  • An obvious comment on the class structure in the UK. The middle classes do not commit crime, apparantly.

  • SCREECH!

    5*****!

    Jennie.

  • Actually, that bit with the umbrella WOULD make sense in a real-world situation.

  • Wish BBC brought Harry Enfield and Chums back. Hilarious. I love it even though it was mainly before I was born

  • i wonder if the uk government has used this video for the uk self defence laws lol

  • The funny thing is that the way many 'cockneys' or working class Londoners are portrayed circa late 1930s movies right though till the 1940s they sound EXACTLY like the 'burley ruffian' chap in this video.Just watch They Drive by Night 1938 for example. 'Say, chummy wizard weather we're 'aving, Pershing terrible, aint it 'alf" LOL

  • ingenious!!! Love it!

  • I do number 3 to pretty women a lot -__-

  • HUWAKAKAAA.

  • 36 chunky desperados disliked this.

  • i prefer the first one

  • "its a simple phrase to remember: H-A-W-A-K-K"

"Why Mr Cholmondley-Warner, that's an easy phrase to remember because it spells.... Hoowakaka" lol

  • simply sit on the ruffian..until a constable arrives..

  • Mr. Cholmondley-Warner, it spells H-U-W-H-A-K-K, not H-U-W-A-K-K

  • absolute classic sketch

  • that´s what i call the deadly martial art .

  • I'm not usually into British humor but this guy's freaking hilarious.

  • I've seen proper self defence tapes that this puts to shame in terms of intent and practicality lol

  • Hit the blighter with moves learnt during play of the Eton wall game.

This educational film is strictly for those of you from the middle classes and foreigners.

  • Grayson? Dark Knight?

  • *writes this down* I'll make sure to hypnotise anyone who would try to pull such a stunt on me then

  • "Raise your hat in apparent greeting.

With the instinctive deference of his class, the burly fellow will automatically remove his cap and wring it with both hands."

    Works every time....!!

  • HUWAKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

  • Probably the most ingenious of Enfield's sketches, absolutely classic

  • @nina1414 ;-)

That was very kind of you to take the time to advise capokhatpin on the correct usage of pseudo1940s scallywagsterist form of Cockney speech according to the 'arry 'nfield School of Stagecraft.

Only problem with that... capokhatpin hasn't been back in class for 8 months.

    CU someTTime soon.;-)

  • "Evening guvner, frigid weather we're having isn't it not arf!"

  • I'll try the hat thing with the chavs next time I see some. lol.

  • I agree. we should all carry guns so we can kill each other more easily!

  • is that a pisstake or do you agree with the right to carry a firearm?

  • Of course it's a piss take.

  • This picture is simply delightful! One of the most humourous picture shows of all time. Reminds me of when I was a lad. This is just another example of why the English are masters of comedy.

  • "A chunky desperado confronts you with larcenous intent". Brilliant!!

  • What's Adult Swim? This has already been on TV, it was on BBC1 in 1997, it was huge.

  • this should be on Adult Swim

  • Tim and Eric are just lazy comedy any six year old could write that

  • @Cadet

  • would you have the foggiest idea?

  • this would be so much funnier without background laughter

  • Yeah that seemed far too popular in the 90's.

  • no it wouldn't, it makes it so much funnier

  • who the fuck are you talking to?

  • timmyjonson, he said that this would be funnier without the laughter

  • LOL I love how this skit has opened up a deep and frosty international discourse rather than become the site for multiple postings of how funny it bloody well is!

  • seems people like to bitch rather than enjoy the video

  • Agreed, it's fairly amusing. I Just thought it was a funny skit.

  • We all have Open minded and less open minded people in all countries/around the world!, i can see the guys point on USA people, as the country is so vast, and sometimes can seem isolated from rest of the world. We in the UK/Europe just have had a natural advantage with all being close to one another/experiencing different cultures, as well as UKs x Empire common and wealth, which some is a + and some is a - all the same.

  • To an American this clip would be their deluded idea of what Britain is still like.

  • There's no point trying to convince them otherwise, we've already been lumbered with this ridiculously deluded stereotype. But if they want to believe we wander around in dinner suits, speaking 19th century English while we converse with pleasant strangers on our journeys back home to our castles, why not let them?

  • have you ever met an american? or are you just making generalizations based on your own deluded stereotypes? clearly, this clip is satire and i don't have the impression of the british at all.

don't get me wrong, i dislike my fellow americans and their lifestyles as much as anybody, but the "civilized" world (most of europe and asia) is pretty much "american" by definition these days.

  • the impression = that impression

  • Yes I have met an American, and it hasn't changed my opinion at all. Are you saying that we don't have this stereotype? Because it's pretty much a fact. I don't know what the Hell you're getting at with the "civilized" (or civilised as the English-speaking world spells it) thing. Are you trying to say that all countries that aren't Third World are basically American? Because most of the USA are very different from us.

  • most of the countries i spoke of seem like they're following the bad habits of america; materialism and a throw-away society. look at japan, for instance. it's arguable that they are quite different from any other country, yet every individual piece of candy in a bag of candy is wrapped. that kind of wastefulness is what i'm referring to when i say throw-away society. america is all about irreverent consumption of resources and it's a shame to see the rest of the world picking up on that.

  • and basing your opinion of americans based off of one is pretty shallow man. sure, 90% of them may be retarded, but i don't like being associated with stupidity just for having the american nationality.

by the way, stereotypes aside i actually find the 19th century english way of speaking to be eloquent and charming. there's certainly worse stereotypes that exist. be glad you aren't black, asian, or female.

  • Throw-away society? It's almost cocky of you to think that America has caused that. Just because most of humanity has gone to shit, doesn't mean that one country is responsible. We're all doomed, but we might as well share the responsibility rather than let one large capitalist country take all the shit for it. And I wasn't basing my opinions on one American. I just meant that stereotypes are still around because some of them are pretty much spot on. If you dislike your country so much, get out.

  • I'm afraid I can't see eye to eye with you on this matter.

  • HAHAH this is how ppl must of bein mugged in the oldern days :) lol i can imagen it now these days its alot worse verbaly lol

  • It's not actually an old film.

Quite sad though now when you think that if you tried even those on someone who was trying to mug you, these days, it's more likely the mugger will sue you for assault :)P Like that robber who sued that woman coz he broke into her house and cut himself on a knife she left on the kitche work top. xx
