I remember sitting outside on a perfect, warm, summer night with a special somebody. And we had this little portable radio. The moon was bright and we could see the big white puffy clouds floating by and the stars. It was just one of those really great magical nights that brought a sense of peace, happiness, and tranquility. And then Ferry Cross The Mersey started to play on the radio and added even more to the magic! This song takes me away to that special place.
"We don't care what your name is boy, we'll never turn you away"
So true, i started to go to Liverpool on my own aged 17 in 81 to follow the reds, used to get off at lime st and go into the Legs o Man pub, i was looked after by the locals there and have never forgotten their hospitality.
Great thing about having older siblings- music like this was not to be played in our home- only country (which I still will not listen to). As my sisters got out of high school & left home, I visited them and listened to this music. Then my older sister got me a transistor radio in 1967 & I would listen to is under my pillow. Cold winter nights were great, could pick up lot of stations (I was in KC). If I could get WLS it was great. WHB in KC was good too. Thanks for sharing!!
the sixies where great, so much fun , great groups. so many to list, 60 great time mods rockers, beatles . now 63, still cry about those days, moved on to country, after living in nevada 20 years. but as gerry says im back to the home i love , gt britain. no place better to lay my hat..
Ditto on this one for the same reasons stated on the "Don't Let the Sun Catch You Crying". Ditto also to Nancy, graphicalnuances. Congrats on your 60. Same for me.
He held his guitar high so he could see what his fingers were doing! By his own admission, he always struggled as a natural guitarist! I can sympathise!
Oh my! I was born in the late fifties...and thrived in the sixties. Such memories of that era coming back to me whenever I hear this song, and the one "Don't Let the Sun Catch You Crying.' Well done, Gerry and the Pacemakers>

@hewhobarksatdogs Yes, A Rickenbacker 12-String With A Jetglo Finish Very Similar To The One That George Harrison Was Playing At About That Time (1964-1965)
@ZigZaggZzHD ..i was 14 when this was on the radio,,the perfect age to soak up the new music that was coming from that little island,,,,england. it was a very innocent time. no one had any idea what was to come from there as all of a sudden..the beatles, the stones, the kinks, the animals, the troggs, the who and...them, started to rock our world. it was incredible...to say the least. the rest is history.

Yes, Music since 1992 is dismal at best! Some rap contains a social message worth hearing, but not the dirty variety of the "genre"...NO ONE can beat the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Animals, The Who, Kinks, Hollies, Herman's Hermits, just to name a few - & all those groups came out in the same year!! Later, I feel Fleetwood Mac represented the best of that '60's sound but incorporated a new sound for the '70's...
This song came out when I was almost 10. My lifelong dream was to visit Liverpool and see the Mersey River. It took 40 more years before that dream came true. It was a great experience to see where my musical idols grew up.

