The two breakers were insane .. Del potro did'nt lose a point on his serve, and Fed was way too passive .. But, after Fed failed to serve for the 2nd set, it was almost all Del Potro, the third set was an illusion and some luck .. Fed never recovered from the loss of the 2nd and Del Potro became way better .. such a shame ..

I remember watching this match live, and being really impressed with del potro's movement after the first set. From the beginning, federer was keeping it at potro's backhand, but after the first set, potro started running around everything, and he was doing a damn good job of it!

However, he actually plays very smart tennis, and is quite selective when it comes to which shots he wants to really rip. He'll just grind until he sees a shot he's ready to jump on. I'd say he hits consistently harder than Soderling when he tries to.

yeh but federer is intelligent in more ways than 1...played decent but, yet while he lost, he made a beneficial tactical move, regarding his ranking pts. maybe im wrong, but i think he wants to extend his no1 for a bit more next year, just in case he cant defend RG or wimby next year. even before and after us open he was way ahead in ranking pts. so if win us open next year, he can gain points back to try to at least make things level as much as p'sble to try to hold on to no1 as long as he can.
