  • Thanks so much for this video! You did the gas piston for no reason, though. You only need 4 US parts to make a Saiga 922r compliant. I am getting one for Christmas and will be doing this. Nice to see someone do it with limited tools, which is my case as well. Thanks again!

  • man you are awesome, and you did this with limited tools that makes it even better...... can you tell me or can anyone tell me if this conversion be made with a Saiga Ak 74 ??? please get back to me

  • bro, that is an awesome rifle. i have never seen anyone take apart a saiga rifle and make it tacticle. why can't you just by a kalashnicov? i have an ak and a sks but i live in the northwest. so we don't have really strict laws like lets say illinois, where do u live

  • hey rjs3484 i would like to thank you for the videos you put together to help others in the conversion. i my self got a saiga 762x39 and well i used your videos to guide me threw my conversion it went smooth and i thank you for you taking your time in making those very nice videos. keep up your great work and i hope you are enjoying your nice rifle i know am enjoying mines.

  • The stock and pg count as us parts also if they r tapco so u got ur mag (3) fcg(3) stock(1) pistol grip(1) im pretty sure the pg is a 922r part anyways just check out tapcos website. Looks good

  • What did you do about the feed ramp? According to the cross-conn instructions you would need to install the feed ramp to use non-Saiga magazines (doesn't look like a Saiga mag in this vid).

Also, iirc it has 14 parts that qualify for 922(r), of which you need to replace 4 with US made parts. Were your pistol grip and stock not US made? If there were, they should be enough to qualify along with the FCG - you wouldn't need the piston or the magazine floor plate.

  • @draconic45

The feed ramp is to use standard AK magazines, which are cheaper than the Saiga or Surefire magazines.

  • Nice rifle. I know you have to be in spec for 922r, but the only part that is different is the hammer isn't it? Because the trigger group comes pushed back, the hammer is extended?

  • It probably doesnt have the same pitch in person but it sounds wicked cool.

  • She's a beauty! Can't be russian AK's!

  • Nice Saiga Conversion video. Your video helped me complete my own conversion. So, thanks:-) I saved myself a lot of trouble by using a RAM STG trigger guard and I had a dremel to remove rivet heads. Did you ever install a bullet guide so that your SAIGA could accept regular AK mags? I am looking for a video on doing the bullet guide installation. Saiga mags are too much dinero. I decided against reinstalling the bolt-hold open for now because it was a PIA. Thanks again.

  • that sounds freakin sexy.

  • Is there any difference in performance with the US made gaspiston??...Di u just buy it to be in compliance?

  • @MrPettj Just for compliance.

  • @rjs3484 922r is clear on Saigas, 4 US parts to change it to a pistol grip configuration, 5 US parts if you thread the barrel. That's it. Just think about it, Century Arms imports WASR rifles with a US FCG, US pistol grip and US muzzle Break, = 5 US parts. They don't go to the trouble of changing the gas piston because its a pain in the butt to be avoided if at all possible. I've never heard of a point adding system, like a later post suggests? And I've been building AKs from kits for years. :)

  • @MrPettj the Gas Piston will only give you an additional part to be 922r compliant. there shouldn't be any difference in the action and or performance of the rifle. is just that by replacing the gas piston will give you an extra part to be compliant.

  • If that was u in the conversion video, then this person under me should shut there suck... Sweet job, thanks I plan on converting mine this week thanks to ur videos.

  • Does anyone ever actually pull your guns apart and check each piece to see if they have the "required" number of us made parts? I mean who the fuck would know or care if your gun wasn't compliant and why do you guys worry so much about it? Why not just shoot it as you got it I mean who is really going to know?

  • @shazdee dude, Im sure the ATF doesnt give a flying fu*k aobut 922r thats small potatoes for them..but if you commit a crime with a non 922r I bet they could tack a federal charge on to you to give you more "time"..but if youre gonna commit a crime, what do you care about an extra 18 months or so?? Its friggin stupid! Its just to piss off the foregin manufatuers and it gave a minor win to the Libs.

  • @Gloomshadow1 maybe so but remember this, once you get on the governments shit list, you never come off.

  • Thanks for putting the conversion videos together. Great job.

  • this is how Russian guns kick-ass!

  • @Gidenkidenk Damn right!

  • hey bro how did you get the 30rd to fit?

  • NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • what type of stock is that? and about how much was the whole set up?

  • @ballensince88 CAA stock and pistol grip around 200-250

  • Are there such thing as pre-ban saiga 30 round mags? I live in NY so I can only own 10 rounders.

  • Theirs millions of pre-ban AK magazines. They have been mass produced for 40 years before the ban took place.

  • @rjs3484 Did you install a bullet guid on this rifle? If so, how difficult was it?

  • @Warmonger910 Yes. It was fairly easy. I used a kit from dinzag.

  • @Warmonger910 It's not difficult, I put one in my saiga took about 5 minutes. go to dinzagarms they sell the flat & round bulletguide kits for $20. That comes with drill bit, tap, screw & bullet guide.

  • I converted mine to take regular ak mags yesterday. Took about a half hour to install a bullet guide and file the mag catch.

  • cant go wrong with range reports!

  • Sounds like he might be OVER-compliant with the 922r law. Changing the gas piston and using U.S.-made magazines is not necessary for Saiga conversions, if you use a buttstock and a fire control group that are U.S.-made. I'd want to retain the Russian gas piston and use mostly foreign mags. Domestic AK mags tend to be crap.

  • Gas piston is only $8. It doesn't hurt.

