The mino is better, it's much smaller in size. With that said, the Ultra is good too and the video quality is pretty much the same. The Ultra will save you a few bucks. I'd also suggest you check out the Creative Vado, it's much cheaper. Video is quite as good but it's only $99.

I'm assuming by "saturate" you mean let the battery die completely before you recharge it. That does seem to be the common advice with rechargeable but I think that comes from the days of Ni-cad. Everything uses NIMH now and I don't know if that's as important since they don't have a "memory." None the less, it can't hurt, I'm just too impatient. :)

It DOES NOT have the ability to take photos. Out of 10 I'd give it an 8. It does a great job at taking basic quality videos. It's nice and simple! $180 isn't cheap though and you can find a miniDV cam for $250.
