. Lewis was full of holes in 1994 when McCall beat him, far from the finished article. Lewis Prime was 1996-2000 after a couple of years with Emanuel Steward.
It's like when Mike Tyson fought Lennox Lewis. Tyson had to take some medication to fight Lewis. You're the champion, and you're going to make sure that somebody takes their medication.
Lewis said. Today's Tyson is no longer the Tyson of legend after being beaten twice by Evander Holyfield. And after the second Holyfield bout - a low point in sports history - things really went downhill.
Lewis said. "I understand that he still has a lot of fans out there, but they're fans that look at him when Tyson was Tyson. The Tyson of today is a different man."
Mike Tyson - Before we encroach this subject, lets rewind to 1998 and a statement by Emmanuel Steward about the quality of Lennox Lewis's opposition-"Lionel Butler was on drugs, Oliver McCall was in and out of rehabilitation with drug and booze problems and Tommy Morrison went on drinking binges before the fight,"
Mike Tyson admitted he was ALSO a washed up drug addict in 2002!
Razor Ruddock - a walking Asthma Attack who had already been ko'd by a bum called David Jaco who retired with a 24-25-1 (18 by KO) record, who had never held any version of a world title and no relevant wins
Frank Bruno - 1993- Famous for stamina problems and a caramel chin (James Smith '84 + Witherspoon '86) washed up Bruno had fought just 4 times (against bums) since a KO to Tyson in '89
you missed the point.... mike was a better fighter at a young age. Lewis was a better fighter at an older age. I know so hard to understand. Mike would have tore lewis a new butt hole in his prime. everyone knows it.
mike doesn't have it in this fight, watch his old fights then watch this one. Doesn't even seem like the same fighter. He was better as a young fighter he sucks now. Still i'd say he was the best boxer of all time next to ali.
Razor Ruddock - a decent win in round 2. But this guy never held a title. Add to that the fact that Ruddock had already been knocked out by a bum with a glass jaw called David Jaco and later an HIV+ Tommy Morrison in 1995
Oliver McCall - Oliver was 29 years old and stopped Lennox easily in the 2nd round.
Tommy Morrison - Tommy was 25 years old, and and HIV+ so this is Lennox's best win?
Lennox was a wonderful fighter, A great specialist as he said himself in this interview. Mike was well past his best at stage. Take nothing away from lennox's legacy. A Mike Tyson from 86-90 beats lennox lewis. A top 3 of all time in those years. Prison killed him, Don King killed him.

Lewis: Good but not great
has yet to meet another ring legend at the peak of his power - the win against Holyfield came too late in both men's careers.
Lower tier
Five years after he retires, however, his name will fall from boxing's highest order.
Lewis will join a lower tier of very good champions who were never truly great.

Q+A: George Foreman
With the June 8 Mike Tyson-Lennox Lewis bout coming up, we grilled HBO boxing announcer George Foreman
By Richard Deitsch
SI: What's your pick for Tyson-Lewis?
Foreman: If Tyson comes in at 222 pounds or under, I give him the edge. I'll take him in a knockout. Three rounds.
SI: In your prime how quickly do you knock out Lewis?
Foreman: Two rounds.
JoeCalzagheTheCoward 1 month ago
WTF, who are the commentators? I hear George Foreman and Larry Merchant, but the commentators were Jim Lampley and Bobby Cyzz. WTF happened to Lamply and Cyzz???

"I was gonna rip his heart out. I'm the best ever. I'm the most brutal and vicious, the most ruthless champion there has ever been. No one can stop me. Lennox is a conqueror? No! He's no Alexander! I'm Alexander! I'm the best ever. I'm Sonny Liston. I'm Jack Dempsey. There's never been anyone like me. I'm from their cloth. There is no one who can match me. My style is impetuous, my defense is impregnable, and I'm just ferocious. I want his heart! I want to eat his children! Praise be to Allah

@dogspissonrugs mike tyson born 30th june 1966
lennox lewis born 2 september 1965. And of course there is buster who mike did not fight again.
chaka943 2 months ago
@chaka943 mate, buster douglas is prime example...douglas went into that fight with more heart and determination than a prime tyson.. tyson realised douglas was not scared and was for real, and tyson was stuck thinking, i cant knock him out, don don DON what can i do i cant knock him out,if you went 6-7 rounds with tyson, you pretty much had him sussed out and beat.. infact has tyson ever gone 12 rounds...? mike was great at knocking out mediocre opponents, just go watch his early fights,

chaka943 2 months ago
I ACCEPT THAT MIKE DOES NOT LOOK HIMSELF BUT I BELIEVE HE WAS NEVER THE SAME AFTER THE DOUGLAS FIGHT. SADLY HIS QUICK AND EASY VICTORIES NEVER CONDITIONED HIM TO BE A REAL TOUGH GUY TO COMPLIMENT HIS PUNCH POWER. AFTER THE BUSTER FIGHT HE REALISED BOXING WAS WAR, NOT A ONE ROUND KO

Mike Tyson's Marijuana Use May Have Been A Factor
| August 1, 2004 | Tim Graham 07:10:52 BST

Perchane 2 months ago
@Perchane Agreev Tyson had lost his shine here . Slow and lacked the killer aggression seen in the 80s. Awesome boxer in his hay-day .
thehitchrules 2 months ago
It took 7 years for Lennox to have all major belts from his first. It took ONE year for Mike!! Plus thats 12 years after Mike took them!!
Its like saying me and my friend start boxing att same age, i ruled 10 years and he had nothing on me. Then saying my friend is better then me after 10 years when ive already ruled and done mine.
Put Lennox against Mike when he was best, and Mike would have eat his ass and shit him out in Britain.
Perchane 2 months ago
@Perchane See, the main reason for that is that America is the major league of Boxing and if your based there you'll get a lot of opportunities where as British is a minor league and less opportunities emerge. Tyson was based out of an American Gym with the most powerful boxing promoter in the world behind him - Don King - Lewis was based out of a British Gym with only a regional promoter behind hm - Frank Malony - its no wonder Tyson took less time to get to the top.

@gregm20072007 Lewis prime wasn't against McCall. Lewis was full of holes in 1994 when McCall beat him, far from the finished article. Lewis Prime was 1996-2000 after a couple of years with Emanuel Steward.

Q&A With Evander Holyfield:
Jan 27, 2010 – 8:42 PM

It's like when Mike Tyson fought Lennox Lewis. Tyson had to take some medication to fight Lewis. You're the champion, and you're going to make sure that somebody takes their medication.

Irritated Lennox Lewis tackles Tyson question
By CLIFTON DOWELL
(November 6, 2000 9:55 p.m. EST
LENNOX LEWIS = COWARD

Lennox "The Vulture" Lewis: career breakdown
Here are Lennox Lewis' most difficult opponents:

Here are Lennox Lewis' most difficult opponents:
Razor Ruddock - a decent win in round 2. But this guy never held a title. Add to that the fact that Ruddock had already been knocked out by a bum with a glass jaw called David Jaco and later an HIV+ Tommy Morrison in 1995
