its is most certainly an audio visual thing... in the legato or adgaio or whatever section at 0:44, hes out of time with his down beat... play with the music... as their is lag on his stick!
im a little confused with this sometimes. Like in the beginning the horns have a measure of upbeats but the audio has them playing on tan dun's downbeats. is the audio/visual off or is this just a "play after the stick" kind of thing?
Absolutely wonderful. It would be such an experience to be able to play this. Quick question for the hornists: Does anyone know for certain if Mr. Tan Dun wanted that gliss from highest on the last note you hear on the recording?
I can't stop watching this video! I love the music, the conductor is AMAZING, and the french horn part is.. interesting. Especially the glisses,oh man! :D
I would DIE to be able to play for a conductor like this. Literally, roll over dead. Amazing the interaction he can get with a camera -- imagine what it's like in real life!!! I wonder also what other pieces the YouTube orchestra will play at its Carnegie Hall premiere. Any guesses?
Does anyone know if this is also the Alto Sax part, or would that be with the English Horns? I'm wondering how the glisses and lower few notes are going to work... I guess I could just be creative...
I hope this is the Alto Sax part, I transposed the entire thing for Saxophone. =) I'm starting all the glisses on a C#3, that seems to be where the horns are starting, and just falling, except at the end, where I bend it wayyy down before hitting the lower note.
Is this a joke?

How come French Horn gets a special conducting video? not fair

All the instruments get their own conducting vid, in which Tan Dun cues their respective 'important' spots.

His interaction and expression is incredible, and that's what makes him an accomplished conductor.

I totally agree. Like when he holds out his hands cupped to describe the sound as round, full, and together.
