  • At first you get all excited for a steampunkish/dystopian film....then you watch it and realize it isnt.

  • A real hidden gem, heard about it a while ago and never got round to watching it, glad I did. Underrated, great film.

  • Who knows how the trailer melody name is?

  • great mindfuck movie

  • I have no idea what just went on in that trailer? Let's hope the movie has a better narrative.

  • A great film:)

  • Why oh why didnt they stick the whole film in the meanwhile city, it was much more interesting. Why are film makers afraid of creating a new story for once, instead they spent half the film in the real world, so disapointed!

  • @TheAtomicusBomb because they didn't have enough money, it was pretty low budget

  • Sweet trailer dull film. The twist is guessed after about 10 minutes.

  • A wierd film but worth a watch :)

  • That made no sense.

  • Brilliant film, 9/10. Quite engaging, and I like how it shows how the story lines are interwoven eventually, the main actress is still a bit too much of a Helena Bonham Carter rip off for my liking but still plays the part well.

  • @mrtictac94 Hey, that's Eva Green! A damn good actress in her own right.

  • @ttonyV She is good, but can you see where I'm coming from? Whole thing I was just thinking 'Fight Club'

  • I wish the whole movie was set in Meanwhile City, although the dual-reality/delusion suffered by Preest/David was clever. The end of the movie implied that Meanwhile City was real, e.g., Amelia catching a glimpse of Preest before the explosion and the City rising up in the background, ghostlike, behind the remaining characters at the end of the film like some kind of a kind of coincident although separate reality - and one I would have like to have seen much more of.

    Extraordinary.

  • is it just me or Franlyn look like a cross of Watchmen and V for Vendetta?

  • @monsterfan25 jeez that is exactly what my first thought was..and exactly those two movies...then read your comment haha

  • @monsterfan25 no your right on. i thought same

  • WATCHMEN and DARK CITY come to mind?

  • This is currently on netflix. I plan on watching it sometime...

  • Reminds me of Watchmen mixed with Sin City.

  • Thumbs up for a comic series based on John Preest! He was pretty cool and loved that Gothic world. Very Rorschach esque.

  • @TricksterVision

I would lovvvvvve this as a comic based series

  • @ramtopsman I guess I'll make it happen! To the story board!

  • Such a great movie, really, but I got kinda confused about the ending for some reason.. Was the 'imaginary' world a reflection of our world in a dark way? Why were there so many character involved throughout the movie instead of just David and his dad? I mean I didn't really get relationship between the boy and the suicidal girl. Idk, maybe someone can clear up my mind a bit. Great movie though.

  • @Michaelmop The ending scene was how the stories connected, when David accidently shoots the boy (Milo) instead of his father when in the suicidal girl (Emilia)’s apartment. Milo was left at the alter by his fiancé, and so he imagined seeing his "Childhood sweatheart" to help deal with the stress. She ended up looking like Emilia, and started following her around, because she thought it was her. SHE hated her mother (Raped by her father?)and "committed suicide" every month to spite her mother.

  • A British Rorschach?

  • Wow, forget watching this online, i'm buying it right now, the guy with the white mask, preest I think his name is?? (Sorry if I'm wrong) Reminds me of Rorschach from The Watchmen, which I love because he is dark and he has a beastly sniper

  • bulu rey <3

  • i dont get the trailer.... but i going to watch the movie right now cuz looks so "wow....."

  • The music reminds the one from 28 days later, like remixed

  • Awesome

  • Rorschach? TWilight? Watchmen? Wolfman? ... sigh.. still waiting for something original.... I won't be watching this crap. I am actually finding preaty good stuff in independent films nowadays.

  • @superdodobird1 If you take the time to watch it, I believe you wouldn't regret it. It actually has little to do with the movies you listed. It's a good movie, but that's something you realize only if you watch it until the very end. Keep this in mind, otherwise around half way through you'd feel like hitting the stop button; don't. I'd recommend also checking out its Boards section on IMDBb (after you've seen it), there's a good discussion about it, it's the one with the spoilers warning.

