@georgeevans18 You appear to be getting two terms mixed up. An o-ring is a rubber seal in the shape of an 'O'. It is a round elastic ring, used for sealing pipe, shafts, etc.. A 'moon clip' or a 'half moon clip' is a small, round metal piece that holds a total of 6 rounds of 45 acp, and was used by the military in revolvers in the early 1900s to hold the rimless 45 acp rounds. The clips provided a way to shoot 45 acp in a revolver chambered for 45 Colt.
@quicklady They are not moon clips, although they work in a similar fashion. They are rubber o-rings. They will not work in a revolver because they make the cylinder to tight to turn. Revolvers that are made to use the clips have a bigger gap on the back side of the cylinder. When the Super Comanche is closed on the o-ring, it is compressed.
wait i dont get it. so you cant shoot a 45 out of a super comanche? but they are made to shoot 45 long and 410 shotgun shells which would mean it can also shoot 45 short
@blueshiftchess Not at all. I have shot hot reloads and 410 reloads with 1 oz of shot, which is the same shot load as a 20 ga and 12 ga. It kicks like a 44 mag with those loads, but the break open action seems to be pretty tough.
@LowKeyLanding idk it sounds a little different. You let out abig *sigh* after i posted that comment i had my first shell that blew up in my face. So the sigh is understandable.
Cool idea - got to be careful I think as the hottest .45 ACP loads peak around 17,000 CUP where .45LC seems to top closer to 14,000. The Macgyver in me says wrap a rubber band around the butt just in case you are stranded without .45LC ammo. :-))
Seriously though I took the .45LC tube out of my range bag. I only ever shoot .410 from mine with the occasinal slug since they are pretty challenging. The end of day game is taking turns at a coke bottle with a slug. Loser buys lunch! :-)
I don't know. I bought mainly for the 410 shotgun capability. When I thought of trying the o-rings I tried it just to see if it would work. I plan on doing some work on the sights, which are loose and probably will not hold. I'll make a video on it sometime in the future. Look on forums on the net. I think there are some ocmments about it.
does the 45acp leve a burn ring in the chamber?the reson i ask is a 22 short over time will do this and you have problems loading a 22lr in.45 would be twice as bad keeping a long colt from going in.then you have problems geting the shell out becuse it grabs from a ruff chamber.has that hapend yet?
I have not shot 45acp in it enough to create a burn ring, so I really can't answer the question. I just wanted to try it to see if it would work. I can see how the problem could develop.
@1861dave , I am not sure if I follow you here. This is an interesting weapon, but is it capable of firing and .45 rounds. without modifications? I am sure the way it is designed running a Brownells cylinder hone in the chamber would keep casing from sticking. I don't think I would try TAP or XTP type ammo without investigating it. Overall this looks like this would be a nice saddlebag or Backpack gun
@LRooster4Prez The chamber in 45-410 guns is a combination of the two rounds. I think that they chamber it using a 45 Colt reamer and then a 410 reamer. The 45 ACP is close to the same diameter of 45 Colt, so it chambers without a problem. But the rimless ACP case does not headspace, so the o-rings hold it like a rim. It is not really practical. None of the 45-410 guns shoot 45 Colt very accurately and the 45 ACP is even less accurate. Pressure capability of the gun far exceeds the rounds.
The only thing I don't know about is the accuracy of moving to a shorter round like the 45 acp. Have you scene any tangible difference in these two cartridges?
I agree. It will probably reduce accuracy even more than shooting a 45 Colt in a 3"-410 length chamber. I have not done any comparisons. I tried this for the fun of it. My interest in the gun is that it is a handgun that shoots shotshells. I have made some brass shotshells using fireformed 3006 cases with o-rings.
The shotshell aspect of the Comanche is the reason I bought it too. I also like your Taurus OSS. I'll have to subscribe with the hope that there will be more vids of it because it is the only one I can find on youtube.
Thanks for saying so. I only get to shoot about once a month, but I'll try to make another OSS video. It's one of my favorites. I'm thinking about getting one in 9mm also.
i thought you just put them in there without anything then i saw about the o-rings ''was about to say good luck getin them out after ya shoot them'' thats why i said that
Surprisingly it extracts the fired 45 acp cases without any problem. The whole point in the experiment was to see if the o-ring would hold the case firmly enough for the firing pin to dent the primer. Apparently, closing the action on the o-ring compresses it enough to hold the case tight.
NEVER NEVER fire a 45 cal bullet in a 410 shotgun. The gun I used is a 45 cal pistol with a chamber that accepts 410 shells. I tried o-rings and square rings, and Durometer 70 and 90 (harder material), and all worked. This probably won't work in any other than a break-open type of gun. A 410 has a .410" bore. Again, NEVER try to fire a 45 cal bullet (.452" diameter) in a 410 shotgun. A 410 slug has a .410" diameter and is a 41 caliber. I'll take a look at your videos.
If you're interested check out my videos. There are only a few but I have a video of my functioning but unfinished homemade .410 shot pistol, a Video of it being shot, a unfinished, but again functioning homemade .22cal. single-shot, open-bolt, blow-back action, and a couple of others.
Cool gun and great idea! What type of O-rings are those just normal rubber ones? Can I use this method to fire .45cal's in my homemade .410cal shot pistol or any .410cal gun? or is this idea strictly limited to certin factory made guns?
Oh yeah, what caliber is a .410 slug anyway? I though it was only .36cal. But obviously its more like .42cal or somthing. I should know this but I've never really looked into it until I saw you vids of the .410cal-.45cal's. W

@vinosd773 yea it has a pretty good rate of twist, ive shot 45 colts and 410 slugs at 30 yards out of it and hit pie plate size targets.

Would .45 auto rim work?

I haven't tried 45 auto rim, but I see no reason why it wouldn't work.
