so a right hemicolectomy done and dusted in 2 and a bit mins. Lol love the speed-ed up film, last time i was scrubbed in for 3 hours or more when i was assisting a surgeon on the same type of operation. but really interesting to see it done on film. its amazing what modern medicine/surgery can achieve.
So the patient couldn't poo because of this obstruction of the colon? What did the poo do, just build up and expand in the colon? Would the colon have eventually exploded, and poo would be everywhere inside this patient?
Jeez, I'm actually very impressed. How much practice, how much research had to be put into this to be able to so quickly locate each part and preform each individual action? Impressive indeed.
@krokodillemedsnabel They might do this surgery for people who have colon problems such as colon cancer, polyps, crohn's disease etc. In this video it's done for cancer, they have opened the patient up, pulled out the large intestine, they have removed the ascending colon and then joined the rest of the large intestine together, like joining two tubes together (now missing the ascending colon since it was removed).
@krokodillemedsnabel Basically this patient has a cancerous mass in his ascending colon...that's the part of the colon on the right side of your abdomen. The opened up the patient, exposed all the layers of the intestine, identified the anatomy inside, and then they clipped out the entire right side of the colon. after that they connected the rest of the colon with the the small intestines.
i had this done to me when i was 16 for crohns disease, when i woke up i was in so much pain simply because that epidural they gave me didnt work, wasnt allowed eat or drink for 5 days either, and i had lost so much weight. worst time of my life
Whatever doctor did this I would just like to say you have my respect. While I have no idea as to what the purpose of the surgery was for (a growth or blockage?) I find this fascinating.
@ndecker3295 back in the old days they did, sadly. All of our ancestors who had enough money to pay for a surgeon to help, went through major major major pain, most or some died through the process.

WOW DOC! That was incredibly fast and precise cutting! It was as if you had eyes on your finger tips!
I've a question for you. That blockage (cancer?) was pretty thick. Did this patient have a colostomy to by pass that? Wouldn't the patient experience incredible pain from a blockage like that?
What did I just watch 0_o
