I am aware that people like to compare these countries, but now I just don't buy into it - there's so much hate here. When I've actually met Indian people or Chinese people, each person is different and I have met really nice and fun people to be with.
People just like to ride on the coattails of an entire country or race just to make themselves feel better - it is far better to be a better person to those around you than to pretend you have done anything great in life.
We dont care much about the west too because we are beating them at their own game and we will be ahead. We will not stop till we restore the pride of our Mother land and that is ONE UNIFIED INDIA (including Pakistan, Banglades and Tibet). At present we are getting rid of the Muslim extremists. Our primary goal is to become the single largest economy. If we can learn a thing or two from China, why not?
Dont talk about Gandhi or Nehru, because they were the ones who divided India.
Lets put things in perspective. First I am an Indian and I dont hate Chinese (Hell!! I dont need to cause I dont think 'bout them). This comparison is economic and not about Indian or Chinese people or, their culture. Both the countries have great culture. That said, I as an Indian have not forgotten 1962. Most of the Indians too have not and we will wait for our time when we are ahead of China and then claim from them what is rightfully ours.

My boss visited China eight moths ago and ,he discussed about the filthy state of the people of China. Beiging and Sangahi amain cities are clean as our CP of Delhi and Colaba of Mumbai but as you go outscarts its pathetic. Rich and poor live in every country, but in China people are scared to talk about govt policies. Villages are having bad road connections , starvation and deaths are common. Foreigners are not allowed to visit most of the places. Common people are deprived of basic rights.

I am a frequent visitor to China since 1983
on buisness and leisure. I have covered 8 provinces and 25 cities. I still have relatives living in the village in Guangdung province. China is a very large country and obviously there are some places where it is not so clean.
Your boss is exaggerating and people are free to criticise their govt thru the nets and newspaper. Foreigners are definitely allow to visit most places except military bases and restricted areas.

1) Their economy is heavily based on Low tech products and IT outsourcing.
2) Poor civil and social infrastructures, its still very much 3rd world standard.
3) 1960's Military equipments.
4)Heavy influences on cultural and religon freedom.