String chart that breaks my heart to this day. The pinnacle of the British Invasion. I wanted to immediatley re-locate to Liverpool.
When will Net-flix get this movie (and Dr. feelgood in "Oil City Confidential' while they're at it?......Great ric 12 string too Gerry...God Keep Freddie...
its a shame music cant simple as this why has it gotten so complicated and confused I just thank got that i lived those years 60's were fantastic for my self and others PEACE
A great song, from a great band. It's nice to see people moving with the muisc and jumping up and down like apes, and banging heads. Bring back the 60's, when songs were from the HEART. not theSHIT(R.A.P.) that isn't even music. LOVE THE 60's MUSIC
I'm with you Ampvega. I'm 60 and have never stopped liking NEW music. You start to get old the moment you get stuck in an era. I still love Gerry and the memories that he brings back but there is some very poetic, and sometimes witty, Rap out there as well.
I'm turning 60 this week, and for some reason, have been visiting these old classic songs...as a musician, I've been learning to play them as well. But...c'mon...there's some great hip-hop out there; there's great country music too. I believe there's room for everybody, but I tell ya'...those old melodies are timeless.
@Ampvega I agree mate, there is great music from all genres. I'm 25, but I'm a lover of music, so I'll always enjoy some of the golden oldies from time to time.
@Ampvega I agree with about 90% of your comments but in no universe is there one bit of talent in the hip hop or rap world it is all garbage and I'm one that likes almost all kinds of music since the late 50's.
@JJMFB1 But what rap have you heard? Just the mainstream stuff on the radio? As that isn't rap, that is what you call pop music. People like 50 cent and Lil wayne are hip pop, not hip hop. Real rap would never be in the pop charts!
@JJMFB1 Ever heard of The Pharcyde, A Tribe Called Quest, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Common, Jurassic 5, The Roots, etc. thats real hiphop, not the garbage you think is hiphop. If you knew any of it, you wouldn't be calling it that, those are some really talented artists right there. Its a shame 90% of people never get to hear it because they already think they have an idea of what rap/hiphop is and never bother to dig beneath the surface.
@sfogfgokjsogjsdfks they all are loosers and your have no real talent out there so you accept mediocrity, these fools would not even be members of the backup bands, where is beiber when you need some talent
@sfogfgokjsogjsdfks I know crap when I see and smell it,you need a drive-by to get the answer you need,Peace fool.just call beiber he will give you mediocrity.
@sfogfgokjsogjsdfks THEY ALL SUCK,WHERES beiber, you and the rest of fools in this page,if you like real music please stay and listen to real talent, but if you want mediocracy listen to your tribes, the only thing you will remember about your new heroes is when the music stops or they are died, hip hop or hip pop, same name for garbage.
@JJMFB1 I didnt reply to your last comment and a week later you go on another rant at me? Whats wrong with u I cant be bothered to argue with someone who knows so little about the subject. Alot of the hiphop artists I listen to HAVE either stopped making music a long time ago, or are dead. I listen to all genres of music and can identify talent, I dont need someone to tell me what I should and shouldnt listen to. Why do you keep saying wheres bieber? I dont give a fuck about bieber.
@sfogfgokjsogjsdfks I love pulling your chain as you are such a puss,if you know good music when you hear it then you should be a rich record producer, the hip non-artists don't retire they OD or killed in a drive-by,where is tupak {who cares about the spelling} rest in peace like the rest of the losers.I never told you who to like or listen to,I just commended how I feel, take it or continue to waste me time, fool
@JJMFB1 You dont know me, how did you come to the conclusion I am a 'puss'? Probably the same way you came to the conclusion the people I mentioned are garbage, even though you most likely never heard of them or any of their music. Pure ignorance and prejudice.
@sfogfgokjsogjsdfks JMMFBI is a lunatic. He just butt in with my discussion on a BeeGees clip. He is probably an insecure oldie who can't stand up to his wife so he wants to find confrontation in the anonymity of the net. Not only you and me man. I followed his links and see how he provoke fights with other people too. His usual style is to insult and give lectures. He brag about politics and stuff. I think it is his insecure manifestation for his lack of education. He doesn't realize he is dumb
@ambrosiobertodazo I think you hit the nail on the head there. If I ever come across him again, I won't give him the satisfaction by replying to his small minded comments
Money and greed kills everything! It killed music. It sounds too simple, but it's true. Also, television and computers are robbing mankind of imagination and creativity. Todays music solved. Electronic technology has it's benefits, and it's down side. It makes life easier, but then it makes us lazy. When I watch Youtube for hours (although I love to do so), I do not leave feeling inspired, I leave feeling drained. As we advance with electronic technology, we will become mindless robots. i.e. RAP
The great music will last through the generations! I came here after listening to a 12 year old singing Beatles songs. I'm a music journalist, and the best youthful artists today are doing music that reflects the music of previous generations. That is why I teach photography with FILM to younger people and why I hear so many younger people perform music from "our" generation. Even "rap music" has run it's course ... but Pop Music will never die!
@UriahHeep100 No kidding.I'm 61 and it seems like yesterday. We had a rock and roll band in high school and played every Fri. and Sat.Everything from the Letter to Little Ol' Man by Bill Cosby.
Some of you here would be delighted to know that my generation (post 1982) hardly listens to the crap on FM anymore. With the advent of internet radio like Pandora etc. there's better alternatives.
Have a listen to the Telepathic Butterflies. They are from this decade, but you couldn't tell. Beautiful music.
I remember when this song first came out.I still have the 45rpm I bought then of this song!I use to slow dance to this song just like in this video. Those were really great days. You had to have experienced those days to really appreciate it and to see that today kids really have nothing like we did, sorry to say.We had fun then, didn't have to worry about getting stabbed when you went to a dance. This song sounds still sounds great even after all these years. No Lady Goo Goo Ga Gas back then either.
god i love all these old bands well not old just good music like the beatles and these"!!! brian epstien must of worked some magic them days!! where is good ppl like that now??
Rap is sad its a sign of the decline of merica and cultural stupididty, and depravity ! If you dont like my words ---F*ck Yo Hoe ass ! Ba Boo Boo bwa- Ba Boo Boo bwa ah ah ah ah ah !
@anbon i love this music more than the music of today. im from the 90's and i also like rap.you dont have the right to say rap is sad, they grew up with that kind of music.if rap was made in the sixties, you probaly liked it too. everyone has his own taste.
Love the little bit extra at the end, so British!

