@peaceinstead It should really be planted before leaves emerge. The plant becomes more affected by transplant shock the longer its allowed to develop.
Under ideal conditions, an avocado seedling would require 7-10 years to flower, probably longer before the plant can hold fruit...assuming that the resulting tree is able to produce fruit at all (or that it would be of a quality to eat).

Some will be absorbed by the avocado but most of the water will just vaporize.
