You can kiss Stalin's dead ass... He did a lot for USSR: under his rule the agricultural Russia, ruined after the WWI and Civil war, became one of the nuclear superpowers with a developed industry. This broght world to some balance for a while. Ifnot USSR most colonies still would remain colonies of white capitalists and worker class would still live in slums... Gorbachov ruined everyhting and sold his soul to CIA and evil.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Stalin killed more people than Hitler and while he won the war, I don't see how ruining people's lives during the Purges was constructive. What he did int he Gulags he could've done elsewhere, with locals. Moving all those people out of cities to the Gulags was a waste of time better spent building.
The USSR was a mess in the 80s, even without Gorbachov. And I don't see how letting people speak out would ruin the name of Communism.
Whatever... Western democracy also wasn't build saintly, there are thousands of cases when democracy did crimes against humanity as well. And as I said before, you can kiss the dead georgian communist ass, if you don't like him. Its your damn business. For me, he did very right things. It's just a pity that he didn't exterminate Gorbachov's parents in the GULAG system.
2 things: I never said anything about Western Democracies.
And I don't see how Stalin's work contributed to Communism or Socialism. Do you seriously think communism would have work with neighbours selling each other out?
And remember it was the Brits that busted the dams needed for German nukes. Americans and Brits did more against German nukes than USSR. If the USSR wasn't around, Poland would have put up a much harder resistance and the Russian winter would have killed the Germans anyway
Sure the Polish Army was nothing compared to the Germany Army, but as a whole would have put up a harder resistance. And how was Poland suppose to react when they had invaders from both sides?
If Stalin did not sign the Pact, Germany would not have been able to fight as long. Stalin did not need to sign the pact: the Germans offered it first.
If Germany invaded Poland without USSR, USSR would have been more prepared.
Excuse me, have they ever been to the other side? Who bombed the factories?
I have not, but if the guys you have talked to have not been to the other side, then I will take what they say about the other side with salt. The English army was smaller than USSR's, you can't expect the same deaths. The Americans had to deal with the Pacific too, and I don't mean Manchukuo.
If the American and British bombers didn't level the factories, the Soviet army would've faced a heck of a lot more tanks and planes.
Other than school books, I don't read other books about the USSR written by the West. I am not famaliar with Breznyev and I cannot even spell his name right. I don't know Khrushchev either.
I know a bit about Stalin however, and I don't think you will doubt the Purges, the War, his acts. The 5 Year Acts are Constructive. The Purges are not. I don't hate the USSR, but it is my opinion that Stalin ruined Communism early on.
About UK,all they history they working to keep balance in the world.
They even supported German at initial stage to be sure that USSR would be not single powerful contry on continent, because UK has mostly navy forces so they were loooking for "friend" with powerful continental army.
After invasion of Poland, UK just sent few official letters to Germany instead of starting to fight and openning second front.
Are you telling me that Stalin was doing a good thing when he invaded the Eastern half of Poland?
Of course the US attacked only after being attacked. What did you expect? What reason had they to join?
OK. I did not come here to argue for the UK or the US. I just don't find Stalin's acts to be good. If you want to drag this out, then I am out because I didn't come here for that.
Do you think an arrogant madman like Hitler would be sane enough to give his men Russian-winter-protection?
firstly, I am saying that UK, USA, USSR were protecting their national interest.
secondly, real contribution from UK and USA are much smaller than their books now telling us. It is a big mistake to think that USA and UK saved the world. They were worrying ONLY about their national interests.even better, They were worrying only about interest of some group of rich people, bank owners, factory owners and so on.
maybe same like about Hitler "arrogant madman like Hitler"?
Now take deep breath and think.
Hitler was not such mad. it is obviously a person with high level skills of persuasion.
Stalin made some terrible mistakes. But how would you act in his shoes?
Stalin is a well-educated, intelligent manager. I think he was also sensitive person, also suffering from his mistakes, suffering that he sacrificed his son Yakov
Hitler was a little mad, especially at the end. But when he launched Barbarossa, he was too arrogant. He did not give his men anything for Russian winter, tell them they will not back by Christmas. Too arrogant!
Well educated?! This is a first for me. Everyone here agree he had little education. "A thug". I think he did finish primary school, but well-educated as in college? Doubtful. I most certainly would not have done the Purges.
Is that how it is taught where you are from? Well, here, everyone(yes, everyone. This is not my own vision) learned that he was a sort of street thug, and never went to college. While our education may have bias, yours have it too. And the evidence we have agrees with what we know and I am sure you have counterexamples.
Why are we going into Hitler.... What good did he do to your land? The men that served him near the end agree: he has become mad and paranoid.
We know. Everyone i have asked agrees with me. Come here yourself if you want prove.
My stance on Stalin is as it stands. He may have done his work in modernizing USSR. I don't like how he treated life as crap. The war was won, but with so much blood for the USSR. His 5 year plans are excellent, but his forced moving of the people are a major example of mismanagement that starved so many people.
Stalin seems more paranoid to me. He never even posted with his wife. He is a good leader, but I do not think he is a very good manager. Again with the Purges. The moving of people. He created so many disturbances that he had to be a dictator. How is a true Communist society suppose to live with fear?
Russia is harsh and farmers cannot move easily. The people he threw in the Gulags I would've put to building houses and factories. And the Pact should not have been signed.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Well, USSR was a dictatorship, and in those you better improve your science and technologies. USSR was doing fine until Brezhnev. I just thought Stalin did more bad than good.
I must say, I have not hear about USSR scientists coming to the US, only the Germans. When was this?
And I agree that Russians make the best helicopters, but Igor Sikorsky left before Stalin.
Hitler had syphilis. And when he was fine, he sent his men into Russia without proper clothing. Arrogant, then turned mad.
Capitalist society (in the west) does NOT want to admit how much THEY have been changed by socialist ideals since Marx (1840s)..... (UK, France, even USA have all adopted socialist ideals of government taking care of it's citizens - Health Care, Worker's Rights, legal protection of Unionization, AND anti-monopoly laws)......
It's silly to mention Soviet/Communist ideology while not giving it the proper credit for how much it has transformed western society (as you are doing).