Holdncaulfield 11 months ago
I'm turning 60 this week, and for some reason, have been visiting these old classic songs...as a musician, I've been learning to play them as well. But...c'mon...there's some great hip-hop out there; there's great country music too. I believe there's room for everybody, but I tell ya'...those old melodies are timeless.
Ampvega 11 months ago
@Ampvega I agree mate, there is great music from all genres. I'm 25, but I'm a lover of music, so I'll always enjoy some of the golden oldies from time to time.
Hydro2oo9 11 months ago
@Ampvega I agree with about 90% of your comments but in no universe is there one bit of talent in the hip hop or rap world it is all garbage and I'm one that likes almost all kinds of music since the late 50's.
JJMFB1 11 months ago
@JJMFB1 But what rap have you heard? Just the mainstream stuff on the radio? As that isn't rap, that is what you call pop music. People like 50 cent and Lil wayne are hip pop, not hip hop. Real rap would never be in the pop charts!
Hydro2oo9 11 months ago
@JJMFB1 Ever heard of The Pharcyde, A Tribe Called Quest, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Common, Jurassic 5, The Roots, etc. thats real hiphop, not the garbage you think is hiphop. If you knew any of it, you wouldn't be calling it that, those are some really talented artists right there. Its a shame 90% of people never get to hear it because they already think they have an idea of what rap/hiphop is and never bother to dig beneath the surface.
sfogfgokjsogjsdfks 11 months ago
@sfogfgokjsogjsdfks they all are loosers and your have no real talent out there so you accept mediocrity, these fools would not even be members of the backup bands, where is beiber when you need some talent
JJMFB1 11 months ago
@JJMFB1 listen to yourself, you clearly dont have a clue about them so your opinion is meaningless.

@sfogfgokjsogjsdfks I know crap when I see and smell it,you need a drive-by to get the answer you need,Peace fool.just call beiber he will give you mediocrity.
JJMFB1 11 months ago
@sfogfgokjsogjsdfks THEY ALL SUCK,WHERES beiber, you and the rest of fools in this page,if you like real music please stay and listen to real talent, but if you want mediocracy listen to your tribes, the only thing you will remember about your new heroes is when the music stops or they are died, hip hop or hip pop, same name for garbage.
JJMFB1 10 months ago
@JJMFB1 I didnt reply to your last comment and a week later you go on another rant at me? Whats wrong with u I cant be bothered to argue with someone who knows so little about the subject. Alot of the hiphop artists I listen to HAVE either stopped making music a long time ago, or are dead. I listen to all genres of music and can identify talent, I dont need someone to tell me what I should and shouldnt listen to. Why do you keep saying wheres bieber? I dont give a fuck about bieber.
sfogfgokjsogjsdfks 10 months ago
@sfogfgokjsogjsdfks I love pulling your chain as you are such a puss,if you know good music when you hear it then you should be a rich record producer, the hip non-artists don't retire they OD or killed in a drive-by,where is tupak {who cares about the spelling} rest in peace like the rest of the losers.I never told you who to like or listen to,I just commended how I feel, take it or continue to waste me time, fool
JJMFB1 10 months ago
@JJMFB1 You dont know me, how did you come to the conclusion I am a 'puss'? Probably the same way you came to the conclusion the people I mentioned are garbage, even though you most likely never heard of them or any of their music. Pure ignorance and prejudice.
sfogfgokjsogjsdfks 10 months ago
@sfogfgokjsogjsdfks JMMFBI is a lunatic. He just butt in with my discussion on a BeeGees clip. He is probably an insecure oldie who can't stand up to his wife so he wants to find confrontation in the anonymity of the net. Not only you and me man. I followed his links and see how he provoke fights with other people too. His usual style is to insult and give lectures. He brag about politics and stuff. I think it is his insecure manifestation for his lack of education. He doesn't realize he is dumb

candid video from 1965?
wow, this video is great. no joke.
i hated that i was born into the worst two decades of music thus far, i belong in the 50's.

@anbon i love this music more than the music of today. im from the 90's and i also like rap.you dont have the right to say rap is sad, they grew up with that kind of music.if rap was made in the sixties, you probaly liked it too. everyone has his own taste.
