i'm pretty sure i read somewhere that tegan wrote this song bc when she lived in this one apartment, the one directly across from her never had their blinds open, and it was weird. i think like the night b4 she moved out, the lady in the other apartment had her blinds open for the first time ever, and she was in a big fight with some person and all upset and it was sad. tegan wrote the song the next day i think.

it's about this old apartment Tegan lived in some time ago, and across her window was the window of her neighbours and they always had the curtain's closed, but on one night they didn't and she saw this couple with the woman crying or somewhat. It was the night before she'd move out and the next day she wrote the song.

i agree! it seems that she totally loses herself in the moment so when she opens her eyes again it almost looks and sounds as if she wants to start crying. it makes her seem really vulnerable for a moment there. the raw emotion is amazing and i admire her for exposing that part of herself to the audience, even just for a moment.