MingGuoLi 1 year ago

@tomleeza YOU'RE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! Stalin was a genius!

to MingGuoLi:
Nowadays in china thousand of children are working on factories for food.
If Stalin would not stop Hitler, German poisoned entire world by using nuclear weapons.
TheMainchoice 1 year ago
2 things: I never said anything about Western Democracies.
And I don't see how Stalin's work contributed to Communism or Socialism. Do you seriously think communism would have work with neighbours selling each other out?
And remember it was the Brits that busted the dams needed for German nukes. Americans and Brits did more against German nukes than USSR. If the USSR wasn't around, Poland would have put up a much harder resistance and the Russian winter would have killed the Germans anyway
MingGuoLi 1 year ago
"If the USSR wasn't around, Poland would have put up a much harder resistance "
Do you have any sort of idea how powerful and well-organised was german army?
They simply consumed Poland, the Poland resistance was cut as peice of cheese cake by hot knife.
Did you personally meet anybody who fight in this war?
I did, and number of times I was aking them about level of support from USA and UK.
People told that they not even consider it as proper contirbution.
TheMainchoice 1 year ago
Sure the Polish Army was nothing compared to the Germany Army, but as a whole would have put up a harder resistance. And how was Poland suppose to react when they had invaders from both sides?
If Stalin did not sign the Pact, Germany would not have been able to fight as long. Stalin did not need to sign the pact: the Germans offered it first.
If Germany invaded Poland without USSR, USSR would have been more prepared.
Excuse me, have they ever been to the other side? Who bombed the factories?

"Excuse me, have they ever been to the other side? Who bombed the factories? "
Have you? Maybe you could share your experience?
TheMainchoice 1 year ago
I have not, but if the guys you have talked to have not been to the other side, then I will take what they say about the other side with salt. The English army was smaller than USSR's, you can't expect the same deaths. The Americans had to deal with the Pacific too, and I don't mean Manchukuo.
If the American and British bombers didn't level the factories, the Soviet army would've faced a heck of a lot more tanks and planes.
MingGuoLi 1 year ago
ok, you could doubt what soviet veterans saying-that is ok.
But How could you believe books that were written by american, british or any other who hated USSR during their entire life?
TheMainchoice 1 year ago
Other than school books, I don't read other books about the USSR written by the West. I am not famaliar with Breznyev and I cannot even spell his name right. I don't know Khrushchev either.
I know a bit about Stalin however, and I don't think you will doubt the Purges, the War, his acts. The 5 Year Acts are Constructive. The Purges are not. I don't hate the USSR, but it is my opinion that Stalin ruined Communism early on.
MingGuoLi 1 year ago
@MingGuoLi USSR only get back what invaded Poland brazenly in 1919-1922 years, taking advantage of the weakness of Russia

