The difference between states that have legalized abortion and those that havent is that countries where it's legal the mother is more likely to survive. Don't do it! Have your child or at least let someone else adopt. Kids need a stable home and a good example. If they don't turn out to be decent people, chances are you are responsible. I don't understand how you can say, on one hand, that children need a good home, and then on the other attempt to force everyone who gets pregnant, whether fit parents or not, to go through with their pregnancies. If all those women are forced to bear children, they won't end up in good homes at all -- they'll end up wards of the state. How do you know you won't find an adoptive couple, how do you know that they won't be better, how do you know it will be traumatic? Ladies, if you're considering an abortion, be sure to note how the pro-lifers here act. I DID have my baby. I was talked into it by prolifers. But my circumstances weren't good, I was poor and not very stable, and things didn't turn out well. 31 years later, my son is a convicted child molester (He was molested himself while I was hospitalized and couldn't protect him.) So what do the prolifers do? They blame me, and say I wasn't a responsible parent. Well, duh! You just can't win.

No. What I'm trying to say here is this: My gut feeling was that I was in no condition to be a mother... a single mother at that. But I let people talk me out of an abortion. They told me I would feel guilty and depressed, and that they would help me. But things didn't turn out that way. I felt guilty and depressed because I had a child I couldn't properly care for. Listen to your heart, girls! Don't listen to the guilt-trippers!
Then why did you become a single mother? No one forced you to keep your baby, to be the parent that cared for him. The "guilt trip" was not the main point. The point was to save his life so he could make his own choices. You did the right thing by not aborting, but if you felt you weren't fit, why didn't you put him up for adoption? There would have been nothing wrong with simply giving him to people who were better prepared, if you knew you weren't. What would have been wrong with adopting him?

I was young, and people really pressured me. I was in a vulnerable position. But I didn't give him away for adoption because I felt attached to him by the time he was born. I still love him, even though he is a convicted child molester who has ruined at least three lives.
I am glad to hear you still love him. That is a wonderful thing. Still, I think that, because you love him, you should not think that killing him would have been better. It would have saved you, him and the 3 children from a lot of heartache-- but so would have being adopted by another family that was, as you said, better equipped for him. I know some people who the families still allow to see their child often. At any rate, I am very glad to see you still love him. You're both in my thoughts.

@AllLifeIsBeautiful Adoption would probably have been poor choice for me, as the mental health sequelae can be very grave, and I already had mental health issues (although undiagnosed at the time). I'm not so sure that women with mental illnesses should be coerced into giving up babies for adoption.
Here's a question: would you have been happier knowing you had killed your baby, or that you had adopted him out? Ppl always claim adopting would be a mental taxation-- what about terminating? Would you really have felt better? I just don't see how it is better... for anyone. Abortion doesn't erase history or the problem itself, it just stops the child from being born and kills it. If it's closure and relief of mental pressure people want, why not adopt?

Child molestation is a learned behaviour, so even if it wasn't parenting, some outside influence, as well as his own decisions, led him to that path. It doesn't mean you should have killed him before he was born. Nothing works that way.

Most ppl believe human life is special or precious. Pro-lifers believe that the process we know to be human life begins at conception b/c it's from that point on that all the fertilized egg needs to progress with the process of life is nutrition. This need is the same for humans at any stage of life. Sperms and Eggs wouldn't fall in this category b/c they need nutrition Plus one another to do the same. From conception on, nutrition is the only thing needed to continue the process of being human.
Pro-Lifers don't believe human life begins when we need nutrition. Rather, they believe it starts at conception b/c from that point on that's All that is needed. This point is made to draw a connection between the very thing, nutrition, that a young boy/girl needs to develop into a teen. The same could be said of any step from one biological part of human life to another.... except for death obviously, lol.

For me, being pro-life simply means being in favor of little to no abortions in the world. To some of my friends, it means being against abortion outside of rape, incest and health issues. To a Catholic, it might mean that, plus being against the death penalty; And to you, it apparently means preserving life. While I appreciate your definition of what pro-life is, it's not mine.

