i figured out if a pin is bent a good way lift it up was using a sowing needle, macinal pencil and a credit card to make sure it was in line with the other pins i had 3 bent pins now i have none :)
my pins on my phenom II 955 BE were bent out of box; 3 on the outside row. and when i tried to drop it in my sabertooth 990fx mobo it didnt fll in all the way and bent some more in the middle. i called AMD and they said they were gonna warranty it since there was only 3-5 bent ones, so well see how that goes. pisses me off tho that it came bent shipped in the first place- i should have looked at it before i tried to install.
well my cpu pentium 4 2.6ghz s478 bent in one corner... there is no pin so i can say that this cpu is s477 not s478 but it still works without one pin. dunno why.
took mine out and bent 4 ROWS of pins on a motherfucking phenom 1055t 6 core :( took 40 mins using a small hook tool and as credit card to realign the 30 odd pins, it works :)
same exact thing just happened to me the heat sink ripped out my cpu i almost started crying my face instantly started sweating balls when i looked at 2 bent pins. with luck i was able to repair them and my child is ok. thank you youtube!
My cpu had bent pins, i fixed them, but every now and again the system will just freeze, doesn't occur more than once in a blue moon and once when it crashed i had task manager open and it said cpu usage was at 100 percent.
i bent 2 pins slightly .... i put them back into place n it went back in ... had to force it in slightly but my monitor says ... "no signal" does this error happen if the CPU is broke?
ok first things first....that camera u have is fucking awsome...so clear quality....1000+ camera right there...second of all that cpu pin was bent....but....you coulda been able to put that thing inthe socket and snaped it in and it woulda straightened itsself out
In some cases the pin could just be a dead pin to start off with... meaning it was of no use to begin with, so whether you had it or not didn't matter. In your case however you were able to prop the pin back into it's proper stance. However if someone were to prop it off the cpu itself accidentally you could still try and insert it and hope that it makes enough contact to actually work.
Yup my phenom II X4 was pulled out of the socket by the heatsink tonight. I just checked and a couple of pins are at an angle and I think one is completely squashed right at the corner of one of the four indentations on the CPU, it is quite difficult to make it out for sure. The only good point is the fact that I took out Scans insurance that covers you if items are damaged during the building process. It is still a pain in the ass as I am building this gaming rig for my son birthday next week!
This must be a common problem with AMD sockets, Because I removed my stock heat sink last night and it pulled my AMD phenom out with it, bent 4 pins, I thought it was done, I manged to get a thin metal tool and manged to fix the problem. I was really annoyed when it happen
i had the EXACT problem you did. i pulled my heatsink off and the cpu came along with it. the socket was locked. i thought my cpu was done, until i fixed it with a flat head screwdriver. i have an Athlon X2 7750 BE
glad you fixed it! i was going to upgrade for a new pc but i see no purpose in doing so right now, something will really have to happen technology wise, i just can't' play games anymore and I don't really care if it takes 20 minutes to render my video, i'm in no rush. They better start getting their asses in gear! I want holographic shit dammit! lol
yeah i thought i needed a new cpu and i was freaking out because i would have to save up like $115 dollars again. i would have to take out the sempron chip from my old pc and use that in the meantime. im thankful i was able to fix it.
Yh, I done the same with my phenom, PC was out for about 2 weeks. Got really flustered. But finally I built up the courage and fixed it using the eye of a small needle and credit card. What a feeling when it booted =)
found some mini screw drivers, btw i have a socket am3 cpu which is compatible with my socket am2+ mobo. ive straightened pins but now it isnt fitting in properly. the bit where arrow is is where the cpu isn't seating in properly. i dont wanna force it in and bend any more pins but i cant figure out why it wont go in fully
look at the cpu from the sides down each row and see if there's any that are still bent. then, slide the tip of the screwdriver down each row to make sure the pins are all straight.
I just spent $170 buying a new mother board to replace my bad one on my old rig. I haven't built a computer in years, so I forgot that when removing the HSF from the CPU, they need to be removed separately. Mine came out all in one piece. Worse yet, I then attempted to stick it in the new motherboard the same way...jamming it in there without releasing the arm. By the time I figured out I had to separate HSF and CPU, I'd bent 5 pins.
i feel your pain, and know exactaly what you mean! I hope you were able to fix yours, it really sucks to see that knowing you spent $xxx amount of money on the damn thing, it was almost an excuse for me to upgrade, but i fixed and it's still working. it's jsut to damn easy to forget about the ehating it up part after being satisfied with a pc after a few years, good luck and hope it works!
Thanks. I too got lucky. (AMD64 3700+ Slot 939) After nearly having my first coronary, I got out my magifying glasses and a very thin knife blade and a bright light. It took me half an hour of very slow work. Finally dropped it in (after separating it from the HSF) the slot using that release-arm this time, and it went right in and I tightened the arm-thing. Running beautifully right now. But, geez, something like that certainly gets your attention!
the other thing i wanted to say was, I made this video because I did read quite a few stories about bent pins but couldn't find any videos. I guess next time I will try to film the actual bending back of the pin, if you look close, you can see i bent the pin too far back the bent it back again and it almost broke off, somehow i just got lucky.

this is why AMD should start using PADS instead of pins on the CPU like they do on the newer AMD server CPUs,

that is the reason why lga package is far more advance design than old fashion pga package.

so wait its SAFE to use a mini screw driver to take the CPU off the mobo? Because when you take off the fan the cpu is a bitch to take out