TheMainchoice 1 year ago

TheMainchoice 1 year ago
3-ly, what do you think about Stalin?
maybe same like about Hitler "arrogant madman like Hitler"?
Now take deep breath and think.
Hitler was not such mad. it is obviously a person with high level skills of persuasion.
Stalin made some terrible mistakes. But how would you act in his shoes?
Stalin is a well-educated, intelligent manager. I think he was also sensitive person, also suffering from his mistakes, suffering that he sacrificed his son Yakov
but Stalin is brilliant manager and leader
TheMainchoice 1 year ago
Hitler was a little mad, especially at the end. But when he launched Barbarossa, he was too arrogant. He did not give his men anything for Russian winter, tell them they will not back by Christmas. Too arrogant!
Well educated?! This is a first for me. Everyone here agree he had little education. "A thug". I think he did finish primary school, but well-educated as in college? Doubtful. I most certainly would not have done the Purges.
MingGuoLi 1 year ago
Did you know that Stalin brilliantly passed entrance exams and finished seminary as A-grade student?
Did you know that he was admitted straight to the second level of college due to his knowledge level.
Did you know that Stalin at age of 17 wrote number of meaningful poems?
He seems "more paranoid" to you because of your own vision only.
Hitler - "mad", maybe you should develop not just "black and white vision"?
saying that "Everyone here agree " is not an argument.
TheMainchoice 1 year ago
Is that how it is taught where you are from? Well, here, everyone(yes, everyone. This is not my own vision) learned that he was a sort of street thug, and never went to college. While our education may have bias, yours have it too. And the evidence we have agrees with what we know and I am sure you have counterexamples.
Why are we going into Hitler.... What good did he do to your land? The men that served him near the end agree: he has become mad and paranoid.
MingGuoLi 1 year ago
I really understand how you think:
Stalin means Gulag and Pact, the conclusion is "He is mad"
Hitler is arrogant and man. You conclusion "He is crazy"
And most important your point that "Everyone here agree"
(by the way you not even asked people, you just think that they would agree)
You need to look at the world and history from different prospective.
TheMainchoice 1 year ago
MingGuoLi 1 year ago
Stalin seems more paranoid to me. He never even posted with his wife. He is a good leader, but I do not think he is a very good manager. Again with the Purges. The moving of people. He created so many disturbances that he had to be a dictator. How is a true Communist society suppose to live with fear?
Russia is harsh and farmers cannot move easily. The people he threw in the Gulags I would've put to building houses and factories. And the Pact should not have been signed.
MingGuoLi 1 year ago
"I do not think he is a very good manager"
Tell me why.
But please don't mention Gulag again.
Think about scientific potential of USSR, about how USSR became supercountry(superpower)
But before, just one more thing even modern American politician realized that USSR was gold age of science.
for that reason they attracted many scientist people from USSR.
Of cause it is not just because of Stalin. But he was a leader at those moment of history.

MingGuoLi 1 year ago
I not able to fill up the massive gaps in your knowledge.
The life is not like a test. when you tick answer-yes or no.
You can not say "Hitler was crazy?" yes or no?
it does not work like that, however it is very easy way to think. not much choice-simple.

However, thanks.
Thanks that I also had to read more about Stalin and discover him as great personality.

Thirldly, after second WW, the world was "divided" between USSR and USA.
Do you seriously think that if UK made significant contribution to the WW they would accept that?
About USA, it is much simpler.
they were staying apart from any sort of battles before they were attacked.
Moreover, number of USA companies were selling fuel and weapons to german forces.

(by the way, in 2003-08 some USA compnies had very good join-venture with Iraq compnies in Africa to produce "raw uran"-strange isn't it?)
it was very serious war and catastrophy,
but UK and USA were worrying about one thing - resist spreading of communism.
The problem that some coutries like to re-write history.
I agree that participation of UK and USA was important but the German forces were stopped and turned back by USSR.
statement that winter would killed germans is stupid.

Very sad that Soviet Union collapsed:
**
Corruption, waste and abuse by Brezhnev damaged Soviet Union badly, by the time Gorbachiev was in power it was too late.
If only USSR had better leaders, it would still exist today.