Sadly people don't realize that LESS THAN 1% of abortions occur because of medical (and I'm using that term as in death to the mother, baby being deformed, etc) reasons, rape, incest... That people are agaisnt abortion because the embryo->foster is voiceless fine, that's a choice. But if you are agaisnt it because it is murder, then you have to support free health care. If the child gets sick without having an insurance it might die = murder? Free education. People with a poor education have more poor work, are often smokers and drink more = early death. The difference between states that have legalized abortion and those that havent is that countries where it's legal the mother is more likely to survive. Where it's illegal women still do it but they are more likely to get an infection with a deadly outcome. Some Amr. researches found a coherence between lower crimerates and legalizing of abortion. Arbortion is murder? Sure if u get the abortion in the 40th week or something else no. I believe the woman can make her own choice the right choice

I don't understand how you can say, on one hand, that children need a good home, and then on the other attempt to force everyone who gets pregnant, whether fit parents or not, to go through with their pregnancies. If all those women are forced to bear children, they won't end up in good homes at all -- they'll end up wards of the state. The abortion rate is far great than the number of couples wanting to adopt.

How do you know you won't find an adoptive couple, how do you know that they won't be better, how do you know it will be traumatic? That's like saying let's kill every person in one category because they could be more inclined to be murderers or rapists. You don't punish someone preemptively for crimes not committed, and you don't kill because the alternative might be difficult. Also, you don't punish a victim for the possible sins of an abuser. You stop and punish the abuse.

But my circumstances weren't good, I was poor and not very stable, and things didn't turn out well. 31 years later, my son is a convicted child molester (He was molested himself while I was hospitalized and couldn't protect him.) So what do the prolifers do? They blame me, and say I wasn't a responsible parent. Well, duh! You just can't win.

Certainly sex is also play, but if people think that's all sex is for-- sorry, have to say it-- that's just stupid. If you define it, sex is for making babies. If you go into social issues, sure-- it's for fun. However, the life-creating aspect of it makes it more than just playtime. Sex leading to unwanted children/pregnancies that have such big effects/impacts on the mothers should prove that play isn't the only thing to consider about sex, otherwise abortion wouldn't even be an issue.

No. What I'm trying to say here is this: My gut feeling was that I was in no condition to be a mother... a single mother at that. But I let people talk me out of an abortion. They told me I would feel guilty and depressed, and that they would help me. But things didn't turn out that way. I felt guilty and depressed because I had a child I couldn't properly care for. Then why did you become a single mother? No one forced you to keep your baby, to be the parent that cared for him. The "guilt trip" was not the main point. The point was to save his life so he could make his own choices. You did the right thing by not aborting, but if you felt you weren't fit, why didn't you put him up for adoption? I was young, and people really pressured me. I was in a vulnerable position. But I didn't give him away for adoption because I felt attached to him by the time he was born. I still love him, even though he is a convicted child molester who has ruined at least three lives.

It would have saved you, him and the 3 children from a lot of heartache-- but so would have being adopted by another family that was, as you said, better equipped for him. @AllLifeIsBeautiful Adoption would probably have been poor choice for me, as the mental health sequelae can be very grave, and I already had mental health issues (although undiagnosed at the time). I'm not so sure that women with mental illnesses should be coerced into giving up babies for adoption.

Child molestation is a learned behaviour, so even if it wasn't parenting, some outside influence, as well as his own decisions, led him to that path. It doesn't mean you should have killed him before he was born. Nothing works that way.
I am so sorry you have had to live with this burden, but at the same time, you did the right thing by not killing him before he had the chance to make his own decisions.

Oh, he was raped when he was 6 years old, while I was hospitalized. The "friend" I left him with turned out to have ulterior motives. But that's the kind of thing that happens when you have a child even though you are unstable and don't have people to help you raise a child. I, personally, regret not having an abortion. Most ppl believe human life is special or precious. Pro-lifers believe that the process we know to be human life begins at conception b/c it's from that point on that all the fertilized egg needs to progress with the process of life is nutrition. This need is the same for humans at any stage of life. Sperms and Eggs wouldn't fall in this category b/c they need nutrition Plus one another to do the same. From conception on, nutrition is the only thing needed to continue the process of being human.

Pro-Lifers don't believe human life begins when we need nutrition. Rather, they believe it starts at conception b/c from that point on that's All that is needed. This point is made to draw a connection between the very thing, nutrition, that a young boy/girl needs to develop into a teen. The same could be said of any step from one biological part of human life to another.... except for death obviously, lol.
To say that pro-lifers don't care for starving people is pretty wild and outlandish.

For me, being pro-life simply means being in favor of little to no abortions in the world. To some of my friends, it means being against abortion outside of rape, incest and health issues. To a Catholic, it might mean that, plus being against the death penalty; And to you, it apparently means preserving life. While I appreciate your definition of what pro-life is, it's not mine.
