It was a great angle but it ruined Orndoff's career. He was so over as a face up to this point and once the Hogan feud ran it's course,he was demoted. never got the fire he had before. What never made sense to me was he seemed just as hell bent on destroying the Heenan family as he was jealous of Hogan. So I though he's hate both sides not forgive those guys and join up with them. Maybe to a little kid it made sense as he was now a "bad guy" but not to the more sophisticated fan such as myself.
That was historic, I can still hear the chant "Wonderful Wonderful Wonderful", this and Andre The Giants turns in the WWF will be remembered as some of the best turns in WWF history. Hogans turn in the WCW still is the greatest turn of all.
hogan knew how to sell being EXTREMELY hurt back then....the way he pulsed shacking on the ground was always scary to me back then...he looked really hurt
back then when a good guy went bad....it meant something.....today it means nothing....cause it happens too often......Old school wrestling was alot better than it is today......they were LARGER THAN LIFE.....
It's funny I had the exact opposite reaction. I've always been a huge Heenan fan and Orndorff turning on Hogan was one of the happiest days in pro wrestling history for me
When Hogan would team up with anyone for more than 1 match or a Survivor Series, I always had a bad feeling that they would turn on him. And they did. Mr. Wonderful, Andre, Macho Man, Tugboat, Brutus/Butcher, etc.
I was traumatized about this too.I couldn't wait to get home from visiting relatives one August night in Toronto because I had to see this again to believe it. (didn't have a VCR)
Thank you for posting the TV version. I have the Coliseum video tape version.
I believe this happened in 1986. Ten years later, Hogan would do a heel turn that was more notorious than Orndorff's, when he helped Scott Hall and Kevin Nash form the New World Order (NWO).
Viscous clothesline!! I remember that damn hater Orndorff. My eyes were as big as dinner plates. Holy shite balls what the hell is he doing? No, not the piledriver!! NOOOOOO!!!
The turn was telegraphed the whole way yet it still drew a big reaction and came off well. Orndorff and Hulk would take a back seat to Hulk and Andre but not before they drew about 70,000 at The Big Event in Toronto. Good feud.
now THATS how u turn heel..ive been looking for this video for YEARS AND YEARS..i remember how shocked i was when this happened...no joke..it took me years to get over this lmfao
I don't think Hulk Hogan and ANYONE talk anymore. Just about everybody who has ever wrestled has nothing nice to say about Hulk Hogan. Orndorff said in an interview a while back that he credits Hogan with making wrestling as popular as it is but does not like him. Outside of Brutus Beefcake and Nasty Boy Brian Knobbs, Hogan doesn't have many friends from wrestling once the cameras went off. I reember being sad when this happened, but after this, I cheered everyone who turned on Hogan.
When I saw the "Clothesline that rocked the world" I was so devestated I didn't talk or eat cereal for a week. I was so traumatized, to this day I don't let anyone raise my hand in victory. I snatch my arm away and take a couple steps and raise it myself. It was the beginning of the end of my belief in pro wrestling. Not long after Iron Sheik and Hacksaw were caught smokin a joint together during the time they were feuding. That's when I made my wresting action figures hold lit firecrackers
This turn is probably my second favorite behind Windham turning on Luger to join the Four Horsemen.
Hogan was on the receiving end of a well-deserved piledriver. It was a great moment when Orndorff adopted Hogan's body language, especially when he cupped his hand to his ear so he could enjoy hearing the angry jeers.
Alas, this was at a time when the WWF was phasing out its "old school" formula and shifting towards family entertainment schlock that carried through into the mid-late '90s.
You made good points. It is nice to see knowlegeble fans like you. When the WWF became a Saturday morning cartoon show I no longer watched it. It would have made a better storyline if Mr. Wonderful actually won the belt, however.
Very underrated...the KO on Dusty for Windham to keep the US Belt. Most people forget that...it was in Baltimore right...same night as that Dusty finish in the Luger/Flair title match?
No. It was just as planned as anything else in wrestling. In fact, Orndorff aligned with Hogan again for the first Survivor Series after firing Heenan.

@abc1000001
It was Mike Rotunda and Dan Spivey. Spivey was a Windham lookalike.