  • The girl looks so much like robin tunney to me.. They could be sisters..

  • looks boring.

  • @VelaToNorma7 anything but boing... trust, its worth sticking this film out!

  • I absolutely love these steampunk - sequences.... btw, the song in the trailer is awesome, does anyone know the name? :D

  • @paralyzedlullaby It's by John Murphey- In a Heartbeat.

  • judging by the style of the music in the trailer id wager it's by the guy from the 28 day/week later

  • @albi2k6 I thought the exact saime thing! John murphy is the musician you mean. By the way: the song you mean is also featured in the very good movie Kick-Ass where he changed the melody a little bit which i first didn't even notice. so, it could very well be that the song in this trailer is also from him and he just changed the main melody a bit

  • I enjoyed the plot very much, but I felt that the film lacked character development.

  • @blahbear313 Oh, and the trailer is very misleading in terms of plot.

  • Visual amazing movie, the storyline is so creative i can't get enough of this movie

  • This movie had an interesting premise, but it ended up being a confused, tangled mess. The visuals of Meanwhile City are stunning, but that's about all that recommends it.

  • i somehow feel so familiar to that type of two wolrd dimention O.O

  • why was it not in belgian cinéma :(

  • i never heard of this movie, wtf ?:/

    will watch today. looks epic.

  • @cpunx I just got it on dvd - i really liked it :)

  • Goddamn it. I try hard. I really, really try hard. I try my goddamn best.

But every time I see Preest I can't stop picturing him as Rorschach.

  • I'm next to watch The Fall, is from Tarsem. Seem to be a great visual experience too, although I'm not sure if it's a fantastic plot like Franklyn.

  • it is absolutely d best n most thought provoking movie ever!!!!!

  • can someone recommand me some other movies that are similar, and good as Franklyn ?

  • Comment removed

  • what an interesting looking movie... perhaps sumthin i been dying to watch in a verrry long time :o

  • @Kimmiko600 You should, it's wonderful, hope you love it.

  • After seeing this movie, I have to buy it. What in incredible and creative movie this is.

  • Money well spent purchasing this film. Really good. So many sub themes and a great cast. @themomentforever, the red head is Eva Green.

  • who is the red head female actress?

  • @themomentforever

    Eva Green

  • I loved this movie! I wish more people would give it a shot. It's on Netflix streaming now!

  • Yeh the dude with the white mask and long brown coat and leather glothes.....hmmm where have I seen him before? Certainly nowhere that has anything to do with Alan Moore, Zack Snyder or Jackie Earl Haley lol. Still tho - this movie looks great!

  • Why is this movie called "Franklyn"?

  • @coisinhasbanais It's the name of the street where the final showdown takes place.

  • @Tribefull Yes, but...I was just hoping it had more to it.

  • @coisinhasbanais Yeah. There probably IS more to it. The director obviously enjoys layered meaning that only he could understand. lol

  • @Tribefull And we, mere mortals, shall be content with what we're given (lol)

  • does anyone know the name of the song that plays in the end credits of the movie? it isn't on the ost.

  • kick ass mask

  • I've seen this film sooo many times now but I never get bored watching it again and again. The soundtrack is mesmerising I've just got the c.d soundtrack and love listening to it in my car or or just before bed. It so relaxing. 10/10 must see film. Just wish I'd seen it on the big screen at the cinema. Just wish my friends were in to these style films.

  • Just picked it up on dvd , cannot wait to see it - it lkooks freakin amazing

  • Please make Franklyn - Never to late [Three Day Grace] MV

  • I just wish that they would stop make a movie that confuse the audiences. This movie is great but to made us though that JP 's City really exist and reveal the truth that it was just a madman's delusion in the end is somehow a killjoy

  • So who was the janitor?

