  • Is the reason for buying this needle to protect your 78s or just for playback?

  • where did you purchase this?

  • thanks for making this. :D

  • I just put the 78 needle (from Numark) on the player but now it won't download. It plays great but my main reason for getting it was to download all of my 78s to ITunes. The original needle did let me download, and when I removed the 78 needle and put the original back on it still didn't download. Any suggestions? Thanks, Tim

  • @tlt1536 It's nothing to do with the stylus. It must be a coincidental software freakout.

  • Did the needle you use make any of your records sound better? Where did you get the needle from?

  • You think it'll make much of a difference to use that needle to play 33s and 45s?

  • And you did it all with one hand...

  • Cool, I thought you were going to destroy these records like a...fool.

  • what do you mean by "breaks"?

you mean that small crunchy noise at the beginning?

  • One thing i would like to see someone do is play an old verticaly cut record, like a pathe or edison diamond disc record on modern player. Obvioulsy the cartridge would have to be wired differently so it doesn't play out of phase, and the speed would have to be ajusted to get more than the standard 78 rpm. I'm curious about how it would sound.

  • Yes, EXACTLY the same thing happened to me, when I bought a 78 rpm needle for my Numark PT-01 turntable a year ago or so. It is alas very easy to damage the needle while changing it, so it's a thing I rarely do these days.

  • That second song is pretty great! Also, thanks for the video, makes me less nervous about replacing the needle on my PT01.

  • Here's a question. I'm thinking about buying this turntable, and I wanna play LPs, 45s, and 78s. Would it be okay to play 78s with the needle that comes with it?

  • Idk thats what i was wondering. The grooves in 78's are wider and deeper though, so it might not sound right.

  • A tip: Whenever you remove needles like that kind, you push down from the front part, and it comes off less violently

  • Sounds nice!

The reason that the 1st record didn't sound too good is because it's an accoustic record from before 1925. Electrically recorded record from 1925 and later will sound better on a modern phonograph.

  • Well, that too. The camera didn't pick up very well the vibrating noises the needle was making on its first play.

  • AHH!, Don't throw the needle! HAHA :)

    Cool video!
