I do not think you understand the critical viewpoint. Yes, there are some situations where people made mistakes and cannot be blamed. Joseph Smith saying that he thought people lived on the moon is often used as an argument against the church, but it was his opinion and he did not preach it. The problem is that the LDS religion was racist (and Elohim wanted it that way) for quite a while, then God supposedly changed his mind. This alone is enough for many to hate the LDS religion.

@Ryakki The Bible does not "Promote and Endorse" Slavery. I does detail how Slaves are to be treated. Slavery was common back in Old Testament times...for many reasons. For instance: People were taken to be servants rather than being killed. The only references to Slavery in the Bible are the ones giving strict instructions that required them to be treated fairly and with kindness. What Jesus thought about it: John 13:34 "A new command I give you: Love one another." Not very Racist.
The bible tells the isrelites where and how to procure slaves, from the free peoples of other nations surrounding them and from foreigners who are living in their country, their own neighbors. It explains the proper way to sell your daughter as a sex slave. It tells you that if you put out your servants eye, you have to let him go, but his wife and children are still your property. If you beat your slave to death, as long as he suffers in agony a few days first, it's fine.

There are several reasons for the sudden revelation from God on Blacks priesthood in LDS. One being that President Carter's admin. was threatening to deny their tax exempt status on the grounds of discrimination. Also, LDS was beginning to spread to countries that would demand a percentage of darker church executives such as Brazil. In fact, their reversal preceded them opening a temple in São Paulo, Brazil where their racist policy would have been problematic. Shame on LDS.

All religions are a scam but Mormonism is so transparently a false religion that it boggles the mind why anyone would convert. I can see how you could be born into it and accept it as truth from your parents and elders but to convert as an adult is idiocy. At a certain age reason should prevail and most children do in fact see through the smokescreen but religion kills reason and scares children into thinking they'll be damned forever if they question it.

I knew for a fact that I was never going to investigate the mormons.I looked at every religion and finally opened my mind to the LDS. I'm a member now and I KNOW my Father in Heaven and my Savior Jesus Christ Do you know ANYTHING about the church? I know I didnt when I judged them. I dont agree with the beliefs of other religions but nevertheless I respect them.

And of course I admire the faith of the Catholics and Christians and any other sects I forgot to mention. BLACK PEOPLE CAN BE PART OF THE CHURCH. recently at our general conference a Black man Holding the Priesthood and who we respect and sustain as a leader in the church spoke to all of us. It's true that the Mormon Church has been 'adaptable' for convenience. But the facts are the facts- Mormons believe black skin is the Mark of Cain. To deny it is to deny their own doctrine, the teachings of Joseph Smith, and the BoM. Now either they don't believe their doctrine really came from God and is the unchanging truth, or they've decided to humor the rest of the World and falsify what they really believe to the public. Ya can't have it both ways.

I do not think you understand the critical viewpoint. Yes, there are some situations where people made mistakes and cannot be blamed. Joseph Smith saying that he thought people lived on the moon is often used as an argument against the church, but it was his opinion and he did not preach it. The problem is that the LDS religion was racist (and Elohim wanted it that way) for quite a while, then God supposedly changed his mind. This alone is enough for many to hate the LDS religion.

It's simple, if Mormonism is a true religion and blessed by God, then how can it fundamentally change it's belief about blacks? The president of the church claims he received new revelation for God to change the church's stance on the matter. That right there is admission of being wrong all along. It's also evident he doesn't really understand the church. Trust me, I have an extremelly detailed knowledge about this organization that doesn't come from distant studying... the way he attacks polygamy exposes his true colors and motives. He should have just kept it focused on lds and racism.. I think bill maher and/or christopher hitchens do a much more appropriate job of covering this topic. Look them up as they discuss this and tell me what you think.

I said the man's fury at Mormonism was understandable as well as stating quite clearly that LDS racism is doctrine whereas Christian racism (and it does exist my friend) is disobedience to Jesus as revealed in the Holy Bible. I dunno... bible does talk about god committing genocide in ethiopia and things along that line, and it does promote and endorse slavery... sure it's in the old testament, but Jesus himself (well, the character in the bible anyway) said that not a dot of the law could ever be changed, which means the laws of the old testament held true, and that makes them part of his teachings. So... I'd say Jesus taught racism.

The bible tells the isrelites where and how to procure slaves, from the free peoples of other nations surrounding them and from foreigners who are living in their country, their own neighbors. It explains the proper way to sell your daughter as a sex slave. It tells you that if you put out your servants eye, you have to let him go, but his wife and children are still your property. If you beat your slave to death, as long as he suffers in agony a few days first, it's fine.