  • Sucks that they showed Preest's face :(

    His voice was so badass.

  • I LOVED this movie! But it's funny cause the whole Jonathan Preest/ Meanwhile City storyline could have worked as it own movie lol. Still great move :)

  • Is this movie low budget or foreign? I thought it was to be released but I guess I didn't check the date... but I found it today in a 2 for 10$ bin. :S

  • I continue to be immensely pissed that almost NO ONE has seen this movie!!!!

  • @Tribefull I know, right? It's a well-scripted, well-constructed film. It's also got a style that's very classical, almost nostalgic. Minimal special effects, with much focus on narrative and character performance. It's a dying breed of motion picture.

  • @Tribefull ive seen it

  • @Tribefull I've been trying to see it... it's not as easy as you might think :/

  • @deaconx Try Netflix. Or if it comes down to it, download a torrent. Movies like this deserve to be watched.

  • @Tribefull The reason I fel I must watch this is because I had a dream which, as crazy as it sounds, felt a LOT like this. So I want to know what that dream is leading me to :)

  • @Tribefull yeah well maybe ill see it, the problem is see with this film is its like seeing Dark City and The Watchmen fused together, so what is this film going to show me new?....

  • @Tribefull can you link something please? (aka a torrent ;)

  • One of my favourite's. I really love how the story tells the 3 different story, and how it's all connected,:)

    A Must see!!

  • @Dorkkki exactly!

  • One of the best movies ive seen, with a really creative concept, but too bad not much people has seen this..

  • Ths Movie has got a lot of Masonry messages, and specially Atheists...

I mean the movie is cool, kind of New VEndetta "V" but its really so naif loooooool...

anyway, the movie wasnt bad if you can forgett the political message :)

  • why does this remind me of watchmen?

  • @shaftboy91 because you've never read Watchmen. This is mostly about internal psychosis Watchmen is about society. but the music for the trailer keeps the mood for it about the same.

  • The hing what annoys me the most about this trailer is the two highest rated comments scarapote's attempt of spelling 'psychology' wrong and zackinsanity obvious statement about masked (fictional) vigilantes 9 this is to no offense two it just generally annoys me.

    great trailer !

  • @bibbybou dude, that IS how u spell psychology, however "thing" has a "T" at the front! Also, learnt some basic grammar if u r going 2 try sounding intellegent, or just say nothing at all!

  • @bibbybou That is how you spell psychology and dont hate on him just because you didnt like what he had to say. Lighten up.

  • its a great movie

  • :D looks awesome!!!!!!!!

  • anyone know the song of trailer?

  • @Laurelion666

it's "in the house in a hearbeat" by john murphy

at least the song in the last bit of trailer is

  • 0:55

    someone signed in

  • I love this movie, and trailer is awsome, but the trailer seems to sugest a compleatly diferint story than the movie

  • Dude the trailer is awesome the movie isn't.

  • @bizdabuzanemanja probably cause you have no taste

  • ryan phillipe is a great actor

  • whats the soundtrack that comes in at the end?

  • @sammyboy27th

"in the house in a heartbeat" by john murphy

  • @AuroraGuiniverePrice great song - you can download off of iTunes

  • A movie you can't miss for one other reason... it's apsoludely visualy stunning! If you look at it from technical side it's a masterpiece of how to use shadow and light, how to make a great scene with minimal ammount of special effects and make everyscene soak with details, yet be very clear for the viewer. Insanely well made!

  • Great movie, definatly Rorschachish, i would have liked to see more of Meanwhile city, and the main character in Meanwhile city, but great movie otherwise

  • 0:30 Ryan Phillipe?

  • @TheComplexedDreamer

naah, I ain't that sure. It sounds more like a John Murphy music to me... like a remix of "In a heatbeat" as someone already mentioned

  • @TheComplexedDreamer Do you know the name of the one at the begining?

  • What was the music playing? Anyone know?

