This is a terrible game, but in my opinion not the worst. I can never understand how Laserblast and Kaboom are supposed to be better. Once you have played either of them for 10 seconds, you've seen the entire game. At least E.T. has more than one screen and an ending (I have beaten it, so it is possible).

OK so I've played this for a while on the Stella emulator (it has the best "crt screen effect" to avoid the massive pixels).

How do you actually finish the game? And what are all those changing symbols on top of the screen as you walk around? And F*CK those holes! And Dick tracy.

You know the awkward moment when you sit down some buddies, a few beers, and have riled everyone up about watching a really bad movie that's so bad it's just fun, everyone expects to sit around laughing and drinking. And it's actually just so bad noone laughs for 1,5 hours or makes satirical comments, everyone just suffers in silence not to hurt your feelings..that's what ET 2600 is like.

Haha.. nice :) I will say this is definitely not the worst video game ever. It's possible to win (I've beaten it 3 times, a fact I'm half proud of and half ashamed of). So that gives it a leg up on disasters like Big Rigs. And like you mentioned, the title screen and theme music are impressive for the Atari 2600. It just shows how much potential the game could have had if more time had been put into development and testing.