Also, Saiga's don't take the original AK magazines unless you modify the rifle or the mags.

US Magazines count as 3 parts though.

  • @jimdigriztn tapco mags are the best mags made right now and they are made in the US.

  • @Lord666Belial

Lord666Belial, the Circle 10 Bulgarian mags are still being made, and they are vastly superior to the Tapco mags. If one wants U.S. mags, then Tapco might be an option.

  • @jimdigriztn I have three circle tens and a circle twenty one and guess what they are crap. Ill take tapco.

  • @Lord666Belial

You must work for Tapco, since no one else would call the Circle 10s crap compared to a Tapco mag...

  • @jimdigriztn Never worked for any firearm company or any company that produces anything for firearms. Never been a spokesperson or offered to be one. My experiance with the THREE circle ten magazines I have is they are all crap. They jam and I have never had a jam with a Tapco magazine for an AK-74.

  • the shot sounded tuff

  • Yeah, it's a stupid law. But in order to make it 922r compliant, you cannot have more than 10 parts imported, off of a list of 20 major parts. This is to prevent people from importing non "sporting" rifles. In it's import configuration, it's a "sporting" rifle, so to make it into a non "sporting" rifle, that is, one which can accept high capacity magazines and has a pistol grip, you have to replace enough parts that there are no more than ten of the parts listed in 922r.

    Its pretty retarded

  • I like at .24-25 seconed his ear plugs fall out :D

  • lmao... just noticed the same thing

if thats the way he normaly inserts them, im sure he is deaf by now!

  • @lexmark136 They are push in ear plugs

  • You have to change parts because... It was imported as a hunting rifle, hunting rifles can be imported without requiring a certain count of US parts. When you put a pistol grip on the rifle it becomes an other than hunting/sport rifle and must have a designated amount of US made parts. Basically changing out the FCG and putting US made butt stock and fore ends will get you the required parts.

  • Comment removed

  • good tutorial....I'm hoping to get mine converted soon. However, I can't seem to get my fore end off the gun. There isn't a screw holding it in place and it wont just slide off. Any ideas how to remove it?

  • I have heard of some people having trouble getting it off the first time. I think the best way is to use a rubber hammer to gently tap it off.

  • ya mine took a little convincing to get off, stuck a flat head screwdriver at the end of it and gave it a couple of gentle taps with a hammer and it popped off.

Nice conversion btw, I just finished mine up I did it full. Last part was threading the barrel, that was a little nerve racking. ;)

  • I had the same problem with mine. I just grabbed it tightly with my left hand, and then struck my wrist with my right hand, and it popped right off.

  • how many u.s parts do you have to have to be compliante?

  • You need at least 4 Parts to be 922R compliant the best way to do this is by buying US Made Magazines (3 Parts) and the other easy way is to buy a US Made Gas Piston which makes 4 parts out of 14 you can change, But those are the easiest. If you want more info Google, "922(r) compliance" every rifle/pistol is different so double check what you find. This info was for the Saiga.

  • But you have to keep in mind that if you go the same route as this guy the parts count gets bumped up to 15 since you added an "evil" feature that was not present on the original configuration (pistol grip). If you were to change out the FSB with a threaded one like I did on my .223 that would bump it up to 16 parts. Luckily though US made pistol grips and muzzle devices are readily available.

Just remember that if you add a feature on the list you add a point to your count.

    Stay legal.

  • what are the specs on the gas piston? and where is a good place to order one?

  • Thanks a million for putting these videos up. They will sure help me when I do my conversion.

  • who do you send the gun to to get the grip put on it.

  • I didn't send it to anyone.

  • watch his previous videos he shows ya how to do it

  • So a box stock rifle would function with a Surefire magazine without any mechanical issues?

That said, would there be any legality issues as well by using a box stock rifle with an American made hicap magazine?

Also, extremely helpful and informative video series.

    5/5

  • The buttstock, gas piston, pistol grip, and trigger group were all US made. Maybe I'm not counting right, but why would you need a US made magazine?

  • The pistol grip is Israeli made and does not count towards compliance.

  • It gives him 7 Legal parts...

  • Bravo...What was your initial investment in the gun? I have seen them new for as low as 300. If they are as good of quality as what I have heard that is a damn good deal!

  • I got mine for $250 6 or 7 months ago.

  • thank you! great video!

  • Really enjoyed the entire documentary. I have really wanted to convert my x39 but just put one of the skeleton stocks on it (and dont know if I can get it off LOL!!) Either way, think I will pick up another x39 and do the conversion with your vids on that one. Thanks again.

  • My Saiga .308 had the skeleton stock, and it came off the same as the sporter stock. The screws were very tight fwiw

  • Thanks for taking the time to document the conversion, the vids are great resource to just see how its done and it inspires confidence to do it yourself. Any plans on mounting optics for the saiga?

  • Thanks. At this point I don't have any plans to mount optics. Maybe in the future.

  • just one question why didnt you put some other handgrips

  • I don't understand your question.

  • like original hand guards in the rifle that if you were going to replace those for some other ones

  • I might eventually do it but my funds have run out at this point :)

  • oh so how do the saigas run.

  • It is essentially an AK-47

  • lol yeap

  • They have a reputation as being very well built. I haven't had any issues to date.

  • just hope you never do and have fun shooting

  • nice man some shops in PRK dont even carry the saigas in stock.

  • God Damn... I have not attempted a conversion, but you make it look simple. Crude tools, no work shop, the pressure of a camera, also a family in the backround. Simply fantastic!

Keep up the great work and once again, thanks for sharing!