  • I love the ending, especially the scene of suicidal girl and the heartbroken man. It made me remember something.

  • kind of steampunkish

  • one the best movies to me

  • @UniversalVision, well, I like this movie A LOT; I consider myself an optimist (and a kind of faint of heart too :b), but I find this movie refresing and pretty optimist actually (because of the end, for example) (:

That's another reason lo love it, you can see it in many different ways

(Like everything else, I think :b)

  • this one of the best movies

  • seems interesting

  • This movie was crazy...just finished it. I will say that if you're expecting a crazy thrill ride V for Vendetta meets Watchmen style movie, you'll probably be a little dissapointed. Really It's a fucking mindjob. It's crazy. Watch everyone, and watch everything. Take note of everything.

  • @thedudethatkilledyou Sweet. Those are two of my favorite movies! And did you realize that both of those movies were based off graphic novels by the same writer? xD I bet you probably did but still. I just bought this movie for 5 $ and Im excited!!

  • @ThatCoolGuyNamedMatt Yeah, I own both books, actually...lol. honestly, I didn't think that V for Vendetta was nearly as good as Watchmen (The movies or the books)...but Franklyn was freaking awesome. Where did you find it in stores?

  • @thedudethatkilledyou Haha! Sweeeet! I agree with oyu. Watchmen was in a totally different league but I still liked the idea of V for Vendetta. I found Franklyn in a store that... Well I can really explain it. Theres like a bunch of music and books and movies and video games. Basically a nerd store which I love. Theres a bunch of used movies and I couldnt not buy it because the cover looked so amazing!

  • @ThatCoolGuyNamedMatt awesome. I love those stores, like Lonestar Comics, Newbury Comics...They have the movies and cds that stores like Best Buy, Wal-Mart (A given) and Target (Also a given) Don't. The only problem is I'm not driving yet, and the only place of interest close enough to ride my bike to is Best Buy, and right now they're apparently deleting all the good movies out of their stock. What was the store you went to called?

  • OK now Ive GOT to finish watching this!

  • Nice movie great eva

    ...P.S : Religion sucks :-p

  • @eusuntnebun

Are you familiar with Magical Realsim?

  • pretty good movie. Btw Eva Green was excellent as usual (strongest of the cast imo).

  • 1:18? strange

  • I enjoyed the film but the trailer was very misleading. I had read about the film been set in 2 realities n stuff but based on the trailer, me and my mate thought were gonna see a matrx-y sort of thriller set in an awesome looking dystopian future.... which isn't really what we got at all.

The film would have been far more better if it was all set in Meanwhile City, didn't include the father/milo subplots and was just about the very awesome Preest taking down the Individual and his Ministry.

  • Comment removed

  • @eusuntnebun It's okay. But did they changed the plot? I am unaware of the how the production went and it's alotted time. I guess you are not into psychological movies? I deem these types of movies very deep, and it's style experimental and tranquil. I assumed you expected an action movie when you went to Blockbuster and saw this on the shelf? HAHA! I sure did!

Man you replied to me when I made this comment 4 months ago. Come on! There are other people to reply too!

  • Yeah. This isn't In the House--In a Heartbeat. It's not a variation...It's an invisible song. It's like it doesn't even exist...

  • @eusuntnebun

Yeah, man, I love how the word "Sucks" doesn't actually have an apostrophe at the end of it.

  • Okay guys, I looked it up and did some digging, but all I found was that this song is a variation of "In the house--In a heartbeat" by John Murphy from 28 days later. I don't believe that, but the only other thing that I found that involved the music from the trailer says that it's a song called "Death is the road to awe" by Clint Mansell from The Fountain. But that's from the original trailer.

  • the music sounds like it could be out of a horror movie of some kind, the way the haunting creepy piano at the very end is. If I do find out what this song is, I will post what song it is in a comment up here. (But I'm not promising anything, normally I'd have already found it by now with half the effort that I've put into finding this, but this song seems to be set on being hidden.)

  • No, the track isn't from 28 days later, I'm wondering myself what it's from.

  • @thedudethatkilledyou It is the track from 28 Days Later but redone badly :S

  • @theuninspiredpoet Hm. Really? IT's weird cuz I can't find it anywhere except here.

  • @thedudethatkilledyou You just have to listen to the notes and put two and two together. It even climaxes at the right point and then...softer notes. It's probably Because it's a 28 days later spinoff that you won't find it anywhere else but here. That's just my opinion.

  • @glassboxphotogeek1 I guess that makes sense.

  • @thedudethatkilledyou Yup! Just my opinion though after I listened to them next to eachother...

  • Well, the film did have its weak points, but overall I think it is stunning and inspirational, and carries a very potent message. Parts of it felt hamfisted and slow, but honestly I doubt I could have made a better film with 6 million British pounds.

However, with that sort of money and that backdrop, I _might_ be able to made a stunning game . . . heh. Meanwhile City offers so much potential.

  • whats the name of this song?

  • Great movie and I didn't pay for the tickets :DDDD some dude at the theatre gave me the tickets for nothing lol

  • @Myghostandyours It's wonderful how easy it is to sneak into movie theaters. I love it.

  • liked this movie a lot, the twist, the fucking twist, oh my god the twist, at first its like, what the fuck is going on, then bam, smacked in the face with parallels and a twist that slowly exposes itself.

  • song playing at 1;30+ sounds like that UK zombie movie....20something or something like that weeks, days later.

  • is it just me or the film it self felt like two films at same time. like london in nowadays but what the hell is this some kind of futuristic rundown city. it left me confused at first but at the end of film it felt the two parallel worlds was unite has one. but ask this what was the film about in the frist place. all i can say is odd film

  • Think the trailer doesn't show the real plot of the movie. Only shows fighting scenes, which are not the principal facts here. I watched the movie and I think this trailer could have told a bit more about psychology and the complexity of the caracters own worlds and own ways to leave through their trauma.

  • Very enjoyable psychological thriller. Worth seeing.

  • it's a pretty good movie... I love the ending

  • yo fui a ver esta peli solo que para mi gusto esta muy emo jaja pero bueno para pasar el rato esta bien solo que si no le pones atencion te aburres y ni le entiendes

  • If somebody knows, what's the name of this song... please tell me.

  • I like this movie so much? can't understand those who haven't even heard of it. Emilia's great, her pictures inspires, I share her attitudes towards life's shit... who' lost...

  • I like masked vigilante's, like rorchach or V for Vendetta. I think the attitude from franklyn or rorchach or V for Vendetta is kind of political in a way. They're both worried about the world and crime and conspiracies. The masks deliver the mysterious conception.

  • @zackinsanity If you could tell me which comic company Alan Moore currently works with I think id die of shock.

  • Im sorry but I just gave up on this movie half-way through - I just decided to watch the parts with John Priet beating the shit out of guys with a table.

Overall the movie was a fail - it just didn't deliver on any level.

  • @Cypherfall

Agree. Tried watching it 3 times now. Keep pausing to look at... well, anything else.

  • Lol, how can you say the film didn't 'deliver' if you only watched half of it? If you didn't watch any of the second half of the film then nothing would make any sense!

  • i feel like that too when i was watching it but then ... the ending is the best part of the movie.

  • A lot of people would say after see of this film it's holy crap... If you won't like to undrestand, you wouldn't...

  • Looks Rorschachtastic.

    I'll see it.

  • omg the guy from cruel intentions

    i love him

i thought he fell off the face of the earth

    this movie looks really good

i wonder why i have never heard of it

Is it out in the U.S.

either way i know a website that i can watch movies at hahahahah

  • Oh man, just saw this movie and was most impressed. I'll prolly watch it again SOON!
